It all started a couple months prior when my brake light was on and I could not find a leak or figure out what was going on. Then I noticed the brake fluid was leaking just couldn't find where. We realized it was the master cylinder and replaced that as well as the booster box (where it was leaking. ) that master cylinder was faulty and we had it replaced again. In March I was driving 12 hours back to my hometown for vacation after being told my car was okay and mid trip I lost my brakes getting off the highway. I was able to make it to my town using the little brake I had left since this happened in the middle of the night, in the middle of nowhere. The shop then does my pads, calipers, rotars thinking that is the issue seeing as I've been through 2 master cylinders; that was not the problem it was another faulty master cylinder. That finally was replaced and so far so good. Thankfully nothing happened to me but I could have gotten into a bad accident. I also called Nissan to be reimbursed like the campaign says and was denied. Everything about my situation fits the campaign and seeing as the situation could have been a lot worse I should at least be reimbursed for the repairs.

My brake light on the dashboard lights on and off. I had less than 25k miles on my car. I am reporting this because I have read of numerous complaints re this on the internet but no known recall by Nissan. Apparently this is a known issue and brake fluid is leaking.
My brake light kept coming on while driving. The Nissan dealership service said that I am leaking break fluid from the brake master cylinder. The is in reference to the action #pe11020.

Brake fluid leaking. Brake light turns on intermittently.
Brake problem light came on then went off after the car warmed up. My brakes failed to work, the pedal pushed all the way to the floor. Come to find out the brake fluid has leaked out of the brake master cylinder. The Nissan dealer said he has seen this before on 2007 Altima vehicles. The brake problem light should have stayed on, this is very misleading and very dangerous to have the light go off after a while.
The brake light on my car came on. I took the car into the dealership to check the brakes and was told the master cylinder was leaking and needed to be replaced. The vehicle is a 2007 model. It seemed too new a vehicle to need such a repair. The cost was 638. 95 to repair it. When I picked up the car, and started driving it again after the master cylinder was replaced, the brakes were worse than before. Pedal went all the way to the floor. They had installed the new master cylinder, but the new one wasn't holding pressure, so I had no brakes. All of the brake fluid leaked from my vehicle. The car had to be towed back to the dealership. They had to replace the master cylinder yet again. I looked online and saw that the master cylinders were needing replacement in this make and model quite frequently, but a recall has not yet been issued on the problem. Therefore, I am adding my complaint to the list toward that end.
Brake light started coming on intermittantly. Car was in motion. Brakes were not in use when light came on. Brakes functioned normally. Nissan dealship diagnosed the problem as a leak in the brake master cylinder and that the brake fluid was leaking into the booster assembly. $476. 00 repair. This is definitely a design flaw or inferior workmanship/parts.
Dealer discovered that the master cylinder was leaking brake fluid out the back of the cylinder into the vacuum housing. The leak was not noticeable on the ground or on the motor. Hadn't noticed that the brake pedal was getting lower and lower. There is a small brake light on the dash. The light was on and had been on for some time. It's the same light that comes on when you apply the parking brake. This masked the seriousness of the problem as we thought there was an adjustment needed to the parking brake pedal and instead the master cylinder was leaking.
Brake light came on/off while driving. Took vehicle to shop and was diagnosed as a faulty master brake cylinder. The faulty master brake cylinder was leaking brake fluid internally into the booster. This manufacturing defect should not have occurred with a newer model Altima with under 50,000 miles on it.
The low brake fluid light came on and I found out the brake master cylinder leaks brake fluid into the brake booster. There are no leaks at the calipers, hoses, or any other areas. This is a known issue with the 2007 and 2008 and there is an open investigation for those years NHTSA action number: pe11020, but it does not the include 2009.
I took my car into the dealership because my brakes seemed to malfunction sporadically, and around the same time a brake light indicator came on my dashboard. The dealership diagnosed it as brake fluid leaking from the master cylinder, and said my master cylinder had to be replaced. I saw on the NHTSA website that there is a pending investigation of 07 & 08 Nissan Altimas and a brake cylinder leak, and that the same model year Nissan sentras have already been recalled for that same reason. I wanted to make you aware that I have also experienced this problem, which was a $550 fix.
Brake fluid leaking into master cylinder on 2007 Nissan Altima . Brake warning light comes on in car and brakes acts as if it doesn't want to stop. Took my car to the dealership sutherlin Nissan and they explained it just needed a new master cylinder and there was a leakage. Never mentioned a possible recall or anything. Sad thing is 9 times outta 10 they were most likely aware of the issue and still charged me to diagnose the symptom. Their greed to get paid 467. 00 for the job itself , that they never went into details of what could happen or the dangers of continuing to drive the car, mainly what the car needed. I googled the issue and to my surprise I wasn't the only consumer affected. I never received any notices about this issue and now wants to know why. This is dangerous and deemed unsafe . I'm thankful my instances led me to google this issue because the dealership never mentioned it.
Brake master cylinder leaking fluid - requires topping off every few weeks (2-4 weeks, 200 miles). No loss of pressure as of yet (has not dropped below minimum).
I wish to file a complaint about a brake fluid leak from the master cylinder into the vacuum booster. On this date, the brake warning light turned on. I inspected the master cylinder and noticed that fluid was at the minimum level. I purchased brake fluid and filled the reservoir. When I took the car in for a routine oil change today (January 5, 2012, I told the dealer what I had done. They inspected the car and found the master cylinder was leaking brake fluid into the vacuum booster due to a faulty o-ring. The work was covered by my warranty. However, because it is unusual for a master cylinder to fail with so few miles on the car, I checked on the internet and found that a number of other Altima owners have experienced this problem, and I am concerned that there may be a safety issue brewing. I understand that the NHTSA in may 2011 was planning to investigate similar problems in 2007-08 Altimas. It appears the problem may be in 2009 atimas also.
I had noticed for about a week that the brake light indicator on my dash board kept coming on. On Monday 6/27/2011 I took my car to my local Nissan dealer. There they diagnosed that the braking system's master cylinder and booster assembly had leaked brake fluid making the car unsafe to drive. They replaced with a new brake master cylinder, booster assembly, and other parts. The dealer made the repair and I returned to drive my car away on 6/29/2011. Total cost with parts, labor, and tax was $608. 62 . I have kept the receipt in my records. I had the brake light indicator go off several times from when I purchased it new to when this last incident happened. I"m assuming in the past they just topped off the brake fluid during regularly scheduled maintenance. The brakes had always been very touchy and overly tight to the touch. With the repair the braking system is not as tight but still very responsive. As a result of this slow leak over the years I always noticed that the brake fluid reservoir would be low as well and that did not seem correct for a new car. I purchased this car brand new and I am the only owner. Since the breaking light indicator had been a normal occurrence many times I am surprised that my Nissan technician did not thoroughly inspect the breaking system at some point in the past years. I was out of warranty due to the mileage and paid for the cost out of my personal funds. I am hoping if there is a recall I will be compensated for this repair since I am claiming this as the responsibility of the car manufacturer Nissan and/or any other associated entities. Thank you,.
The master cylinder failed. It leaked fluid onto the brake booster causing the booster to fail. When released, the brake pedal would stay depressed momentarily and then pop up abruptly and then when depressed again the brakes would grab.
The contact owns a 2009 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that the master cylinder was leaking fluid abnormally. The safety warning light started to illuminate and the vehicle was taken to the dealer. After inspecting the failure, they replaced the master cylinder under warranty. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 11,165.
I own a 2008 Nissan Altima that was having brake problems. I had it checked out by a mechanic and he found that the master cylinder had been leaking fluid internally. I would be happy to dicuss the problem with your agency if needed. My name is casey coffin and my # is 601-577-2833.
The contact owns a 2008 Nissan Altima. The contact was driving approximately 5 mph when the brake warning indicator illuminated intermittently on the instrument panel. The failure progressed over time until it occurred whenever the vehicle was in operation. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who stated the master cylinder was leaking brake fluid. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. Currently there was an open investigation associated with NHTSA action number pe11020 (hydraulic: foundation components: master cylinder). The approximate failure mileage was 26,000.
The dashboard warning lamps "dsc off", "slip" and "brake" indicator sporadically were coming on. The warning indications became more frequent. Took it to the dealer, and they said it is the brake master cylinder leaking brake fluid into the vacuum booster. Since the leak is contained in the vehicle, the leak is not apparent on the ground. If brake fluid gets too low, total loss of brakes could result in a crash. The replacement master cylinder is back ordered, and may take weeks to arrive. Internet research shows that the leaking master cylinder is a very common defect. Vehicle only has 30k miles.
Required to replace brake master cylinder due to leakage of fluid. The brakes began not working properly and the bake alert light came on. This is certainly not a component that should malfunction at this low mileage! there are many complaints about this problem on the internet(forums-blogs) and warnings about buying the 08 Altima. Nissan has recalled other models for this problem but the Altima is not included. This is obviously a manufacturing failure and Nissan should be standing back of their product!! brake problems pose a great danger to peoples lives. There may not have been any deaths associated with this problem, but is that what has to happen? in this economy wounding our wallets is harmful. Between the internet and consumer reports Nissan will hopefully pay for not voluntarily stepping up and taking care of their inferior manufacturing in a competitive market.
Brake light on the dash keeps turning on when I accelerate and make sharp turns. Called Nissan and they told me that there is a brake fluid leak that needs to be addressed. The car is 3 years old. After searching the internet I saw that my vehicle is not the only 2007 Altima that has reported this issue in the last two months alone.
06/30/09 (24,999 miles): the brake pedal was pressed to the floor of the car and the car would not start for two-three days before the pedal automatically depressed. The brakes began to squeak and the brake light was on. Nissan dealership replaced front caliper assembly per ntb08-057a and replaced rear pads and hardware per ntb08-047a. 01/21/2011: the brake pedal was pressed to the floor of the car and the car would not start for one day before the pedal automatically depressed. The brakes began to squeak and the brake light was on. 02/17/2012 (69,504 miles): the brakes began to squeak and the brake light was on. Nissan dealership diagnosed that the brake master cylinder was leaking fluid into the brake booster. They found the brake fluid level low, causing the brake light to be illuminated.
