My vehicle was purchased new from fred haas Nissan - tomball, TX on March 5, 2018. The vehicle now has 42,250 miles on it and has developed a braking issue. The master cylinder or brake booster is failing on the car which is causing the vehicle stopping distance to almost double when attempting to make a complete stop. The dealership is unwilling to pay for the repairs due to it being just outside of the 36,000 mile warranty.

Brakes felt as if the emergency brake was on all the time and vehicle would only go in first gear and if I let off the gas the car would come to a halt. Car was towed to dealer for master cylinder changeout. Nissan claims my vehicle id was not a part of a known service bulletin for this vehicle 2007-2012. I think this matter warrants further looking into as my son is the primary driver.

Having trouble suddenly with brakes grabbing and stopping short. Took to dealer and they said it was the brake booster-$700 is this normal for 29000 miles I understand there is a problem with the master cylinder of these cars leaking into the booster, but they said that didn't happen.

This is a first time incident pertaining to my 2013 Nissan Altima sedan. My brake warning lamp (red) illuminated while I was driving at a steady speed of 45 mph. Note. . . Earlier in the morning I did not experience this issue while driving. I pulled over to the side of the road and confirmed that my parking brake pedal was fully released. I turned the engine off and moments later I restarted it. The brake warning lamp stayed illuminated. Knowing that my brakes were performing normally, I continued on my journey and drove home. At that time I checked the vehicles brake master cylinder fluid level. It was slightly below the reservoir's maximum indicator. In addition I checked and confirmed that my rear brake lamps were operating properly. The vehicle was parked for approx. 4 hours and the engine was restarted. The brake warning lamp was no longer illuminated. I then drove the vehicle at night for approximately 5 miles without the problem reoccurring. It is important to note that the daytime temperature was rather high at 94 degrees.

Brakes do not engage when car has been left in cold, usually below freezing. Brakes usually engage after I hit the pedal once, twice hard. Dealership stated master cylinder problem and replaced; now less than two weeks later same thing is occurring however not as cold and not as frequent as during the major cold spell in area. Dealership has it again overnight to see if they can replicate issues. Spent major bucks on master cylinder and am afraid to trust my car's brakes, plus perhaps having to spend more money on a different issue. Have seen others respond to this issue but find no major recalls; only a Nissan service campaign at some point to check brake pads and master cylinder for leakage. I have no idea if dealership ever checked my pads/master cylinder, been going to same location for almost 7 years.

2011 Nissan Altima. Consumer writes in regards to braking system service bulletin. The consumer stated when he received the service campaign and service bulletin, in the mail he was not experiencing any problems. However, in November 2013, the vehicle began to display some of the identifying problems associated with the service campaign. The brake warning light and traction control warning light illuminated. Also, the brakes were squeaking and occasionally made a grinding noise. The dealer inspected the vehicle and validated his complaint and they replaced the master cylinder in accordance with the service bulletin. However, when the consumer left the dealer, the brakes continued to squeak. The consumer took the vehicle to another dealer, for its 45,000 recommended service. He asked the dealer to check the brakes, as they were still grinding and squeaking. An inspection revealed the front brakes were worn to a level of 2mm, which explained the squeaking and grinding. The consumer did not believe, the previous dealer inspected the brakes or falsified the multi-point inspection record. Updated 07/29/14 updated 07/30/14.

Brake warning light comes on and off while driving. Some loss of brake fluid with no apparent leaks. Suspect master cylinder leaking into vacuum booster, just as many other Altima owners are experiencing. Vehicle is out of warranty now, and I don't want to buy another master cylinder out-of-pocket from Nissan since I have read on the net where others have had replacement unit failures (such as NHTSA action number pe11020). What am I to do? Nissan should pay for a permanent repair for this obvious product defect!.

I had noticed months ago that the brake performance was not up to par, but as conditions were generally dry, it was not a problem. I did have new rotors and pads installed at 50,000 miles, but had no better brake performance. As soon as we experienced snowy/icy conditions it became a problem as the vehicle would then slide with the brakes locked, even though snow tires were installed. I then determined that the rear brakes were not working at all, and the hash marks from manufactures grinding on the new rear discs was virtually untouched. The rear brakes were bled, and there was no evidence of air in the line which pointed to a problem upstream. With the rear of the car raised and the brake pedal fully depressed, the rear wheels could still be turned by hand. There is evidence that the master cylinder is weeping at the booster.
Went to start vehicle and it did not start. Had to have it towed to dealership for $90. Was told it was not covered under warrenty and my car was out of warranty by 2 months. Advised to call consumer affairs. Waited 13 days with repeated phone calls just to be told they will not warranty the repair with no written explanation. Repair cost $757 and is only warranteed for 12,000 miles. Was told repair would take 3 days but they had my car for 21 days because the part was on back order. By the way, my car was also in for 2 recall issues: head gasket and master brake cylindar. Pretty big issues! I was also told by service manager that if I had all my service done thru them instead of outside source they would have covered the steering lock issue. Sounds a little fishy to me. They need to recall this problem!!! or at least have a manual over ride.
Purchased my new Altima s2. 5 convience pkg plus 1st of Aug 2012. I bought new car to be safe this was my 3rd Altima. Mon. Dec 31, 2012 @ 11;15 a. M. I made right turn into home driveway. Brake pedal squeak upon decompression. Found ring of brake fluid on master cylinder resivoir cap. Dealership stated overfilled and wiped brake fluid inspected mc for recall -- no leak. Ring came back after two days. Dealership stated master cylinder kicking fluid back up -- no leak -- mc replaced not due to recall. Master cylinder replaced due to fluid being kicked back up. Brake pedal squeak went away.
I noticed warning lights on dash were going on for brakes but brakes were working. Brought to Nissan dealer for check. I was told master cylinder was leaking into booster and that it had to be changed . Cost $483. . . At 49000 miles this seemed to be too soon for that kind of problem. Dealer knew about it at writeup in service drive through. , but said it was not covered under warranty.
When driving speeds as low as 25 miles per hour, the brakes started to grab. I first noticed that when I depressed the brake, when released, the pedal seemed to stick, as if there were gum on the bottom of my shoe, perhaps sticking to the pedal. I checked the pedal and it was clear. Then I noticed that when driving at slower rates of speed, as I eased on the brake, it seemed to depress again, then the brakes would grab harder. Took it to the dealer, they said it was the brake booster--$700 estimate to fix. I did not have an extended warranty, so I took it to a private mechanic, who evaluated the issue, and came to the same conclusion--brake booster. He showed me that it was busted. He was considerably cheaper, so I had him to fix the brake booster. It fixed the issue that I was feeling in the pedal when stopping, however, the brakes continued to grab, even at slower rates of speed (<25mph). At slower speeds, the brakes grabbed hard enough to throw passengers forward in the vehicle. He contacted Nissan and found that there was a recall for my master cylinder, but only if it was leaking. My master cylinder did not appear to be leaking, but it is quite obvious that it has to be a faulty cylinder. I read several reports of Nissan's master cylinders leaking causing the brake booster to fail. The Nissan dealership in jonesboro said that they would replace the master cylinder, but the recall is for leaking master cylinders only. My mc is not leaking, and therefore, as it stands right now, it is not covered by the recall.
Master cylinder leak, had to replace master cylinder or it could have lead to a brake failure.
Service brakes, hydraulic-foundation components-master cylinder : after a few days of driving with a brake indicator light coming on, crown Nissan service representative indicated that the master cylinder was leaking into the power booster, lowering the brake fluid in the master cylinder reservoir. Total charges were $684. 55 to repair. This is a 3 year old car with 41,321 highway miles driven lightly. It appears to be a similar situation as the 2007 and 2008 Nissan sentra and although the two models do not share the same parts, the manufacturer is likely to be the same. This should be a factory recall issue.
The day I purchased my vehicle around Dec 2007, the brakes were squeaking. The service department and dealership where I bought the vehicle from told me it was just dust on the brakes and it could be washed off with a pressure washer. This problem has never been solved even when my brake pads had been replaced. I began to have a serious problem with my breaks a few months ago when every time I would push on my break pedal, the break pedal would kick back, car would jerk, and I would have to reapply the break pedal to stop/slow my vehicle. I finally took it to my Nissan dealership/service dept and was told the vehicle's master cylinder had a leak and needed to be replaced. This is a serious problem and an expensive price for something that should be under warranty.

Master cylinder found to be leaking. Warning light was coming on.
My 07 Altima has a braking problem. I push the brakes at any speed and it has a residual pop and jerk. It begins to slow down as normal and then it seems to catch again and it will jerk and become a extreme brake. I took the car to my mechanic and they replaced the pads and turned the rotors initially and bled the lines. That did not fix it. They then recommended that I take it to Nissan and I did and they said it was the brake booster and I had that replaced and they realized that the master cylinder was leaking and they were both replaced but that did not fix the problem. My mechanic can not figure out what it is and it is a definate safety hazard but I have no recourse because I have to get to and from work. He has also contacted Nissan and they told him that is normal for the Altima's. I read that there are other Altima's that have a similar type issues. I just want the issue resolved. I have a discoount on my insurance that involves my good driving and I can not apply that because of the breaking issue. My insurance monitors my driving and base my discount on my driving performance.
There has been no incident, but I have a concern of future failure. My car is losing brake fluid, as I've had to refill the reservoir periodically when the dash light illuminates. Today, the dealer confirmed that there are no external leaks in the brake system, so it is likely inside the master cylinder. First occurrence of low brake fluid was at about 75000 miles. I am concerned that the corrosive fluid may be causing damage that will lead to a sudden failure in the braking system. I know there is an ongoing investigation for this problem, so I wanted to register my car as having the problem.
Was advised at the dealer that there was a leakage and that I could lose my brakes if I didnt change the master cylinder, the master cylinder was replaced, and I noticed a big difference in the brakes after this problem getting repaired.
I bought this vehicle brand new and it has been properly maintained. While driving down the road the vdc off and slip light came on. After turning the car off, and restarting the light would go out. This happened twice so I made an appointment with Nissan, while driving there it came on again. The stated that my master cylinder was bad and needed to replaced, the cost was $620. 00. This car was recently inspected and has not even needed new brake pads yet. I also have a problem with the tire pressure light coming on even when tires have correct pressure. I had to pay $ 50. 00 to have it reset so it would not stay on. After doing some research this seems like a common problem, that Nissan is doing nothing about.
Master cylinder cracked and leaking. Apparently, we're not the first to have a faulty master cylinder in this vehicle.
Problem: master cylinder leaking into the brake booster. I was fortunate to have it discovered during a routine oil change appointment prior to any brake problems on the road. When I got home, I did an internet search to see if there was any information on this issue. In doing so, I discovered that the NHTSA had received several complaints and was investigating it. Also, there had been a recall of 2007 Nissan sentras due to the same component. This is a safety concern as well as a costly repair job so please add my complaint to your file. Thanks.
The "brake" light on my 2007 Altima had been coming on briefly then going off again for extended periods for about three or four months. I had the car at the dealership for a transmission issue at 40,000 miles and mentioned the "brake" light issue as an aside. Dealer then inspected and said there was an internal leak inside of the brake master cylinder and that it would need to be replaced at a cost of $460. 00 I agreed to the replacement because dealer said that brake failure could occur if not replaced. My research indicated that others were having a similar issue with the faulty brake master cylinder with this make and model.
My break light has been going on and off for a couple of years now on my 2007 Nissan Altima. I have the car 3 years now and the dealership addressed the issue by resetting the alarm and topping off the brake fluid. Now, they tell me that I need to pay $560 to replace the master cylinder brake and if I don't it will fail and I could be involved in a fatal crash depening on where I am at when it happens. Of course my car is just out of warranty. I see many complaints on this and the Nissan sentra was recalled. Why not th Nissan Altima. It's almost like they are gambling with our lives and taking care of the situation only after the warranty has run out. Toyota apparently was not the only one with a brake issue!!.
"brake" indicator light began coming on intermittently while driving. Took the car in for service, found out the brake master cylinder is leaking and needs replaced. Vehicle is a 2008 Nissan Altima and only has 41,000 miles on it. Vehicle was recently in for maintenance service in December 2010, no indication of problem was given following inspection.
"brake" light on dash comes on and goes back off occasionally. Through research of other Altima owners online, found a common issue of a leaking master cylinder. There is a recall for 2. 0l sentras with a leaking master cylinder, but nothing for the 2007 Altima, for a problem which is common to many people, often around or after the warranty period has expired.
1. "brake" light came on instrument panel. 2. Light first came on about one month ago and has gone on and off since then. Brakes will sometimes lurch and almost feel like I have no brakes. I have had no wrecks yet but have had some close calls since it feels like I cannot stop at first. 3. The Nissan dealership said that the master solenoid or master cylinder is leaking and needs to be replaced for almost $500 and that this has been pretty common on Altimas with various mileage. Numerous others have had this same problem that I have seen on the internet.
The contact owns a 2007 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that the passenger side air bag warning light continued to illuminate for approximately six months. In addition, the brake lights would independently illuminate sporadically. The dealer was notified and advised that the master cylinder was leaking into the brake booster. The dealer advised that they were aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 39,000 and the current mileage was 44,984. Updated 01/20/11 updated 03/25/11.
Master cylinder is leaking. Requires topping off to max line every 2-4 weeks or ~200 miles. No pressure loss yet (brake fluid has not dropped below minimum yet). Vehicle had ~27,xxx at time of incident, and currently only has ~28,000 since.
