I purchased a brand new 2003 Nissan. The first time I heard about a recall issue with the 2003 Altima, I took it back to the dealership and they told me there was nothing wrong. The car will sporadically not start. I have had to replace the tires early on, the plugs were also replaced because it was misfiring, the brakes were squeaky at about 20,000 miles, the ac and the heater did not work (at about 30,000 miles and we had to replace them), water sloshing sounds, and had to replace the rooter. At about 55,000 miles the car started stopping sporadically. I took it to the dealership and they claimed they had fixed it. On my daughter's birthday, (3 months later) the car stalled on us on the road and she missed her own 3rd birthday party. I took it back to the dealership and they said it was the battery (less than 3 years from the time it was replaced). 2 weeks before christmas, I was on the road with my 11 month old infant, making a left turn at a busy intersection and the car just stopped!!! the driver behind me was just inches away from rear-ending me with my infant in the back seat facing back. I called Nissan headquarter and told them what happened. I explained to them that I fear for the safety of my 2 young children and myself in the car. I explained to them that we drive on one of the busiest freeway in the country (CA ? 405). My children's lives are in danger each time I drive them in this car. I requested a replacement car from Nissan and was told that they could not do that. This vehicle is my main means of transportation. I am very frightened about driving this car. I fear being killed with my children in this car; this car is a death trap just waiting to happen. Why has Nissan refused to take responsibility and do something to prevent someone from being killed in their poorly built-malfunctioning vehicle?.

The 2006 Nissan Altima, both 2. 5e & 3. 5e have a significant design flaw regarding the brake pedal. The brake pedal is soft & allows the driver to simultaneously depress both pedals! my niece had a nasty accident due to this and I myself almost did. This problem needs to be addressed immediately.

: the contact stated while driving 15 mph on normal residential road conditions the brakes were applied and the vehicle skidded crashing into a mailbox. A police report was processed at the scene of the accident. Prior to the accident, the vehicle had incidences of skidding on various occasions.
I was driving about 10-15 mph. I was approaching a stop sign and I tried to apply the brakes. My brakes and steering wheel locked up and my car swerved to the left and hit a parked vehicle. My car was towed to the dealer and still remains there.

The contact stated the brakes locked in cold weather. The dealer informed the contact they could not find the cause of the problem. The manufacturer has not been contacted. The contact was concerned it could happen at any speed, even though it has only happened at speeds under 40 mph.
Driver applied the brakes and the pedal went to the floor, and steering column locked up. Driver was unable to maintain control of the vehicle and crashed into another vehicle. Upon impact, both air bags did not deploy. No injuries to report. Driver took the vehicle to the dealer.
When braking at any speed the brake pedal would be hard to depress. This would cause extended stopping distance. The dealership repaired the problem.

While driving on the highway at 70 mph consumer slammed on the brake pedal in a panic situation and brakes locked up, causing the vehicle to skid. Vehicle skidded 15 feet before coming to a complete stop. Dealership indicated that tires had flat spots because of this incident. Also, the torque converter was locked up. This failure was likely to recur if the brake pedal was depressed in a panic situation at speeds of 35 mph or faster. When applying vehicle brakes in a panic the torque converter locked up and caused the vehicle to lose power. The consumer was unaware that this was a characteristic of the vehicle.

Car automatically rapidly accelerates when stopped. The anti-lock off light appeared. This rapid acceleration has happened to me three times in a two week period. I am 50 years old and have never had an accident. Now I have rear ended two people when I was completely stopped. The first time, the car stopped when I hit the car in a drive through mcdonald's. The second I was stopped 2-4 feet behind a pick up truck at a light and my car accelerated and hit him. I had to put my car in park to stop it after I hit him. The third time it occurred I was the first one in line at an intersection. I did not hit anyone, but had to shut the car off for it to come back to a complete start. The dealership has had my car on two occasions and it did not malfunction when they had it in their possession. However, the service manager told me that they have had problems with the sentra model. I now am fearful of driving my car and put it in park whenever I stop. I am going to write to the president of Nissan. This is my third Altima and I love my car I am just petrified to get behind the wheel. The next time it happens it may be when I am dropping my son off at school.
I started to brake my vehicle well before a red traffic light. In the line of traffic, I was braking firmly but my vehicle would not come to a complete stop. At the red traffic light, my vehicle kept bumping a BMW in front of me. I began honking my horn for the driver of the other vehicle to move forward, but she did not. With my foot constantly on the brake, I put my vehicle into park. When I did that, it accelerated more. A man in a truck in the next lane saw that I was having difficulty braking, so he shouted taht I should turn off my ignition. I did. The vehicle finally stopped. The driver of the BMW approached my car asking what was going on. The man in the truck verified to her that I was braking, but couldn't stop my vehicle from bumping her. We exchanged information. I drove my vehicle to my service mechanic nearby. He could find nothing wrong. I took the vehicle to the dealer the next day. The dealership mechanic checked the vehicle and a dts was also called to inspect my vehicle. The also could find nothing wrong with the brakes, but they did fix my air conditioner. It was leaking inside the car on the passenger side. The rug was completely soaked. The also could find nothing wrong. The vehicle is now parked (delivered by dealership) in front of my home because I am afraid to drive it. I have done research about these episodes called "spontaneous acceleration". I also see that you have complaints similar to mine that suggest the same problem exists in other Altima's, as well as other make and model vehicles. Hopefully, you will investigate this matter. I refuse to become a fatality statistic by taking the chance of driving my car and having this unpredictable event occur again. Nor do I want to hurt anyone else. I want Nissan to replace my vehicle. I have done other investigating on the internet in relation to "spontaneous acceleration". I am quit concerned that the NHTSA is not investigating these complaints.
To whom it may concern: I was in a terrible car accicent on 11/1/00. Neither airbag deployed and I had damage on all four sides of the vehicle. The worst of the damage was in the front . . . The front of the car was gone down to the engine. This vehicle never drove well during the rain. In an ironic way, I am happy to know I am not the only one this has happend to. When I contacted the dealership, they refused to answer my questions & just said, "Nissan has a fail proof airbag deployment system. " I advised I had video type of the vehicle after he accident, but they didn't even want to see or acknowledge what had happend. Please feel free to contact me with any answers or information pertaining to this situation. Thank you.

Consumer had to use a lot of force when applying brakes. Engine revved up to 2500 rpms, not stopping at any occasion. Dealer just fixed it & twice it has done the same. There was surge in engine while stoped at light, and the rpm went from 750-2500. Although the vehicle was seviced, the problem reoccured. The dealer found out that the cause was a faulty throttle position switch. However, the problem still exists after the switch was replaced.
A car ran a red light and turned in front of me I tried to stop but the car brakes locked and the car started skidding. I couldn't control the car and it skid into the rear of the car that pulled in front of me. The collision was hard enough to fold my hood in half but the airbag never deployed. I went to the emergency room with chest pain and a numb left arm and hand. The airbag failed to deploy.

At 12,000 miles vehicle would squeal whenever brakes are applied with more pressure then normal. Vehicle been in dealer shop on three occasions. Dealer informed consumer that they are unable to locate the problem, and refused to look at the vehicle any longer.
While driving vehicle on the highway at 45-55 mph owner rearended another vehicle and there was no deployment of the passenger's or driver's side airbags. Also abs brakes locked up.
Consumer was pulling out a parking lot when another vehicle struck his vehicle on the right corner. Then when consumer tried to drive vehicle away from the other vehicle, he stepped on the brakes to stop, but vehicle did not stop. Vehicle went over the sidewalk.
I am constantly changing brakes.
The power socket into which the plug for cellular phone goes into, does not stay attached to the dash when unplugging the jack. The location of plug does not allow for cup holder to be used when using.
