The floor boards have rusted through on the passenger side. There is no rust anywhere else on the vehicle but is through the floor. There are many issues reported for this issue and it stems from a design flaw that leaves an open area between 2 plates on e floor boards such that rust will inevitably form in an environment that has winter. Upon asking for assistance from Nissan they acknowledged that they understood my concern but they would be able to help because the vehicle opus outside of warranty. It is completely unacceptable that they will not fix their design flaw that poses a safety issue (fumes may enter the cabin) because of the warranty period. The rust clearly formed many years ago but was not recognized while the warranty was still valid.

It appears as if my dashboard is "melting. " the finish on the dashboard is disappearing and it had became very sticky and there is a glare on the dash that is hindering visibility. I have researched the problem and it appears to be common on 2008 Nissan Altimas and my concerns that it will only get worse. I would like to make this problem aware now before it gets worse.
The dashboard is melting causing glare on the windshield which can lead to an accident due to limited visibility.
My dash is melting and its creating a reflective surface which is creating a high glare on the on the windshield which is impairing my vision to drive.
The floorboards of the driver side have rusted through. This is a common complaint posted about numerous times online, with no response from Nissan. It seems that Altimas from atleast 2003-2006 were effected. No recall has been placed that I have found, although many, many complaints and discussions about manufacturing defect.

I have noticed that over the last several months 4-5 months, that my dashboard of my Nissan Altima coupe 2008 is beginning to melt. Initially, the defect appeared as a glossy, shiny hue to the dashboard along the edges but over time, its has now started to melt with severe glossy and sticky residue - the glare from the dashboard on my windshield is dramatic and becoming unsafe during afternoon driving. It involves all edges of the anterior dashboard along the edge of the speakers and air filter and appears to be moving posteriorly. I have not used any chemicals to try to improve the issue and everything I place on the dashboard sticks severely.
Purchased this vehicle a year ago still paying on the car and upon state inspection passenger side floor boards on a 2003 Nissan Altima rusted through. Failure mileage is 100,498.

Well I have a black 09 Nissan Altima and I started to notice that my dashboard is very sticky and shiny and it looks like its melting. There is such a big glare that blocks your view when you're driving. I look online and saw that other people in florida have the same problem I do. In florida the weather is always hot. The cars in florida should be made to withstand the hot weather and not start melting. This is such a safety hazard for drivers.

My dash is melting along the edges which leaves a bad glare and when driving towards the sun, visibility is obscured.
The contact owns a 2008 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that the heat from the sun melted the dashboard. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the entire dashboard needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000 and the current mileage was 104,000.
Sections of my front dash are melting. The deterioration has left the dash in a tar like state that is sticky and shiny. The reflection from the sun is so bright that driving is difficult around noon. The car is parked in a garage 90% of the time so there is no reason other than poor quality for this to have happened. I have contacted my local Nissan dealership and Nissan directly and they both are unwilling to offer any assistance as the car is out of warranty. I completely understand that but it is dangerous to drive and I am worried that if the glare prevents me from seeing another car or pedestrian someone could be injured. Nissan should accept responsibility for the poor quality and rectify the problem before an accident happens.
I've been having an issue with my 2008 Nissan Altima dashboard melting and causing a glare on the windshield that impairs driving ability. This is completely unsafe on the road, and visibility can often become an issue when temperatures are high.
Dashboard has started to melt in my 2008 Nissan Altima coupe that has greatly impaired my vision when driving on the road on a sunny day. The glare reflected from the melting portion of my dash is reflected onto my windshield. I have almost been in multiple accidents due to the lack of visibility.
2008 Nissan Altima coupe's dashboard is melting. I live in florida and apparently Nissan didn't take into account the weather here when using material for their dashboards on this year and model. The whole top dashboard is sticky and looks like a wet substance. Because of this it creates an intense glare that is a sever safety hazard when driving. I called 1800-Nissan and they don't want to do anything even though they used faulty material. This is a known concern since others have had the same issue. If u do a google search of this issue, you'll find its a very common problems for nearly all Nissan Altima (2008) who live in southern climates and Nissan will not accept responsibility of this issues, does someone has to die in a accident or get dismembered ? thank you.
I own a 2008 Nissan Altima coupe. The dashboard which is the original has begun to melt and the glare is very bad. I have not added any solvents or chemicals to the dashboard. I find it hard to drive on sunny days due to my windshield reflecting the glare caused by the melting dashboard. This problem could have caused me to be in numerous accidents. I have searched for a remedy to this problem yet the only one is to replace the dashboard and I imagine this would just happen again due to the material the dashboard is made from. I would hope Nissan recalls these dashboards and makes new ones. I have also looked into this and I am not the only one with this problem.
We have a 2009 Nissan Altima with less than 3500k miles. We use a sun shade and we try to limit sun exposure. The dashboard is melting and causes a major reflection in the windshield which makes it unsafe to drive since it blocks the view of vehicles and pedestrians. The windows keep filming up from the off-gassing produced which cannot be healthy.
Vehicle dashboard plastic is melting which is creating a glare in the windshield while driving.
Intelli key indicator light began illuminating two days ago. Last evening after dinner vehicle would not switch out of "lock" stranded in 15 degree temps waiting for tow for 2 hours. Nissan service advisor knew exactly what problem was. He called me later tonight to confirm electronic steering lock needed replacing. $800. 00+. Nissan surely will recall "faulty" door handle springs at . 50 cents a whack, but give me a break. It's time Nissan own up to the numerous 2009's that are having this part fail.
The dashboard material is melting. There is a glare on the windshield now making it harder to see. Nissan refused to fix it.

My car is experiencing rust under the driver's side floor board. A quick internet search reveals that this is a known issue for Nissan Altimas, however Nissan refuses to cover the car since it is outside the 5-year warranty. My car even has the undercoat protection, but has a hole in the floor board roughly the size of a softball. This should not occur on a car that is only 6 years old. I am the original owner of this vehicle. Many, many Nissan Altima owners are finding rust holes under their floor boards. This is clearly a manufacturer defect.
My wife's 2004 Nissan Altima floor board on passenger side is rotted out. Took the car to Nissan dealer were we bought the car and the the manager from the service department said that a jack made the problem. Not true a lot of Nissan Altima this year and older have the same problem. The car had 75000 miles on it and the hole was the size of a baseball now it's about over a foot long by a foot wide. What can I do to resolve this problem. There should be a recall for this major problem.

The dashboard of my car is melting. Its causing a glare of the sun that make it extremely difficult to see doing the day. I have almost got into several accidents because of the glare.
Dashboard melted, causing a bright vision-affecting glare on the inside of the windshield. Reduces visibility greatly, will likely cause an accident before too long.
Affected area of vehicle :dashboard this is a safety hazard! this vehicle was purchased on 7/14/2012. At the time of purchased it has approximately 36889 miles. Purchased as a previously owned vehicle. About 1 month after, we noticed that the top of the dashboard by the windshield material started to melt. The material, is like a foam that gets hot, sticky and start to melt. It can start a fire any minute. We took the vehicle to the Nissan dealership, located at semoran blvd in orlando, FL, the same place we bought the car 2 months before. The staff at the dealership proceeded to inform me that, after several visits, that they never seen something like that. That they couldn't do anything because the warranty expired. We took the vehicle to a Nissan authorized shop. The technician informed us that for the Nissan model for that year 2008 the material used was not the standard one. We are reaching out to Nissan to remedy this problem immediately. This is not only an issue that needs to be cover by the manufacturer and present a safety hazard to my family and the community in general. If we don't hear from Nissan in 10 days we are going to go to bbb and the government.
I purchased a brand new 08 Nissan Altima 2. 5s in September of 2007. I live in central florida, and for more than a year, my dashboard has turned shiny, sticky, and is quite literally melting. The last 6 months to a year, I noticed that the part around the radio unit has been cracking and "softening". In the daytime, the shiny melting part of the dash reflects onto my windshield and creates a blinding glare that makes it difficult and dangerous to even see the road. I have tried various cleaning solutions until I realized that wasn't the problem. I have come across many people who have been experiencing the same problem, most in florida, and all 2008 Altimas. I will enclose a link to the forum where many Altima owners have found thanks to google with the issue. I would be happy to send some pictures of the dashboard if necessary. . Read more...
My wife and I noticed that the dashboard on her 2008 Nissan Altima coupe was melted, leaving a sticky substance that seems impossible to remove and causes an intense glare when driving in the sun. We can barely see the road when driving and have called Nissan regarding this issue but they do not acknowledge this issue as a safety hazard.
The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that the front floorboards were completely rusted and the ground was visible through a substantially sized hole. The contact also stated that the interior and exterior of the vehicle was in excellent condition. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, who stated that the floorboards would need to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000. Updated 8/22/12.
Passenger side floor panel is rusting. Car is only 7. Yrs old.
The floor of my Nissan Altima is rusting out. Could cause problems in the future.
When servicing the vehicle for a bad battery, I told the service rep that water would leak into the vehicle and drip down the door trim onto the drivers side of the vehicle. They said there was a problem with the drain lines with the sunroof. (this has been opened only a few times since we owned the vehicle) they said they cleaned the lines. Since that time, I have noticed water on the drivers right side carpet. They asked me to bring in the car for service. On 28 Aug 12, I went out to my vehicle and heard water in the passenger door. I called our local Nissan service center for an appointment on 30 Aug 12. Thanks in advance for looking into this for us.
This Nissan Altima was purchased new in sept 2011. Since the purchase, we have noticed an excessive amount of rock chips in the paint. This vehicle is only driven in town and very rarely on the highways. Now the clear coat is peeling on the roof where there are no chips. I have attempted to resolve this with Nissan and they blame it on normal wear and tear. There are even chips on the sides of the car where it's nearly impossible for a rock to impact.
The floorboard is rotted out on the passenger side of the car. I have talked to mechanics who say they see this all the time in Nissans. I also know of others with the problem. Everyone says it's a defect in stamping but Nissan will not admit it or help anyone.
While my mechanic was reattaching the bumper guard that had come loose, he noticed the rust on the floor pans under both front seats. My mechanic was able to flake off large pieces of rust. He pulled back the carpet and it was rusted all the way through. He said he hadn't seen this kind of rust on vehicles that are double the age of mine. The remainder of the undercarriage was rust free. I took the car into the Nissan dealer where I bought it, and the manager said it was caused by the salt/chemicals used on the roads in different parts of the country (apparently he was not including nebraska). The manager stated that it must have been in an area of the country that uses corrosive materials on the roads. The funny thing is that when I purchased this car, the same man said he knew the previous owners and they took excellent care of the vehicle, always spotless and in for every maintenance check!! which time was he lying!!! come to find out, the car was purchased at a Nissan dealer here in omaha, and stayed in omaha the entire time. The Nissan dealer said they could not fix it, and they gave me a business card for a body shop!!! it would cost about $300, he told me, but I have found it would be closer to $2000. At that time, I hadn't even had the car a year. The dealership had to know about the rust when they sold it to me, which makes me very angry!! this is a severe safety issue! I am afraid that one day I will be driving down the highway, I'll fall through the floor, and of course, I will be killed, no doubt about it!! also, exhaust fumes could be getting into the passenger compartment. Please issue a recall before my car becomes a "flintstone" car and/or I am killed. Nissan is responsible for this safety issue, and they should take responsibility!!.

Dash of vehicle became sticky to the touch-seemed melted. This causes a sheen that when reflected onto the windshield forms an unsafe glare when driving.
