1 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2004 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 03/02/2021

Dealer sold a vehicle as a florida 2 owner vehicle. I did another carfax on it after I made the purchase to discover dealer sold it to someone in TN and they titled it. Then they returned it. Dealer sold it to me without having title on hand. Vehicle was shipped and dropped off at my house without me being there to look it over. They never told me when it would be shipped. When my mechanic inspected it he seen many issues. One was there were parts on the trucks steering that did not belong. It had the wrong sway bar links installed. When you attempt to turn steering hits the sway bar and it literally bends the body of the truck. There are many power steering issues. The power steering gear box is leaking as well as power steering lines. Definitely not a safe vehicle to be on the road. This was never disclosed when making the purchase. Check engine light is on. Coolant sensor as well as engine knock sensors. When under the vehicle you can hear loud banging. Mechanic suspects connector rods and/or main bearings meaning motor is on its last leg. Lastly, dealership has not sent title nor any paperwork on it. All I got was a broken down truck leaking fluids left in my driveway.

3 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2007 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 06/04/2019

We had just had our oil changed in our Nissan Frontier and had a general check of the vehicle before driving it on a vacation to another state. Everything was in perfect working order. We purchased this vehicle new and it has always been well-maintained. It has 118,000 miles. While driving home less than a week after we left, we noticed that the transmission began slipping and coolant was suddenly leaking from the truck. We also noticed a pink or orange fluid mixed with the coolant. We were >3 hours away from home when this happened. The transmission slippage got worse as we were driving. We were luckily able to make it home and took our vehicle in for service. We found out that this truck has the same problem as other Nissans--coolant mixed with the transmission fluid, causing the transmission to suddenly fail. Now the vehicle is not driveable and were are suddenly left with a very big cost to replace the transmission. This sudden failure of the transmission without any warning is extremely unsafe. We could have been stranded far from home or worse, the transmission could have failed while we were driving, causing an accident. I know that Nissan has known about this problem since 2007 and has failed to issue a recall to fix it and failed to change the design of later vehicles. We had no idea that this was a known problem with our vehicle until it happened to us. Since everything was in perfect working order when we left, we had no reason to suspect that in less than a week, our vehicle would become undriveable.

8 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2005 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 03/29/2016

Nissan transmission destroyed by engine coolant leak. Had no problem with transmission until one day, shifted into drive and transmission was stuck in higher gear. Thought it was electrical. Turned the car off then back on. Would not engage in reverse, but forward was back to normal. Took to aamco transmission repair and was told this was a common problem with Nissans in that the design flaw allows engine coolant to mix with transmission fluid and destroys the transmission. Cost to replace is estimated at $4100, can not obtain a used transmission because all the same transmissions have the same problem with engine coolant leakage. Vehicle has 155k miles, and did not have any warning signs of transmission problems. Nissan needs to be responsible for their design flaw. This truck which was running fine last week, will now be sold for scrap at a junkyard as I can not afford to repair for $4100. Aamco transmission said junk yards are full of same Nissans due to other owners with the same problem.

9 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2010 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 07/26/2015

Transmission has been slipping. Happens frequently when stopped at a red light, stop sign. . . When time to go car does not move. Complained to Nissan dealer in 2014 and they suggested changing the fluid. . . Could not find any problems. Fluid was changed and I am still having problems. Will be taking it to another dealer this week. I understand Nissan has had major issues with coolant leaking into transmission as I had a 2005 Nissan Frontier and this is what happened to me. Nissan would not compensate me as my mileage was 100+k. When I treaded in my 2005 for a 2010 I was assured that Nissan had fixed the defect. Here we go again. . . I should have known better!.

Failure Date: 10/06/2010

Whining noise from front of engine. Diagnosed as timing chain tensioner failing. Numerous complaints online. Dealer covered 300 dollars but after 20 days and 13 phone calls, Nissan USA refused to participate in repair or discuss the issue. Concern for transmission failure due to coolant leaking into transmission. Nissan extended warranty to 80,000 which does very little for those of us that keep our vehicles a long time.
