This vehicle has known timing belt issues. The vehicle starts making a loud noise(whining) that gets louder as I drive faster on any road. This is a common problem and Nissan has not done anything to correct this problem. It will cost over 2400 dollars to fix this problem and Nissan doesn't seem to recall for this issue.

The serpentine drive belt came off 4/26/17, 12/7/17, and 2/10/18 . When it was reinstalled on 12/7/17 the mechanic said they found a reference that said Nissan has new serpentine drive belt kit available and if came off again they recommended I get the new kit installed. All three times the belt came off when I started the engine in my driveway. Several times it felt like something was slipping when I stepped on the gas after stopping for a stop sign prior to the 3d time it came off. After stopping.

Noise from front of engine when starting or while running. Have replaced all serpentine belt system parts problem persists. I have now parked the vehicle as problem is worse, and do not want to ruin the engine. Mileage 46450.

Weather turned from rain to icy. South bound on street that overpass interstate. Truck spun around several times first in south bound lane hitting guard rail on west side, went over the curb and median into north bound lane spin again before coming to rest against 4ft high concrete divider on bridge. The driver side air bag is the only one that deployed. My wife was in passenger seat. No other air bags deployed. This truck had dual stage supplemental front air bags and Nissan aabs. . Thankfully our seat belts were probly what protected us from being thrown from the truck. As I stated only the air bag in steering wheel deployed. This should be looked into with all the recalls going on. I had not recieved any notice about this problem. I went to emergency room the following Tuesday to get xray of chest because of pain. My wife went to her dr also.

All of a sudden I heard a whining noise that I had never heard in my 2008 Nissan Frontier 4. 0 truck. The noise is new and over the last week or so, it comes and goes. Vehicle went out of warranty 2. 5 months ago at 5 yrs 2. 5 months old. 54500 miles on the truck. The whine pitch increases with engine speed. In neutral as you rev the engine you hear the whine noise go up and down with the rpms. Very disappointing to think I am stuck with a large $1500 timing belt issue with what I thought was a well designed vehicle from a company I thought I could trust high quality.
My truck suffers from 2 known problems that has been widely reported and are involved in two Nissan tsbs. I have the faulty fuel sending unit and the whining timing belt tensioner. I am not getting any help from Nissan and just get a flat 'your warranty has expired' statement from them. I feel that they should fix these problems or at least offer a very reduced rate for the repair.
Timing belt tensioner guide failure on a 2005 Nissan Frontier. Less than 60k miles. The tensioner can fail and lead to engine failure at any time. Nissan confirms as there is a TSB issued for 2005-2010 trucks, but there is no recall at this time.
2009 started hearing knocking noice from engine. Seem to come and go. Took it to Nissan and discovered the crank pulley was coming apart. Year and half later belts were squealing. Took truck in for tires and asked them to check the belts. Discovered the idler pulley was coming apart. Was informed by service people at tire dealer( tires plus) they have seen this before on Nissan vehicles with the same engine. This was in 2011. Two bad pulleys with less than 42,000 miles on truck. No telling what would have happened if either of this pulleys had come apart at highway speeds. Have never heard of pulleys coming apart on a vehilce before.

The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Frontier. While driving at 10 mph, the contact noticed a soft whining noise coming from the engine. The vehicle was taken to the dealership where the timing belt tension assembly was replaced. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000. The current mileage was approximately 82,000. Updated 07/12/jb updated 7/26/10 the timing chain tensioner positioner assembly and fuel gauge had to be replaced. The consumer stated a recall had been issued regarding the fuel problem. The consumer stated he did receive a recall check, however it was for less than he paid for the repairs. Updated 08/09/jb.
