Nissan Frontier owners have reported 183 problems related to electrical system (under the electrical system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Nissan Frontier based on all problems reported for the Frontier.
We have a fleet of 2023-2025 Nissan Frontiers. Starting in December of 2024 we began having problems with the vehicles electrical system going wild and shutting the trucks down. It causes all of the lights to come on and the truck to stall and not restart, we did not realize that we had a problem until it happened to multiple vehicles over the last several months. A few of them were brought to the dealership where we were told they could not find any problems and just replaced the batteries. So, when some of the others did it, we just replaced the batteries ourselves. This week asked again if there was a known issue and were told Nissan only knows of a battery drain issue. These vehicles are shutting down sometimes while our people are driving them. They also try to restart themselves sometimes. They are automatically applying the breaks when this happens wile the abs light comes on. This is an extremely dangerous situation for our fleet drivers as well as the motoring public. It has happened to 10 of the 15 Frontiers that we own.

The contact owns a 2023 Nissan Frontier. The contact stated that on one occasion, while stopped at a traffic light at a busy intersection, the auto start/stop system turned off the engine, and the engine failed to restart as designed. The contact attempted to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the residence, where a mobile mechanic jump-started the vehicle, and a handheld diagnostic machine was unable to retrieve a fault code. The failure could not able to be replicated. The contact stated that during a second occasion, the shifter was able to shift out of park(p) into neutral(n), and the vehicle was pushed off the road to safety with the assistance of a state trooper. The contact attempted to jumpstart the vehicle, and while there was power, the push to start button was pressed, but the power shut off. The contact stated that after waiting for a while, the vehicle was restarted and operated as intended. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and suggested that the vehicle be taken to dealer, and if the failure was associated with the drive train, the vehicle would be repaired under warranty. The failure mileage was approximately 41,000.
15 mph door lock system does not work. Have been in garage with truck, and heard doors lock with no one near vehicle. I understand there is a class action suit about the door lock system. Seems to me this system could malfunction and possible lock you in vehicle. This is a 2018 Nissan Frontier sl. The fob function normal locking and unlocking vehicle.

2018 Nissan Frontier desert runner. . . Battery inconsistently drains fast when off and while driving. Indicator lights for battery, brakes, abs and traction control come on. Gauges malfunction. Tried another battery and still having same symptoms. Alternator and battery passed bench test. Fuses are good. Wiring harness appears to be in good condition. Grounds are tight and clean. Wondering if this problem is related to the recall on the ignition switch.
“system fault” see owners manual. Forward emergency brake assist not working , reverse emergency brake assist not working. As well as the traction control was not working. Forward/reverse safety is a concern because if a vehicle cuts me off or person jumps in front or walks behind of my vehicle it will cause accident. The dealership confirmed the problem. As well as many people state they have had the same problem with same vehicle. Yes there were warning lights etc. This is not the first time this has happened atleast 20 times. I uploaded a picture of the event not the prior ones. I also found a post online about it.

I am reporting an issue with the audio head unit/touchscreen system in my truck. The unit consistently malfunctions by producing loud static noise when I increase the volume. In many instances, the radio completely shuts off or freezes, and I have to repeatedly press the on/off knob to get it working again. Sometimes it takes several tries before it functions normally. This problem creates a major distraction while driving, as I have to take my eyes off the road and manually reset the unit multiple times. This can be a safety hazard not only for me but also for others on the road. The issue has persisted despite normal use, and it seems to be a defect in the head unit itself. I am requesting that this issue be investigated for possible recall or repair coverage, as it affects both functionality and driver safety. This is not an isolated issue. After doing some research online, I found dozens of other drivers across different truck forums and complaint sites describing the exact same problem—sudden loud static, loss of audio, and needing to reset the system by cycling the power or restarting the vehicle. Many of these reports come from owners of 2021–2024 model year trucks Nissan Frontiers. Car make model: Nissan Frontier 2022 sv thank you.
Classification : br22-001 dtc c1116 and/or c1142 stored in the abs control module.
Cruise control surging vehicle beyond initial set limit. I recently purchased my 2022 Nissan Frontier 4x4 crewcab from a texas dealership. After driving it for a week or so, I noticed that while the "cruise control" is engaged, any sort of incline ahead of the vehicle will cause the transmission to down shift and rev up the engine to 5k+ rpms which causes the vehicle to surge and speed up way above the set speed (cruise set to 45mph, the consequence is the vehicle will surge up to 60mph at times and then let the vehicle slow back down to the 45mph speed set in the original setting. ) I found that very unsafe and that my Nissan Frontier is not the only one that experiences this behavior. The internet has had a few reports/complaints on this very issue. According to some of these owners, there's a software update to address this issues. However, some dealerships will charge for this software update if your vehicle has gone past the 36k warranty date to the sum of $600 plus out of pocket. Meanwhile without that software update, the vehicle will surge unnecessarily and dangerously above the intended speed set initially. Respectfully, 2022 Nissan Frontier 4x4 crewcab.
Jan 29 2025 vehicle failed to start . Turned switch to start several times . No response at all no dash lights no starter reaction no clicking from battery, which would indicate battery problem. Waited several mins approx 30 minutes. Vehicle started and been ok for several more starts today. Suspect ignition switch ,seems many models this vehicle has problems. Mine did not show a recall?.
The main issue on the Nissan Frontier that I just bought a few months ago that I need to report that I think should be recalled item is the passenger side exhaust manifold is cracked and it makes ticking noises the exhaust is loud and I am definitely getting exhaust fumes drawn into the cab especially when I turn the heater on now that it's winter time and it's getting co2 carbon and exhaust fumes inside cab which is very toxic also the rear window defogger does not work and the cruise control does not work at all so anyway you're asking for what date this first occurred well it was like that when I bought it and I bought it on approximately in July of the summer 2024 it was all these issues were already broke when I got it I looked online and I see that the exhaust manifold is a very common problem and it is also a health hazard and toxic and could cause injury or death to passengers so I believe it should be and maybe is recalled I see online where some dealerships a few years ago already started fixing the issue for free before it was even recalled so I did a recall check and it says that there's no unfixed recalls on my vehicle but that exhaust manifold needs to be recalled and warranted because it's happening on a majority of those that means it's a bad design and it is also health hazard safety hazard health risk of injury or death because of it.

Issue: engine and electric system completely shut off randomly while vehicle is driving. Cannot reliably reproduce, but all electric is lost and engine shuts off or at best resets in low gear until things come back alive. This has happened about 4 times to me across two batteries. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? the system is blaming the "battery current sensor" and I believe it is the system that controls the "dynamic" alternator system. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? the vehicle loses all power and lighting. This causes me to pull over without power steering and power brakes. This could happen at any time has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? the dealer has read the code but refuses to work on it without a brand new oem battery. This first occurred with an oem battery, and I replaced with one and the problem still happens. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? only the dealership, who was useless. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? no indicators the driver would be able to see. The check engine light is not on. When scanned via the obd2 sensor, the Nissan specific code is thrown, but you obviously have to have the correct tool to see this.
Complete power/ignition failure resulting in death of driver on [xxx] while driving at night in the rain in a 2017 Nissan Frontier pickup 4 door. The tdps in mckinney, TX is pulling the black box for testing. 2 weeks before the accident the same vehicle (2017 Nissan Frontier pickup) 4 door lost complete power/braking/ignition failure on the same road [xxx] in princeton, TX the vehicle was pushed off the road and then towed to a local mechanic in wylie, TX the mechanic had issues in determining what was wrong with the vehicle. He ruled out alternator, battery, fuse box and wiring. I am a witness to the previous failure and it was documented. The same day the vehicle was picked up from service, the individual died that night in the vehicle in a tragic accident. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

Radio and backup camera fail to work ,black screen for as long as 10 mins when started since brand new . Radio stops playing loses sound or starts rebooting with loud pops while driving , calls to Nissan cs resulted in being told to video the issue when told I cant I was basically told tuff talks with the dealer sm resulted in the same wording we need a video of it as that radio unit is $3. 000. 00, but they did try updating the software which didn't help . Intermittently when started there is a blank screen with zero sound, being a retired auto master tech and a dealer service manager,I have never dealt with such a poor acting company in regards to safety.
We have had multiple occasions when the dashboard read as "system fault"with multiple warning/indicator lights. 12/12/23, while backing out of a parking space at low speed. 9/12/2024 while at a red light, and lightly letting off the brake. 9/13/24 while driving 65 mph . An appt was requested at the dealership of purchase for 9/17/24. An email notification was also received from the truck stating that the abs system may be malfunctioning. When the alert warning/indicator lights appear, the alert states on the dashboard "warning" "system fault" "see owners manual" . The system generated email states "your vehicle's antilock braking system may require service". We only received one notification from the vehicle related to the 9/12/24 alert. On 9/19/24 the dealership could not replicate or find a code related to the abs system fault and we were encouraged to bring the vehicle back if it happened again so they could run the code. The dealership would take the vehicle for a longer drive on 9/20/24 to try to replicate the issue. At this point, we filed a complaint with the manufacturer, and have not heard directly from the dealership if they have been able to replicate the warning. The concern for safety is that since the vehicle alerting that the abs system may be require attention, there may be other electrical issues with the vehicle, along with braking issue concern. There was one occasion on 1/21/2024 with a system error message stating "warning when parked apply parking brake" the vehicle had just been turned on and put in reverse. There is a large safety concern as this vehicle has had other safety issues including a half latch (where the doors would not open from inside or outside, requiring exiting through alternate door, a parking pawl recall, and transmission issues that we've brought forward in our formal complaint to the manufacturer. Including "tow" alarm notifications to strengthen the safety concern of electrical issues with this vehicle.
My truck has been warning malfunction on cluster cause can't let me pedal push to go and can't let me on control cruise over 100 times. I went to Nissan dealership to check my truck. Thy said need new engine. I felt they scammed me nine still fine and drive good. I told them to disgontic analysis my truck. Still said ned replace new engine. 89,000 miles short time engine. When malfunction warning light will stop me go pedal or control cruise. I hav to turn off engine 10 mins then start to go working good until 1 hr again malfunction warning on cluster to prevent me go control cruise and pedal.
The contact owns a 2021 Nissan Frontier. The contact stated while attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start as intended. After several attempts, the contact was able to start the vehicle, after which the vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. The contact also stated that when the failure occurred, the exterior lights would not function properly. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the brake light switch. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 21v135000 (exterior lighting), but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 36,000.

•what component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? [presumably an issue with electrical (alternator failure on 8/15/2024, then again on 9/3/2024, dead battery)] •how was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? [on both dates described above, the vehicle lost complete power and was unable to be restarted. The loss of power occurred in very busy lanes of traffic, causing me (driver and sole occupant) to exit the vehicle and push it our of active lane of traffic. In both cases, the stall caused other motorist to brake hard to avoid hitting my stalled vehicle and/or to pass me on right hand shoulder. ] •has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? [in both situations, the vehicle was towed to the dealer where vehicle was purchased, and service to the vehicle was provided. On first occasion, I was told the vehicle had a bad alternator, and that the alternator was replaced. On the second incident, I was told the battery was dead, and the battery was replaced. ] •has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? [per service tech, a Nissan engineer visited the location and observed the vehicle. ] •were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? [in both cases, at no time did any warning lights appear prior to loss of power. There were no other indications a power failure that would lead to the vehicle suddenly stalling in busy lanes of traffic was imminent. ].
The contact owns a 2022 Nissan Frontier. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the driver’s seat independently moved backwards and slightly tilted. The vehicle had been taken to the dealer where the contact was informed that the there was a failure of the feature to adjust the seat to assist while an occupant was exiting the vehicle had operated erroneously. The dealer informed the contact that there was no way to turn off the feature, and to disconnect the electrical wiring harness attached to the seat to prevent the failure. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had been made aware of the failure via email; however, the contact had not received a response. The failure mileage was 34,000.
Not a critical safety problem but truck has reoccurring low voltage. . Most recent are July 11,13 and 15. Dealership will have my truck on July 30 for inspection, oil change. Truck has 3000 miles. Next problem is the trucks camera for backing and forward movement. Screen is not showing all views and any view is reversed picture. Camera faulty in park, reverse and forward. Faults started occurring on July 13 2024. Truck had 2985 miles. Dealer will check the camera on July 30. This truck has a history of electrical problems. At the dealer for those on 9-26-23 at 447 miles. 10-17 -23 at 662 miles. Dealer replaced the engine room harness at 916 miles on 11-02-23.
This first appeared on or about 7/2/24. Saw dealership on 7/9/2024. First driving the cruise control failed and showed malfunction. The next morning truck started but numerous things didn’t work like radio and rear emergency braking. Rear braking was a malfunction. Also trip a/b were erased. On 7/9/24. Dealer found some previous codes and said might be due to storage switch issue. But the codes seem to point at a distant sensor but stated it could have happened due to low battery volts. Now on may 29th I requested the battery to be load tested because the a/b trip meters had reset twice. Never saw the results of that test. Back in early may I put the battery on the charger due to it showing lower voltage. Battery was at 50 percent at time of charge. Truck sat on lot from Aug 23 till March 27-24 when I purchased it. Sorry about going backwards. So dealer stated on July 9th that codes found were old (3556 miles) cleared and drove truck 3 miles with no problems. On 7/11 failed again reported it to dealership. On 7/14 failed again. All failures were with forward collision system. On 7/16 dealer said no codes drove truck no issues so they wouldn’t do anything else , even though it’s a possible safety issue even though I had documented pictures and text messages sent to dealer. They needed it to happen when they drove it. 30 mins later driving home malfunctioned again called dealership immediately on the side of the freeway to report this issue again. Response was a number for a tow truck and it didn’t matter because they weren’t driving the truck. This resets every time the truck is turned off. I explained numerous times that it’s intermittent, that’s the issue and why I have everything documented. So as for now I have a system that malfunctions with cruise control on or not. Truck has 4000 miles on it. Dealer won’t do anything due to it won’t malfunction in their procession. Currently at a loss.
While towing a travel trailer the 7 blade tow wiring harness failed. Harness shorted out melding the connection and blowing replaceable fusible link (pn 24 370-c9906). Main wiring harness plug end melted and could have cause a fire.
The screen that displays the back up camera and navigation system turns off randomly and often.
Backup camera not engaging when in reverse gear. Backup camera is still visible thru the settings menu. Infotainment screen stays in normal state when switching to reverse gear.
There is a lot of 2019 Frontier that has problems with the radio and bluetooth. In my truck it's the bluetooth, it just stop working, phone activation doesn't even make a sound. Just stopped out of the blue. When backing up the beep that let you know you close to something doesn't work stop over a year ago.
Some mechanism in the door is bad. I get locked out of the vehicle when the truck is unlocked. On multiple occasions this door and truck will try to lock itself with the keys still inside (the warning alarm will go off). To get back into the truck I have to lock the door and unlock it even though the door was unlocked to begin with. If the situation were to arise where this door is stuck closed with the keys inside the vehicle, it can cause many issues for the owner/operator (this happened to me once, but the other side was not jammed fortunately). I have brought this vehicle back to the dealership many times and they have not fixed the problem.
The contact owns a 2012 Nissan Frontier. The contact stated while driving at approximately 40 mph, the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that the steering was difficult to turn. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact pulled over and stopped the vehicle. The contact shifted into park(p); however, several attempts were needed to restart the vehicle. The contact had taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the cam shaft sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred and had the cam shaft sensor replaced again. Additionally, the contact stated that the ignition key was no longer working and turning the ignition switch. The contact then drove the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the cam shaft sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that the vehicle failure had reoccurred, and the vehicle was not taken back to the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 179,000.

Truck will turn on once in awhile and I was told it is the ipdm module and that there's a recall on the part. What can I do to get the part sent to me since there is a recall and the mechanic told me that with a recall I can get the part sent to me at no cost to me.
I was at the post office on redwood road in south jordan, in the dropoff mailbox lane. At the end of the lane is stop sign. The stop sign is for the traffic coming into and leaving the post office. I was sitting at the stop sign when I turned east towards redwood road, as I was pulling up behind a blue SUV, the Frontier lurched forward and the rpm’s rev’d all the way up and the truck shot forward. I put my foot on the brake trying to stop the car but it hit the blue SUV at the stop sign, that was waiting to turn onto redwood road, and proceeded forward at what felt like a high speed into a blue sedan turning into the post-office. With the second impact the airbags exploded and the Frontier continued east bound across the remaining lanes of north/south traffic heading towards a house across from the post office. I had both feet on the brake trying to stop the Frontier, and in the end the only thing I could think to do is put it into park, so I grabbed the shifter and slammed it into park, effectively stopping the Frontier from plowing into the house. Guideline answers: 1. I experienced sudden unintended acceleration, not sure what the failure is, except the brakes would not work and the vehicle would not stop. 2. Since I wouldn't stop, I hit two vehicles, and a man broke his sternum. Somebody, including myself could have been seriously injured or worse killed. 3. No, I can't get anyone to inspect the black box! I have tried many, many, times!!! 4. No warnings! I have correspondence, pictures, etc. , but this form will not allow me to upload. The truck has been deemed totaled by state farm and is currently with them, but is scheduled to be scrapped in a couple of weeks.
This is 3rd time to dealer and under 900 miles. Same issues. 1st time with 440 miles . 2sd time with 660 miles. Picked truck up at dealer today and has 870 miles. Drove 18 miles home. Check engine light back on . Also key system error, malfunction, system fault, parking sensor, driver attention alert. Got email from Nissan connect saying emmision control malfunction and mil light on. Continued driving will damage vehicle. Dealer has had my truck 2 days 1st time and 17 days for 2sd time. Dealer installed an abs brake module on 2sd visit. Now dealer is working with Nissan for multiple other indications. All safety alerts and warnings are not working.
Vehicle returned to dealer for a third time for same problem. 1st was on sept 27 2023 for check engine and all driver assistance warnings alerts flashing. Vehicle had 447 miles. Had 28 trouble codes. Released on sept 29. Oct 18 2023 vehicle back to dealer with the same check engine and driver assistance warnings again with 662 miles. Dealer replaced rpl master assembly. Released on Nov 02 2023 with 916 miles. I drove vehicle 18 miles and check engine and driver assistance warnings were indicated again. Took vehicle back to dealer on Nov 02 2023. Dealer replaced an engine room wiring harness and returned vehicle on Nov 29 2023 with 965 miles. Have less than 1000 miles on truck. Will monitor if problems return.
Vehicle alternator failed at 79,000 miles. Instead of shutting off, vehicle disabled the cooling fans but kept the engine and fuel supply systems running leading to the vehicle overheating during diagnostics which require the engine to rev and hold an elevated rpm. Unsure if other systems like braking and steering were affected by the choices the vehicle made to keep the engine running despite no cooling since the truck was not moving when it over heated. .

In summer 2023 driving on uneven country road in upstate new york hit a pothole and my airbag warning light came on. Then started to flash. Truck is still drivable but now the seatbelts no longer lock in place during a sudden stop did research online Nissan has a voluntary service campaign for this exact issue. Campaign id p7318 I made appointment with koeppel Nissan. Had to wait weeks then they canceled my scheduled appointment on September 4 and reschedule for September 12. Probably not safe to drive truck with airbag light on and seatbelt issues. I go to my regular mechanic. He tells me seatbelt retractors do not seem to be working. He tests them by extending seatbelt slowly. Then tugging hard. He said they should lock in place. They do not. He also put a scan tool into obd port. There are zero codes nothing showing why airbag light flashing. Informs me there is a 10 year warranty on seatbelts. He said wait for dealer to do their replacement of air bag diagnostic sensor unit. He said the airbags deploy in stages. Your light coming on is first stage second stage is seatbelt locking in place. Yours did not lock in place but your retractor might have been damaged or a sensor in buckle part of seatbelt related to airbags. On September 12 I bring truck in. The dealer first tries to tell me there is a diagnostic fee of $200. I refuse to pay telling them it is a Nissan voluntary service campaign and seatbelts are under warranty. They agree to waive fee. They call me up an hour or two later said “they are unable to perform recall the software update is no longer available. The problem with seatbelt related to software or sensor unit”. I complain to Nissan of America. The person on phone tells me a manager will call me back and e mail me. Case number 49514132 I have never received a call or e mail from anyone at Nissan regarding this safety issue. Perhaps a full recall is necessary for all affected vehicles under campaign id p7318.
