A bad smell of gas from top off gas tank not gas cap there looks like corrosion on top off gas tank.

After refueling the vehicle, I noticed that the fuel gauge was still indicating that it had only 1/4 tank of fuel. I drove about 2 miles and the "service engine soon" light came on. After arriving at home I shut off the vehicle, checked the fuel cap for tightness, and restarted. The fuel gauge dropped to empty, the low fuel light came on, and the ses light remained on. Later that day I drove about 35 miles under the aforementioned conditions. Upon stopping and restarting the vehicle, the fuel gauge went to full, but the ses light remained on. That is the situation as it stands now. I have not contacted Nissan directly yet, but I have researched the situation, and found numerous reports online of the same problem, and of Nissan's unwillingness to resolve the issue at no charge to the consumer. (it is apparently a defective fuel sending unit. ) my reason for reporting this is twofold. 1) to make everyone aware of the issue, and 2) to express my concerns that a malfunctioning fuel gauge could cause a crash if the driver ran out of fuel while in motion, and had to make an emergency stop.

On above approximate date I started to smell fuel coming out from my truck every time the tank was at full capacity. Since then engine light will never come off. I took for repair several times. Change oxigen sensor, gas cap, thermostat, carbon canister and solenoid. I contacted Nissan but I was told that there were no recalls for my vehicle.

When filling my 2001 Nissan Frontier crew cab SC with fuel, it consistently overflows. This has happened at different gas stations, so I know that it is a problem with the vehicle. Every time I set the automatic pump on full flow, the shutoff is not in time to prevent gasoline from overflowing onto the side of the vehicle and on the ground. The intermediate setting also results in a fuel spill. The only way I have not had a fuel spill is to slow the pump's setting to the slowest level. I had the vehicle inspected at ed martin Nissan in indianapolis, and they replaced the fuel tank assembly. This did not fix the problem and then I was told that Nissan was reviewing the problem. I have contacted Nissan but they have not provided any sort of meaningful response.
