Driving to work and vehicle shut off and coasted to a stop. I tried to restart and it acted like it was not getting fuel. The gas gauge was showing slightly under a 1/4 of a tank. I had someone come get me and take me home. After doing a little online research I found a NHTSA recall for that specific truck campaign id# 10v075000, recall date 3/3/2010. After reading this I went and purchased some gas and put it in the truck. The truck fired right up but the gas hand didn't move. Called two local Nissan dealers and talked to them about the recall but they found none for my VIN.
Nhtsa campaign #04v230000 applies to my 2002 Frontier but it is not covered because its VIN is a SC(supercharged) model it has the same gastank, sending unit, orings as trucks in the recall but my model is not included in recall.

I try and fill up fuel and the pump constantly shuts off. I have to pump the fuel super slow in order for it to fill up. I have tried different gas stations, same issue. I took it into the dealer and they did some repairs under the enhancement warranty they implemented, but the issue still exists. They want to charge me $1900 to replace the fuel tank and other fuel components even though the exact same issue is happening as described in the warranty enhancement for the issue. Code p0448. The issue is beyond just the evap canister if the issue still exists after they replaced it, so it seems as though they are only trying to repair part of the issues even though it is beyond the basic fix, if it is still occurring. If you try and fill up normally, the nozzle shuts off or the fuel spills out because it is detecting it is full even though it's not.
When putting gas in the vehicle it will just begin pouring out, happens often and the tank is still empty.

Fuel gauge reads half tank when actually empty. Very dangerous. Ran out of gas on a major interstate that was 3 lanes wide. I was in the far left lane when engine stopped. Power steering and brakes go to manual when engine stops. Had to maneuver to the shoulder across 2 lanes to the right with no power steering and no power brakes while vehicle was quickly losing speed. Nearly was hit several times while changing lanes. Vehicle had slowed to about 25 mph. When semi must have figured I had no power and stayed behind me blocking two lanes so I could get to the shoulder. Probably saved my life and prevented a very serious accident. This unreliable fuel gauge problem should be recalled regardless of age of vehicle before someone is killed or seriously injured.

Fuel gauge started hanging on a quarter tank when I had much less then when I realized that it has to be wrong and filled it up it would go to empty and turn on check engine until it got down a ways then work until 1/4 again where it would sit until you ran out. Same scenario as NHTSA #10v-075 but Nissan says my truck was not affected VIN# even though it has low mileage and went out at about 70000 mi range.
Ever since the last service a couple weeks ago, the last two times getting gas the gas has backed up and spilled out the fuel fill up door. Unable to fully fill tank. Engine warning light comes on.
I went to fill the gas tank today and it started coming back out the about 10 minutes later the mil light came on took it to dealership said it was vent control valve needs to be replaced 495. 00 dollars truck has 45000 miles Nissan said I was out of warranty bs.
Tl-the contact owns a 2006 Nissan Frontier. The contact stated that the fuel gauge was not reading correctly. When the contact filled up the gas tank the gas gauge was showing the level as empty was the tank was filled with fuel. The gas gauge now always shows as being empty. The manufacturer gave the contact a case number , checked for recalls and referred the him to the NHTSA. . The failure mileage was 47,500. Tf.
There is a known problem with the fuel sending unit for Frontiers about this age. Nissan extended the warrantee a few years ago, but it wasn't long enough to cover the defect. Now the sending unit needs to be replaced for the fuel gauge to work, and the whole gas tank needs to be dropped to do it. Nissan ought to cover this known issue with a full recall, not just an extended warrantee.

The gas gauge mostly shows empty on a full tank of gas and the fuel light on the dash stays lit. The diagnostic reads p0463, which is a fuel level sensor high input circuit a. Sometimes the fuel gauge will read differently as the tank gets closer to empty. I bought this truck used and this was the issue at the time of purchase so I'm not sure when this began.
Every time I need to fill my truck up, I never let it get below a quarter of a tank, fuel will come shooting back out as if it is full, but it is not. My truck was off, and the key not in the ignition. This has happened every since my getting this truck, 1/19/20190 to current. I have to fuel slow in order to get gas a full tank, like there is a kink in the system.

I went to the gas station and filled the tank up all the way. Before I filled it the fuel gauge read slightly above a quarter tank. After I filled it I turned the car on and the needle was stuck at slightly above a quarter tank. So I turned the car off and turned it back on. The fuel gauge then dropped to the bottom and triggered the low fuel indicator along with the service engine soon indicator. Over 600 complaints have been issued and this happens on a lot of Nissan cars such as the Frontier, xterra, pathfinder, etc. This is a engineering design issue not a maintenance problem.
Gas tank vent not working properly while refueling. Spill over at fuel fill up door, unable to load full tank of fuel into gas tank. Engine warning light illuminates.
The contact owns a 2007 Nissan Frontier. While driving at unknown speeds, the fuel gauge indicated that there was fuel in the fuel tank, but in reality, there was no fuel in the vehicle. While in traffic on a hill, the vehicle stalled due to lack of fuel; however, the fuel gauge displayed a quarter tank of fuel. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. There were no open recalls for the vehicle. The failure mileage was 72,000.
Safety recall fuel sensor sending unit - our vehicle is in impeccable shape and garaged with 53,000 miles - warranty/recall on issue. Nissan will not fix this safety issue. Fuel sensor malfunction. Also happened on our 2006 Nissan pathfinder and was covered. Full tank of gas reads empty.
The top of the gas tank is completely rusty and is emitting gas fumes. If you look at the gas tank under the truck you can see gas stains. Had my truck in the shop at my local mechanic and he did a smoke test and shows the smoking coming from the top of the tank where all the rust is. There's a recall on the truck for the previous year but mine is a couple of months off. I find it hard to believe this issue was fixed. You can read about it all over the internet. . Read more...

The fuel sensor is not relaying accurate fuel levels. When vehicle is near empty tank the tank fuel gauge will often still read 1/4 tank level. The check engine light remains on which codes alerted on diagnostics relay back to the sensor issue. The problems is now worsening where even at full tank the gauge will sometimes indicate empty with fuel alert light on and tank just topped off. The improper fuel indication has caused the vehicle to run out of fuel several miles from a gas station while still showing 1/4 tank level. This can be very dangerous as being stranded in nc in peak of summer temps outside can reach over 100 degrees. Furthermore stalling out for lack of fuel in busy city traffic or sharp turn on highway at 60-70 mhp can lead to a very dangerous accident.
The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Frontier. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the fuel gauge would display inaccurate readings indicating more or less fuel was available then what was actually in the fuel tank. In addition, while refueling the fuel would sometimes back out of the filler hole when streaming fuel at a steady pace. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel level sending unit needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in the NHTSA campaign number 10v075000 (fuel system). The contact stated that the vehicle had experienced the same failure listed in the recall. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 110,000.
I have documented everything. Pictures, receipts, who I talked to, dates. Everything in a long outline that I will attach. Please read it. The issue is that I purchased this truck 12-28-2016 and have yet to get the advertised fuel capacity of 21. 1 gallons. My truck gets about consistently 15 gallons to fill up and no reserve tank. Nissan is not disputing that there is a defect and my vehicle is not the only one. There is another truck at my dealership right now with the same exact problem. And the dealership has admitted that there are others. Plus I've found more online in forums. They don't know how to fix it yet.
I have a 2008 Nissan Frontier and the gas vent control valve has failed where the back wash flap at the top of the gas tank has fallen into the gas tank neck preventing me from being able to put gas into the gas tank. I called Nissan headquarters and they transferred me to a local dealer. The service manager there said I would be charged $150. 00 just for them to look at the vehicle. I think this is outrages because I read on your government site that this is a common problem on more Nissan models too. This should be a recall item. Respectfully, michael h.

The contact owns a 2000 Nissan Frontier. The contact stated that the oil pan and fuel tank failed due to corrosion. The check engine warning indicator illuminated. The contact also observed an abnormal odor of fuel near the vehicle. The vehicle was diagnosed by a dealer where it was determined that the parts needed to be replaced. The oil pan was replaced, but the fuel tank was not replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that it would be an out of pocket expense to replace the fuel tank. The failure mileage was approximately 135,000.

Fuel gauge is not accurate or indicates empty with fuel warning light displayed, even when tank is full. Research shows that it is a defective fuel level sending unit. This should have been recalled for repair by Nissan. Running out of fuel, unexpectedly on the highway could have very dangerous consequences.
Service engine light code po463 fuel level sensor is know defective and told me for them to cover the cost of replacement all they would need is an official diagnosis which I got from Nissan of sacramento at my own expense of $150 which was a struggle since I'm unemployed, I'm told it could show the gauge can show 1/4 tank when there is no gas in the causing potential stalling in traffic and causing an accident.
Fuel gauge not moving to full, as gas tank got refilled. It shows empty after refill and check engine light illuminates. Sometimes stay empty until gas out, not safe to drive. Hard to tell if emptied or not. Need rpair. My truck is only 40000 when this happened, now its at 60000 miles. Repair will cost over $600 if only replacing inside tank fuel gauge.
The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Frontier. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 45 mph, the engine warning indicator illuminated as the vehicle stalled. The fuel gauge displayed an inaccurate reading that the fuel tank capacity was full however, the fuel tank level was empty. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic for diagnosis. The mechanic informed that the fuel sensor would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 10v075000 (fuel system, gasoline). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000.
When fuel tank is full, gauge drops to empty until you drive 75-150 miles, then the needle registers normal for the past year and dealer didn't find the issue. Now engine light registers and inspection sticker is being refused.
In just under 14 years of owning this vehicle, I now have had to replace the gas tank a third time due to leakage. I do not feel that this should be the responsibility of the owner, due to the frequency of this happening. I believe these tanks are a bad design and with poor material to rust out and leak in such short periods of time. I just can;t believe there have not been numerous injuries or any deaths due to these gas tanks. I have attached pictures of the second gas tank that was replaces about 6-7 years ago. And you can definitely see that it has been leaking. By the way. My truck has always been garage kept and I have yet to find someone that believes my truck is that old due to how nice that it still looks inside and out.
The contact owns a 2007 Nissan Frontier. The contact stated that the fuel gauge failed to provide accurate reading levels and remained indicating that the fuel tank was full. The contact refueled the vehicle several times but the fuel gauge remained indicating full. The dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure and stated that the vehicle was not included in a manufacturer recall related to the failure. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The approximate failure mileage was 60,100.
Fuel tank top rusted and water entered the fuel , truck stopped running and would not start truck service did tune up did not help after a $1,200 dollars they found the water in tank did not find the rusted tank untill the third time back, put a sealer on what they could reach and now I do not take my truck out in bad weather help!!!!.
