2 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2010 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 01/11/2017

Passenger side airbag is not in the on position (light stays on) when small stature female is sitting in seat; she tried various positions to activate it (turn off light) but was unsuccessful; it appears that the sensors are not sensitive enough to pick up the weight of a person under 125 to 130 pounds; vehicle was in motion and stationary.

3 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2011 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 10/25/2015

Side airbags deployed while my wife was driving on a smooth county road without a collision at approximately 20 mph. Driver only in the vehicle, ears are ringing. Had to cut the air bags to be able to drive the vehicle home. In drive way, unusable at this point. Seat belt retractors activated so cannot use seatbelt at this point.

4 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2013 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 04/05/2015

The side airbags deploy too easily in Frontier trucks, all without need of a crash Nissan won't cover the damages under warranty and refuses to reimburse owners who must pay out-of-pocket for repairs. Nissan does have a program to reprogram the air bag diagnosis sensor unit but will not cover the reinstall of the side curtain aid bags. The air bags are going off because of a false reading from the sensor unit. My Frontiers side curtain air bags deployed at 5mph on a flat surface.

6 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2013 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 05/01/2013

Side air bags deployed with no impact of vehicle. Nissan claimed the vehicle was at an angle that required the bags to deploy. The vehicle is a 4x4 truck and was not at any angle that required the air bags to deploy. Speed was 10mph on a flat dirt road. Even though the vehicle only had 9000 miles the $4500. 00 was not covered under bumper to bumper warranty.

7 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2011 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 01/09/2013

Going down back road, hit a depression, the truck naturally rocked a bit from side to side, side airbags (passenger and driver) suddenly deployed w/a horrendous loud bang, scaring me half to death a long w/my left ear ringing. Ridiculous that it is that sensitive in a 4x4 truck that they advertise navigating rough conditions. I truly hope this does not end up costing me and that Nissan steps up to the plate and makes this right. 2 other very similar reports on this site.

8 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2012 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 03/09/2012

Myself and one passenger were off-roading in my 2012 Frontier pro-4x going over a bumpy surface and without warning the side airbags went off! luckily no one was injured, but we both got quite a scare due to the noise and lack of visibility. There is no damage to the front end nor were we at any degree of angle. Yes it was bumpy but when you pay for a vehicle that states clearly off road on the side you expect it has the suspension to support the ride. The very last thing I was thinking of was the air bags, until they came out.

9 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2011 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 08/10/2011

Myself and three kids and dog had been on a mild 4 wheel drive road having a little cook out and hike. We were coming home on a smooth maintained county road going and coming to a stop by a stream. I think my foot was on the brake, we were maybe going 20 miles an hour when my side airbags exploded. Seat air bags and front airbags fortunately did not explode. I recieved mild burns and bruises on my face. My 6 y. O. - red, hurt on his chest. 11 y. O. Lost his hearing temporarily and red stinging ear. Other child, 8, uninjured as she was bending over putting on her shoes as we were coming to a stop, but is afraid to sit up straight in a car now. Wants to lay down on the seat all the time. We had to cut ourselves out of the vehicle with our jack knives. We had no cell phone service and had to drive home 45 minutes with no seat belts and they locked up. I can not even start to describe how scary it was. Nothing has been done to correct it. 2011 Nissan Frontier with a 6 year extended warrenty and they are trying to get out of fixing it- no one understands how this can be. Nissan is now looking in to the 'little brown box'. We are looking for help.

10 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2005 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 03/22/2011

In March of 2011, I was operating my 2005 Nissan Frontier (4-door crew cab, 4x4, nismo package) on a dirt road with one front seat occupant. Vehicle came in contact with washboard/rutted section of road, when the side curtain airbags deployed for an unknown reason, resulting in minor injuries and damage to interior of vehicle and immobilization due to lack of safety equipment (seat belts became inoperable). Nissan consumer affairs investigated vehicle, and would not pay for repairs, as they "did not find any malfunctions. " I am now stuck with a damaged vehicle for a problem I did not cause.

12 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2006 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 09/17/2008

Was driving down a washboard part of a dirt road in route to 4wheel like I normally do and the 2006 Frontier nismo curtain airbags deployed for no reason other then the system believed it was rolling over. This was out in the middle of nowhere away from cell coverage so no police report could be made. I have noticed many threads of xterras and Frontiers online that have been getting this problem including a youtube video of an xterras deploying. Nothing has been done yet the vehicle is sitting in front of my house as I decide weather there is a buildable case against Nissan or to give up and try for repairs somewhere, the insurance estimate is ~4,000$ usd. Both side curtain airbags, seat damage, seatbelts broken.

13 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2006 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 09/17/2008

My girlfriend and I were driving down a washboard farm type road and randomly our side curtain airbags went off on both sides causing severe soft tissue damage in our necks and anxiety / being terrified of the truck. Currently looking into personal injury and filed with insurance company. The area we were in was an area with no cell service and quite far from the nearest town and with the airbags breaking the seatblets etc it was a very unsafe drive.

14 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2005 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 04/06/2007

Side impact/roll-over air bags deployed unexpectedly in my truck while off-road on a bumpy but level surface.

15 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2006 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 07/08/2006

My son was turning around our 2006 Frontier nismo off road 4wd on a rutted dirt road at a speed of no more than 15 mph when the rollover airbags, on both sides, deployed without warning. Nissan of american investigated. Below is a portion of Nissan's letter to me. I will forward via us mail a complete copy of this letter to NHTSA: "air bags must be made so that they inflate fast enough in a severe accident. The speed at which an air bag inflates and then deflates is similar in all designs. Air bags are designed to inflate in less than 1/20 of a second. Air bags are predictive. The signal which is sent to the sensor in some underbody impacts is very similar to the signal sent to the sensor in rollover situation. Both diagnostic and visual checks confirmed that there was no evidence of a problem with the air bag or seat belt systems in your vehicle. " as a result of Nissan's design, a side air bag sensor, 2 rollover air bag assemblies, 2 seat belt assemblies, a headliner and plastic trim items were replaced. The old parts, exclusive of the headliner, are available. On the rear quarter panel, the vehicle is labeled "off road" and is clearly intended for that use according to Nissan'ã‚s advertising. Nissan's own statement proves that their control system for rollover airbags is defective in that their rollover air bags may deploy because the "signal which is sent to the sensor in some underbody impacts is very similar to the signal sent to the sensor in rollover situation"ã‚쳜. Consumers rely on Nissan to design a rollover air bag system that deploys in the event of a rollover, not a defective design which causes an underbody impact to initiate an unnecessary rollover airbag deployment. Rollover air bags that operate in a manner unpredictable by the consumer are not safe. Nissan should redesign this system on future vehicles and recall current vehicles to make the needed changes, before people are injured by airbags that needlessly deploy. Updated.

The seatbel was locked in the fully extended position. The driver's side airbag deployed so hard tha contac't wife sustained an eye injur and , almost becake completely blind. There was a 90% chance that she will lose her left eye, and about 15% that she may lose her right eye. The contact statesd there were visible blood spots on the air bag where the driver' s eyes were injured. The vehicle will be picked up by the insurance company. The contact stated there was a minor accident about 3 months ago, but it wasn't serious enough to cause the air bags to deploy. The contact has not contacted the manufacturer.

Failure Date: 01/30/2001

Am interested in any reported instances of either driver or passenger side air bags not deploying on this make/model vehicle. I was involved in a moving accident with a large deer 0615 am 30 Jan 01. I didn't give much thought to the bag/bags not deploying until both the insurance rep and their appraiser were really concerned about the bags not deploying.
