1 Transmission Solenoid problem

Failure Date: 04/21/2015

Ongoing issue with 5 sp automatic transmission: started, intermittently around 2 years back @86k, and has increased to the point of not pulling into d or r without jumping or surging into gear, often nightmarish in tight quarters/parking, etc. Becoming dangerous as slipping at higher rps has become more prevalent of late, especially lower speed, light incline and increasing speeds. There are TSB's on this vehicle and have a case open with Nissanamerica, as of today's date 4/21/2015. Dealer has, at this point seems purposely?, misdiagnosing and non-acknowledgement of existing and known issues with the aw5550/51sn automatic transmission slippage and jumping/surging. It is a known issue with solenoids; do your research, there is plenty online in regards to this issue. The representative I spoke with today at Nissan will listen, but is advised to not answer questions in regards to this issue, and with good reason. . I know it is an older car, but is in great shape (bought used), there is a known defect, a known fix from the actual technical service bulletin:: 2004 - 2006 Maxima; 5-speed a/t shift issues technical service bulletin reference number(s): ntb11-035,â date of issue:â April 7, 2011 Nissan: 2004 - 2006 Maxima classification: at11-003 applied vehicles: 2004 - 2006 Maxima (a34) applied transmission: re5f22a 5-speed a/t if you confirm note: harsh 1-2 and/or 3-4 upshifts during moderate acceleration from a stop and/or harsh 4-3 and/or 2-1 downshifts when slowing to a stop. The vehicle was taken to a transmission shop for inspection where they stated that the solenoids in the valve body needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 70,000. Kmj.

3 Transmission Solenoid problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2013

I had the transmission flushed/serviced at a local Nissan dealership. The transmission started slipping and jerking between speeds of 20 to 30 mph. Sometime it also slips and jerks when I engage the reverse gear. I also started smelling a faint burning smell since then. At a 130000 I had the transmission fluid drained and filled again as the color of the fluid had changed to dark red. I had hoped that the slipping and jerking would go away, but that has not happened. In fact it has grown worse. I have gone online and have found out that mine is not an isolated problem. There are thousands of complaints from 2004-06 Maxima owners who are having similar problems with their transmissions. I think it is about time that Nissan owns up to this transmission problem with these 2004-06 Maximas and issues a recall, replacement and a fix of these defective transmissions. There are posts on numerous Nissan forums about owners who have figured out that all these problems are solenoid and valve related, within the bad transmissions. I did approach a Nissan dealership, explained this problem in detail, but got nowhere with them. They refuse to acknowledge that such a problem exists. I however got estimate of $4500 from one dealership for replacing the transmission in my car. I also understand there has been a class action lawsuit by some Nissan Maxima owners since 2011. I am currently researching joining them in this lawsuit. I am on my third Maxima since 1999. If Nissan does not come through with a recall/replacement/fix of this problem, this is surely my last one.

4 Transmission Solenoid problem

Updated 06/24/2013.

5 Transmission Solenoid problem

Failure Date: 07/02/2012

Transmission started to shift rough, slip and make the engine rev high between shifts, this is known problem with this type of auto, mainly involving the transmission valve body and solenoids.

6 Transmission Solenoid problem

Failure Date: 10/05/2011

Tl-the contact owns a 2005 Nissan Maxima. While driving approximately 20 mph, the transmission failed to shift properly with extreme hesitation. The failure occurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic that informed the valve body and solenoid would need to replace within the transmission. The manufacturer was not made aware of the defect. 7 Transmission Solenoid problem

Failure Date: 06/16/2011

My 2005 Nissan Maxima is also showing signs of transmission problems. I have been experiencing jerky shifts when change gears. I took my car to the Nissan dealership in newburgh NY , (which I dont recommend!!! ) the car came back with code p0797 , pressure controle solenoid valve stuck on. They looked at the car and found broken wire from ground, which cost me over 400$. When I was driving home I experience the same sensation off jerking while accelerating from gare 1 to 2 (and 2-1). The next day the check engine light came back on. I checked the code in autozone, the same code p0797 was read. Brought the car back to the dealership just to find out that, they look "deeper" in to the issue and found another problem (same code !!!!) supposedly 2 valves on transmission need to be replaced , that will cost another 1200$. I took the car to amcco just to make sure I am doing the right think and found out that the code p0797 stands for mechanical issues not electrical (not for the broken wire!!!!). I called dealership and after long conversation with the manager I was told that they will work with me(not sure yet how) ,but because of my numerous complains he wont fix the valves anymore he want to replace the whole transmission. Estimate 4500$ . The manager told me strait up that he knows Maximas have issues with transmission(it took him about 30 min. To came strait forward). He forgot to tell me how he will work with me.

8 Transmission Solenoid problem

Failure Date: 12/17/2010

I bought my 2005 Nissan Maxima se used and it ran fine a first, but within 2 months the transmission began acting up by jerking, hard shifting and hi engine rev's. I took it to the Nissan dealer and they blame everything else except the transmission. They said it was the motor mounts, but they were new then it was this sensor and that sensor, the dog, the cat anything but the transmission. The dealer gave me a powertrain warranty when I bought the car so I took it to Nissan to do a transmission swap while I had the car there getting some other work done. Since it was another warranty company other than Nissan, they tried to milk the warranty company with parts thrown at it while my car was there. The service manager said that broken subharness caused the problem. With the subharness repaired it did not fix the problem. Next he called and said I had a bad vias solenoid was the problem and that would fix it. He called back the next day and said "well your car is still stuck in 4th gear and I would like to try something else. I told him no since the warranty company had called me and telling me what Nissan had told them and I was being to another story. They told me to take it to a transmission shop from the Nissan stealership since Nissan was playing us both. The car had become a hazard to drive because it stalled in the middle of shifts and it was hard to predict what it would do next. The car worked fine as long as the transmission was cold, but when it warmed up it was hard jerk and shift city. I nick named the car mule kick since it kicked like a mule. I paid the stealership for the work done I but didn't want to since they didn't fix it and it left on a tow truck. Nissan will blame your grandma for the problem before they say it is their transmissions. . These cars need to be recalled and as for this Nissan stealership I would not buy a . 50 sugar cookie from them.

9 Transmission Solenoid problem

Failure Date: 11/17/2010

The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Maxima. While driving approximately between 5-15 mph, the contact heard a loud knocking noise coming from the transmission. Also, the transmission failed to shift correctly. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the transmission solenoid needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 97,000. The VIN was unavailable.

10 Transmission Solenoid problem

Failure Date: 08/13/2010

The transmission start shifting funny 2 years ago. In between 15-20 miles (1 gear) there was a delay and a click during shifting. At that time I had a warranty on my car , but the dealership's mechanics didn't identify a problem, right now it become more visible and the other dealer found the transmission replacement needed but the cat is out of warranty and replacement will be more than $ 4,000. I asked Nissan corp. To cover this replacement as a goodwill repair, but was denied due to out warranty status (which makes no sense to me, as if I would't be out of warranty why should I request repair from Nissan corp. As I would be able to do it in any dealership). Plus I have abs unit to be replace, but the problem is only in the solenoid not in unit, but the dealers do not replace the solenoid but need to replace the unit for $1,900.

11 Transmission Solenoid problem

Failure Date: 12/02/2008

I live in washington state. I bought my 2005 Maxima se in Feb 24 2007 with 48,000 miles on it. When it reach 98,000 miles (mostly highway miles), my automatic transmission began displaying shifting problems. 1. From park and/or reverse to drive it had a 5 second delay to shift into gear, and when it did it shifted hard. 2. Transmission slipped out of gear during slow and go driving causing the engine to rev at high rpm?s and then slamming into gear. 3. Very hard shifts between 1st and 2nd gear when shifting up and down at speeds of 15 to 25 mph. 4. Once it slipped out of gear, and shut my engine down. During slow and go driving I could feel the transmission begin to shift at15 mph, and get a hard shift at about 20 and 25 mph. It shifted hard back and forth between high and low gears. I also, experienced lag time, and high rpm?s before it slammed into gears when shifting. Every transmission place I went to wanted $3500 to $4000 to replace it. As an alternative, I bought a used automatic transmission with 62,000 miles in Dec 15 2008, and had it installed for $2000. 00. After 150,000 miles (mostly highway miles) on the replacement transmission I began to experience identical problems as described above. I?ve had the cam sensors, solenoids, and fluids replaced and it still response the same way. I find it odd of 2 different transmissions that acting the same way. Also, ever since I got this car I have to replace the headlights ever year. Not good for a car that cost $40,000 new from a company that used to have a good reputation.
