1 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/04/2021

I have an 05 Nissan Maxima and the transmission is shifting hard and erratically.

2 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/29/2019

My car only has 112337 mile and needed to replace the transmission , now at 112954 have to replace the abs control module . The transmission was hard shifting/ jerking when you get to about 30-35 mph . So it cost almost 4,000. 00 to fix and the the speedometer and odometer quit working after 500 miles with new transmission and took the car to electrical shop to find out I now have to replace the abs control module and after all the money put in this car I don't think it is worth fixing the abs considering I just bought the car in oct. 2018 and thought I got a great car and alredy have enough money put in it and could never sell it for the money I have in it Nissan should be fixing these issues not me considering all the complaints on these cars with the same problems at the same mileage.

3 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/05/2018

The car has a sound as if it were metal fatigue in the front of the hood a hard blow sounds loud every time the car moves from one side to the other they have not been able to find the problem they say what is a factory defect I am afraid that it is a metal that is under fatigue and the engine falls on the ground running on the street.

4 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/03/2018

This car has nothing but issues. I have had to replace the timing chains along with continuing to deal with the cars transmission and engine revving and trowing itself in and out of gear and dying the the middle of the road or highway. This car is dangerous and hundreds of people are having the exact same issues with Nissan refusing to address the issue or admit fault. Something needs to be done. Im sure people have been physically hurt from this issue and seems strong enough to be made into a class action suit.

5 Power Train problem

Sudden surges and jolting when trying to park car even when the brake is depressed.

6 Power Train problem

10 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/22/2016

Hard shifting from transmission when coming to a stop. Slippage of gears when in a stationary position in park going into drive (takes about 5 seconds).

11 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/08/2016

My car has given me trouble since about a month after I bought it. I bought it used, but have been told Nissans are very reliable vehicles even with high mileage. It will not excel forward at any speed until it gets up to 40mph after stopping at a light or stop sign. It is a disaster in waiting. I drive early in the morning and at night for work. I am afraid someone is going to plow into me because I am not moving fast enough. The transmission jerks bad enough to jerk my head back whenever I put it in reverse. I am afraid to drive it anymore! this has been ongoing for more than a year. I quit driving it a few weeks ago due to the jerking of the transmission when I put it into reverse. The date below is the last day I drove it.

12 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/26/2016

At a red light, car stalled, took a few seconds to restart. When trying to accelerate, it revs like it has a strain; not going anywhere fast, until it gets to 40 mph. This has happened several times. We have changed the fuel pump, alternator, and battery. Each time we changed a part, the car would be fine for a few months. I am afraid when this happens that someone is going to plow into me because they can't stop in time as my car is going too slow. My husband seems to think it's not as much the transmission as maybe something electrical. Nissan should be responsible for this seeing as there are so many complaints about the same thing. Someone is going to be killed or probably already has, but no one can tell what the cause of the accident if the driver is dead! I love the car and would buy another Nissan, but I will research them first! I am glad to see it is not my imagination about the car jumping while accelerating. It seems to only do it when I am driving, but it stops jumping when I take my foot off the accelerator.

Driving home with car on cruise control and vehicle on its on accord revved the rpms over 5000 and then we heard a metal clinking and listed all power.

14 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/17/2016

Transmission violently jerks when going 1st to 2nd gear and while driving at any speed. I was teaching my grandaughter to drive and it scared jer to death when it happened to her while driving. There has been hundreds, if not thousands of transmission complaints with this car online and issue has not been addressed by manufacturer or NHTSA. This car only has 80,000 miles, will never buy a Nissan again.

19 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/02/2015

Car experienced difficulty in shifting. It caused dangerous driving conditions.

20 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/05/2015

For months now, our 2005 Nissan Maxima has experienced a transmission problem. It shifts roughly in low gears (while the vehicle is in motion), both when accelerating and decelerating. It also shifts roughly when moving from park to either drive or reverse, and from drive/reverse to park. A specific incident happened when we were driving down a slight decline, and the vehicle downshifted roughly. This caused us to momentarily lose control of the Maxima and it bumped into a concrete barrier that had yellow paint on it. This paint is now scraped across the bottom ground effects molding on our vehicle. Had the barrier not been there, we would have drifted across the road into oncoming traffic. In researching transmission problems for the 2004-2006 Nissan Maxima model years, it's apparent that many owners are experiencing the same type of problems with the transmission on their 2004-2006 Nissan Maximas, and the widespread nature of these issues warrants further investigation and possible recall.

21 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2015

Transmission is shifting very hard.

22 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/28/2015

I was complaining of the car jumping when changing gears, mechanic found that the motor mount was cracked. Replaced it, some improvement for short period but now car is jumping, hesitation between gears, rough shifting, and diminished acceleration. I did not go to the dealer as my warranty is expired. This is my first Maxima and I will never purchase another. Now told that I'll need a new transmission. Not happy.

25 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/23/2015

Transmission quit working, was stopped at a burger king and when I tried to drive off the car would not move, had it towed and shop says the transmission is bad, the shop did homework and found out that the transmission was replaced a little more then a year ago by north point Nissan in north little rock, they say there was only a year warranty on it and time is already up so there is nothing they can do. Nissan is aware of this problem and the Nissan tech said get ready to save up for another one because they can replace it and a year later it will go out again. They say the transmissions are crap!.

26 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/15/2015

Was at a stop light then when I proceeded to go my cat jerked really hard going in to the next gear at about 20mph. When I went to slow down, the car jerked down going into the lower gear at around 20 mph. Then I noticed ever since when I put my cat in gear from park it jerks really hard.

27 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/02/2015

I recently have been driving this 2005 Nissan Maxima for a couple of months. It has close to 90k miles on it and the transmission is hard to shift and not being cooperative on most days. This seems to be more than a fluid problem and due to recent research I may need a new transmission for $3,000 and I dont have that type of money. I see that this is a common problem with this specific car and feel a recall should be issued on the 04-06 models of this automobile!! other than that the car runs great.

28 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/26/2015

Today is March 26, 2015 and for the past week; my car has been stalling when I am shifting gears. Today I was in a not safe situation at a red light. When I shifted the gears to my car to begin driving, the car stalled on me allowing me to only drive around 5-10 mph down the street. I had to hurry up and pull over because I had cars behind me.

29 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/25/2015

Tl-the contact owns a 2005 Nissan Maxima. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 mph, the automatic transmission switched gears caused the vehicle to stall. In addition, the vehicle would accelerate and decelerate independently. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000. Djr.

30 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/17/2015

The car jerks when transmission is switched to reverse, and takes a good 3 seconds to actually switch to reverse. This seems to be an extremely common problem to these cars, and it is definitely a dangerous one.

31 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/07/2015

The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Maxima. While driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle started to jerk and then stalled. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and it was determined that the motor mounts, crank position sensor, and the timing chain needed to be replaced. The dealer stated that the vehicle may still need a new transmission, but these repairs should be done first. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 55,000.

When driving for a few miles it shifts hard like the transmission isn't wanting to shift right. After reading online I find out that this year of mission is known for some kind of fault in the transmission! other then that the car is in excellent condition but afraid to drive because of the transmission but I can't afford to spend the money on whatever is wrong with the transmission!.
