36 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/31/2014

Bought car used from Nissan dealer. Good service records with regular on time transmission services. Day after I drive it off the lot it starts violently jerking into gear and in the middle of gear. Randomly drops in and out of gear, jerks out of nowhere. Has jerked so hard my neck and upper body were somewhat sore the next morning. Dangerous to drive in close traffic as it could easily jerk violently enough to make me jerk the wheel, accidentally slide foot down onto the gas or brake, etc. This transmission and car was well cared for all of its 107k miles and I have solid repair history paperwork to prove it. This is a dangerous, potentially deadly transmission in these cars. I have a quote for a $3500 quote to have it repaired by a shop. This less than two weeks of owning the car. I am completely disgusted.

37 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2014

Bought the car used in 2013 with 120,000 miles on it. The car has overheated several times since we bought it, but we were able to control it and keep it from causing any issues. Suddenly, when I was shifting from park to reverse the car jerked extremely hard, while driving the car hesitates to accelerate, and has a high rpm reading when shifting gears. After researching this issue, I have come across no fewer than 30 complaints of the same problems with this make/model/year.

The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 90,000. Djr.

40 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/15/2014

Just a month after buying this car, I took it through inspection. I drove the car, which was operating perfectly, directly to the inspection station which is approximately 15 miles from home. On the way home, it started to downshift hard, specifically when close to first gear. It then started to happen periodically. It is now to the point that it happens every time you slow down. And now, it sometimes bucks when accelerating. Forget about taking your foot off of the gas to slow down; this causes the car to buck so badly that it feels as though you have been rear-ended. I took my car to a transmission specialist who stated that he could not find anything wrong with the transmission, even when hooking it up to an electronic computer to find a code. Upon researching, I found that this is a common problem with 2004-2006 Nissan Maximas and that Nissan knows about it but refused to do anything about it. Sounds to me like Nissan needs to do a recall to correct this problem! when calling Nissan, they want you to take your car in for them to diagnose it, which would be at my cost, of course. And then they would just tell me what I can pay for them to do to fix it.

46 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/15/2014

I bought a 2005 Nissan Maxima from private owner less than a week ago. The car had a hard shift when put into drive. The lady I bought from, told me that at the Nissan dealership they said the transmission is working properly and it needs the transmission mounts thats all. She replaced one side but did not have money to do the other side. I was able to drive about 1000 miles before the transmission stopped working. I have read so many complains online about the same exact issue and Nissan will not take any responsability.

47 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/09/2014

My 2005 Nissan Maxima started slippin gears between 2 and 3rd during moderate acceleration and when slowing down, took it the the Nissan dealer, for them to tell me it needs a new transmission, I told them its a known problem, however they do not want to help me out, $4400 for repair.

48 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/29/2014

I drive the car and it is hard to shift gears. When I put the car in drive it jerks very hard. Called the dealership and it was said by the dealership that it is not the transmission but instead it was the motor mounts that were the problem. Once the motor mount was fixed, the problem still persist. I call the dealer back and they have yet to give me a response. When driving, in between 1st and 2nd gear it shift to the 4th or 5th gear causing the car to jerk forward if suddenly accelerated. Complicated situation.

49 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/19/2014

The transmission is doing hard shifts and I fear it is going to fail. Also the throttle position sensor is giving me problems too.

50 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/08/2014

I took my car to Nissan to have my car totally checked over . The abs light came on and I had sharp jerks from the transmission and hesitation around 40 mph . The timing chain also had a rattle when the car was started. My abs system had failed due to water shorting out the abs sensor which destroyed the abs control module repair cost 1200. 00 . When I told the service advisor my abs light was on, he had a service bulletin at his station with exactly what he thought was wrong with my car and he told me it was a common issue with my car. The transmission needs a valve body due to premature wear cost 3500. 00 to rebuild and install new valve body design . The timing chain has guides that wear and chain rubs against plastic then down to metal repair cost 1500. 00. Nissan needs to fix all of these defective cars and pay the people who have made these costly repairs.

Two years ago, my 2005 Maxima started having a hard jerk when it shifts from 1st-2nd gear, and from 2nd-1st. It is not safe to drive it on the roads. This Maxima had many problems and lots of headaches. A piece of junk, no more Nissan cars.

52 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/28/2014

I am having a transmission issue that cant seem to be figured out. I am experiencing a hard jerk when I shift gears from 1st-2nd gear. It wont happen for days but all of a sudden it will comeback. For some reason no one can tell me whats wrong but there seems to be lots of reports and complaints about the problem on 2004-early 2005 model Nissan Maximas. I love the car but Nissan needs to be made aware of this issue.

55 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/26/2014

Severe transmission problems! 1. When slowing down around a turn, upon accelerating, there was a hard knock. Almost felt as if I had gotten rear ended. 2. When slowing down to a stop, shifting from 3 to 2 was also very hard 3. Sometime when slowing down, I would put the transmission in neutral to avoid #2 above. When I would put transmission back into drive, the car would shift hard from first to second and then to third. 4. When coasting downhill, it would intermittently feel as if I was applying the brakes.

The transmission on my 2005 Nissan Maxima 3. 5 se is jerking and slipping/spinning severely. It started around 90,000 miles. This happens when down shifting or slowing down and when taking off. 59 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/19/2013

2005 Nissan Maxima se, transmission problems. Sometimes shifts violently, when in reverse & jumps from 2 to 3 gear, almost like being rear ended, also revs up to 5 or 6 rpm on the tact without foot on pedal, and looses power. I took it to a Nissan dealer who told me I needed a new transmission for $4000. 00 and because of the shifting the motor mounts also need replaced. One time the car will drive fine then the next all the problems are back. I have looked on several Nissan web sites for complaints on this car, there are hundreds of people with the exact 2005 Nissan Maxima se transmission problem, why Nissan does not look into a recall on this car is unbelievable. There is no way several hundreds of people can be having the very same problem and it not being because of the car. This defect in this car is extremely dangerous. Please look into this before someone gets seriously hurt or killed. Look for yourself and see how many people are demanding Nissan recall the 2005 Nissan Maxima se.

Recently, the jerking became stronger and more frequent, even happening when the vehicle was in motion. Car began jumping when it changed gears at low speeds, had to have transmission rebuilt.

64 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/07/2013

The car jerks into gear when accelerating from a light. After accelerating from a stop at 3000 rpm, the car bucks and jerks into gear. The engine revs before the transmission catches gears. When the engine is warm, after about 30 minutes, when changing from drive to reverse or park, the transmission hesitates and jerks very hard into gear.

65 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2013

The transmission jerks really badly when the car shifts from second to third gear. Happens spontaneously, typically around 35-45 mph. When I took it into the repair shop, they said they could not replicate the problem, so I just have to deal with it for now. Seems to occur more frequently when the car is close to needing an oil change. I noticed a ton of other complaints about the exact same thing, and think it is obscene that a recall has not been issued or an investigation conducted at the minimum.

66 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/10/2013

Not long ago my Nissan has started to have shiftind issuses , when I put the car into drive or reverse it take a few seconds then it jerks into gear which is wearing out the motor mounts . I have tried changing camshaft sensors which has helped some other people but didnt not fix my problem. Now the car takes off while im driving ! when accelerating from a light the rpms will jump to 6k and the car will grab a gear and take off which has been vary uncomfertable to drive latley be cause I am afraid it will ram me into a car infront of me . I realy like my car inside and out but this shifting problem is killing me and I dont have $4k to have a new transmission installed , I have no other cars so I have no other choice but to drive it to where I need to go. I havent even had the car for more than a few months so I am traped making payments on it even if I cant drive it . I have read on many diffrent forums about people having the same problems and havent found a way to fix it , with as many reviews of people having problems with their Maxima the transmission should be recalled and replaced free of charge .

67 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/08/2013

Automatic transmission shifting issues. Got the car and the gear shifting 2-3 was jerky. Dealership said it was normal as a lie. Upon driving 30-40 mins, the shifting from d to r and r to d has a delay and big bang/thump on the vehicle, again the dealer says that this is normal. Downshifting from 3-2, the rpm revs up and the car shifts with a delay and slipping.

68 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/05/2013

The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Maxima. The contact stated that while driving 25 mph, the vehicle hard shifted from first to second gear. The vehicle would also hard shift between reverse and drive. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer for a diagnostic test. The dealer flushed the transmission but that did not remedy the hard shift. The dealer did not require the contact to replace the transmission. The failure mileage was 128,000.

69 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/05/2013

I have had my 2005 Nissan Maxima for 7 months and since I have purchased this car I have noticed jerking. When I put the car in drive it hesitates for 3-5 seconds then it jerks. When it shifts from 1st to 2nd gear it jerks. When it down shifts from 2nd to 1st it jerks. When driving in stop and go traffic sometimes it doesn't respond when pressing the gas pedal, it hesitates for about 3 seconds and then jerks really hard then takes off. Please do something about this issue. I have taken the car to different shops to get it worked on but when they tell me it will cost $3000 for a transmission repair I have gone back to pick up my car because I can't afford the prices.
