4 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 08/13/2016

While driving my 2005 Nissan Maxima the gears slip and jump into gear with a violent jerk that is affecting my driving and may cause me to lose control of the car and possible injury myself or others. There is a transmission issue with the valve body that is causing this violent shifting and it seems that I am not the only one that has this issue. It is disgrace that the NHTSA had done nothing to address this wide spread issue, must people die first so it does get addressed. I will also contact my state representative to report the issue. I opened up a case with Nissan consumer affairs with no luck or admittance of their failed component. Nissan dealership diagnosed transmission with a p0726 code and had an open technical bulletin ntb11¿035 which is acknowledgement of Nissans failed design of the transmission valve body. Nissan has quoted me over $2500 to repair their failed design component.

The car turned 100000 miles and the transmission began to shift hard when accelerating and decelerating. The transmission would also slip when going down the road at travel speed,.

The transmission is slipping and jerking when accelerating or stopping. The car only has 84000 miles on it. This began arounds 70000. The jerking is so bad I am afraid my little kids will get whip lash. This is a known problem on many forums and Nissan refuses to take car of the defective transmissions. Hard shifting transmission, stalling at cruising speeds, flashing dash lights. Transmission slippage.

8 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 01/06/2015

Transmission slippage in the lowest gears. When the car warms up after a 10 mile drive it starts slipping. When I try to stop at a traffic light or when I try to accelerate from a complete stop the car jerks off in the lower gears. I came to know online that this is a common issue across Nissan. I would appreciate any helpful steps in fixing the issue. My current value is around $5000 I hate to spend nearly $3500 for a new transmission on the vehicle. I'm sure my car will run for another 30 - 40,000 miles if this is fixed.

10 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 07/14/2014

I recently bought a 2005 Nissan Maxima from carmax it was about a month after I bought the car the transmission started to slip and change gears really rough. The transmission hesitates when changing gears either at idle or while driving the transmission does it the most between first and second and second to third and when downshifting in those same gears. My main concern is my family in this vehicle or any other families in the same vehicle when we are driving in the vehice our heads and necks get whipped back and forth very roughly. It is a safety hazard due to the transmission changing gears on its own while im driving the car. I only ask for you to please look into this and make it a recall. Nissan did not want to help me out or anyone else. I have seen numerous complaints and heard numerous stories about this problem. It needs to be resolved. Nissan put out a poor product and wont fix it. They need to own up to their mistake, before someone gets injured or dies. I ask of you please look into this. Not only for my safety or my infant's safety but for anyone who owns this vehicle. Ps. If I would have known about this issue before I bought the car I would have never gotten it. Pps. The test drive and the 1st month were fine until normal driving conditions occurred. Please help, please help! get this recall active! thanks, frank.

11 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 06/15/2014

For about six months, I’ve been experiencing my transmission slipping/jerking from 2nd to 3rd gear when I either accelerate or decelerate and also when I move from park to drive, and reverse. I, like countless others who have had this issue was told it was my motor mounts at first. Got those fixed and the problem still persisted. Took it to a Nissan dealership and they said I need to replace my transmission ($4300). I am shocked to see so many people complaining about the same issue. The jerking is very abrupt and startling. There is a serious delay in changing gears and sometimes, the car won’t catch into drive/rhythm which causes the rpms to rev higher than normal. This is draining my gas mileage as well. I was told by another mechanic that it is the transmission selinoid and valve that need to be replaced which would cost $1,500. This is a known problem for these models and there are hundreds of valued Nissan owners who have to drive their car with uneasiness and fear that their transmission will fail them while on the road, endangering themselves and others. There needs to be a recall on the transmissions. This is not fair to people who have invested into these cars for reliability and safety.

12 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 06/06/2014

Car has 66,000 miles on it. And transmission is slipping car jerks when pulling off and after turning corners. Didn't think anything of it until a mechanic told me that the 2004 2005 models have transmission problems. Now I'm looking on recall website and I see hundreds of people's complaints. I purchased this car with 3,200 miles on it I guess the 1st owner got wind of problem and immediately got rid of it if I knew then what I know now. I also have a 1997 Nissan sentra no problems with this car they Nissan is putting our lives in jeopardy. We keep putting money out to fix this car when they should be fixing it for free when does it stop who do we need to contact all these complaints and nothing is being done please help.

13 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 03/21/2014

I purchased my 2005 Nissan Maxima in December 2012 - and drove it smoothly and peacfully for about 6 months. Once the milage hit about 89,000 miles the transmission began slipping and within a few days the violently hard shifting began, stalling between park and reverse and reverse into drive. One time it shifted so hard, the check engine light came on and it seemed as though I had no first gear. I wanted this particular car so bad - and am now so disappointed in Nissan -a company and car that at one time I valued so much. What a let down. I am afraid to drive my car that I still owe 10k on - wow.

14 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2013

The transmission slips and jerks the car when up and downshifting between first and second gear. The car has had strong jerks when going from park or reverse to drive as well. This is a major safety concern and should be a recall with the number of complaints over the same issue.

15 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 08/27/2013

After purchasing car from dealer with 66300 miles I drove it for roughly a week when I started to notice the transmission slipping and jerking while going from gear to gear. The car started to drive like a manual even though it was automatic. Then shifting to drive from reverse the car would kick and jerk very badly and a very heavy jerk while driving on the freeway when it goes into a different gear. I took it to a local Nissan dealer after less than 1000 miles driven after being purchased and it was determined that the transmission was broken and 2 of the engine mounts were also broken which was determined to be a result from the bad transmission. The transmission was replaced along with the 2 engine mounts. At 66k miles the transmission on the car should not give out and after reading on various sites this seems to be a common problem with this vehicle. This car is not safe and Nissan should take responsibility for putting out a unsafe vehicle that contains a bad transmission.

16 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 07/26/2013

21 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2013

This vehicle has a problem with the way the transmission was built. My transmission is slipping gears "while driving" I can be on the highway doing 60mph and all of a sudden the gears will change and immediately "lock up" or the car automatically go to a lower speed. I have put in complaints with the maker, they are saying no recall as of yet, only the ones listed on this site for seat belts and the lower lubar switch. I took the car to several dealers and they are all saying the same thing and that is this vehicle falls under the list of poorly built transmissions. I bought the car used with 50,000 miles and is now facing a $6000 repair job??? really. I feel it is unfair a company can put out a bad seed and have no repercussions until an unfortunate event happens.

28 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 11/12/2012

While driving, shifting from 1st to 2nd and back from 2nd to 1st gear the transmission shifted very hard, then after a while, the transmission started to slip between gear changes and now the transmission seems to be locked in 3rd gear and will not shift and revs very high and seems to slip at times. When the transmission would slip at speeds and rev high, the transmission would catch again and jerk the car sideways as if changing lanes. Very dangerous while driving on any road with cars around.

29 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

My car jerks really hard. Coming in and out of 1st and 2nd gear. Will jump after being put into drive. Takes a while to catch drive from park. 32 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2012

When will we get a recall for the 2004 - 2005 Maxima transmissions? this is obviously a known and wide spread issue. I've found and read many many reports on these transmissions slipping in and out of gear, hard shifting (up and down), hesitating and hard jerk when placed in drive, and breaking motor mounts. Mine started this just under 100,000 miles. Most cases I've read reported this starting around 60,000 miles. Some have been fortunate enough that Nissan replaced the transmission, I hope I'm as lucky. Transmissions should be dependable and perform well beyond 100,000 miles, much less 60,000 miles. I've had faith in Nissan and was really impressed with Nissan vehicles until I discovered this epidemic issue. How many does it take to warrant and issue a recall? to protect Nissan's reputation and maintain it's customer base, I hope they support their customers in correcting this.

33 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 06/26/2012

My vehicle transmission slips alot, from 2-3 gears while accelerating or decelerating.

34 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

With only 64,000 miles on a 2005 Maxima the transmission started to shift hard from 1st to 2nd. The transmission would slip while shifting into subsequent gears causing the engine to race +/- 2000rpm until fully engaged. The car was driven directly to the dealer a distance of approx 6 miles. The service department stated that the transmission needed to be replaced with a cost estimate of $4500. It appears that there have been numerous complaints about this transmission. The owner contacted Nissan customer support is waiting for a return call.

35 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2012

My automatic transmission is slipping both in lower gears and at times, at acceleration. Additionally, I put the car in reverse to back out of my driveway. When I put the car in drive, it takes a couple of seconds to go into drive, but then jumps hard into gear. So hard like I've been hit. Luckily I don't live on a busy street. This is dangerous and from my research many 2005 Nissan Maxima owners are having the same problems. I just started research after learning that a friend of my daughter's whose parent owns a 2005 Maxima is having the same problems. This should be a recall.
