3 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 08/02/2011

I have a 2006 Maxima w/ 104k miles that is having the same jerking issues. In Aug 2011, the car lurched and jumped so bad in traffic while slowing down. It also happens whenever I am pulling from a stop light or reversing. This issue continued and sometime I have to stop the car because I thought I was going to get into an accident. Since this appears after the car is driven for about 15 minutes, I will let the car sit for a while before I drive it again. It will drive fine for a few miles and start lurching again. I took the car to our local Nissan dealer and I was told that I will need to pay them $105 for an inspection. I went on to tell them the issue and the service person acted as if he does not know what I was talking about. He was sarcastic in our conversation and he told me that I may have to buy a new transmission.

4 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 07/29/2011

Beginning at 38k miles the transmission has stopped engaging properly when accelelerating between 1st & 2nd gear of the automatic transmission. This occurs between 20 and 35mph and causes the vehicle to slam into gear with a force that negatively impacts the driver's ability to control the car causing an unsafe driving event. The event is as powerful as being hit from the rear while driving. The dealer charged $200 to flush the trans but this had no effect. I have made several attempts to engage the dealer but have had no response. I have investigated this problem and found it is wide spread with this models' 2005 & 2006 year vehicles but is denied by the manufacturer as a warranty coverage problem. Please forward this complaint to Nissan USA and request a reply.

5 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 07/14/2011

The automatic transmission in my Nissan Maxima 2006 jerks when it changes from 1st to 2nd and 3rd. This also happens when I shift from park to reverse. Sometimes during acceleration, there is a 2 to 5 second delay before the car reacts which is extremely dangerous when merging into traffic. These problems usually happen after the car has warmed up and have become increasingly worse.

10 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 04/14/2011

I purchased my 2006 Nissan Maxima sl on 4/12/11 and two days later started having transmission problems at 113000 miles. According to a local transmission repair shop and aamco, I will need a newly designed transmission valve body (approx $1500), new, or rebuilt transmission ($3000-$4000). Car jerks into 1st gear at low speed. When looking online I saw numerous other complaints exactly like mine, indicating a problem with the vehicle transmission valve body. There appears to be an obvious systematic defect by Nissan. This problem could easily occur if attempting to pass another vehicle or pulling into traffic on a freeway. This problem also qualifies as a serious safety issue as lives could be lost. Nissan should recall the 2004-2006 year model Maximas to ensure noone loses their life.

11 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 04/11/2011

My 2006 Nissan Maxima se with 84,000 miles on it is having major auto transmission problems, especially jerking into first gear when slowing down, or starting to go. I took it to a transmission specialist. Nothing shows up on the computer scans, indicating the transmission has to be replaced or rebuilt. Looking online, this appears to be a problem experienced by many other people, including other model years using the same transmission. The cost to repair is approx $3000. 00, and appears to be a manufacturing defect, generally becoming obvious at about 65,000 miles.

14 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 03/20/2011

Transmission. I just purchased a 2006 Maxima. It will shift very hard from first to second. It is jerking, thrusting forward and there is a major delay when you switch from drive to reverse. It is knocking when shifting from park to drive. It does this when the transmission warms up a bit. When downshifting to 2-1, it smacked real hard at a light. I was in the car with my family. This is not good. It would appear that Nissan tried to develop a tranmission that could think for you. It is currently back at the dealership awaiting testing. Please recall those transmissions now before these units get too old.

15 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 03/14/2011

2006 nissam Maxima 3. 5sl slams into gear it is loud and scary and is the car jerking occurs when driving foward on a straight away and when you put it drive or reverse. Had to have motor mounts put on car because of the hard slaming, dealer change transmission fluid still know change, I thought it was the transmission never showed up on the dianostic check did keep the parts when motor mounts were changed out, but I think they are broken again because the engine shifts.

25 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2011

I purchased a 2006 Nissan Maxima in November 2005 brand new from the dealer w/ 3 year warranty / 5 year powertrain. I've done all services, maintanace, etc. My powertrain warranty (engine/trans) just expired 2 months ago. My car is doing 54,508 miles. Once it hit the 54,500 mark the transmission started to fail. It would jerk extremely bad w/ a 5 second delay from n - d, n - r, r - d, & d - r (all of those combinations). While driving it downshifts hard in slows the car (could be fatal). It's very difficult to control the car w/ this transmission issue. I'm checked with the dealer and they are absolutely reluctant to fix the issue since I'm out of warranty. I checked online to see if there are any recalls / similar issues. I've seen countless of people state the same issue when approaching 60k on the car. Nissan needs to see this is a huge safety hazard. I almost had the transmission jam/stick while at an intersection. I could of seriously been injured while making a left turn on a green light w/ oncoming traffic, having my faulty transmission wait a 5 seconds and jolt like a car just hit me. I'm not sure who can help but this needs to be addressed and I feel this is solely their responsibility.

26 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 01/02/2011

We have been having transmission problems with my 2006 Nissan Maxima. It started a few months ago. It starts to jerk gradually. It really doesn't start doing it until the vehicle is hot and has been running for a while. We took it to get diagnosed but it did not read as the transmission at first. As the problem progressed, we took it again and was told that it was the transmission and that it was going to cost a whole bunch of money that we do not have. I started to do research on my issue. Just to find out that I was not the only one with this issue but many more like me. Food for thought, I have in-laws with older Nissans that are still running with over 200 thousand miles on them. They never had had to replace any mechanical parts because of how good they were made then. What does that tell us about the newer models. They were not made to last and we the consumers are to pay for it. Not them. These defective Nissans that were made and purchased in mid 2000's may have not been in accidents/caused accidents/injuries but we want to avoid that. We need Nissan to do something about this issue because these problems we are having will and might cause an accident. All we are asking for is to have our vehicles taken care of.

28 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 12/31/2010

I recently purchased a 2006 Nissan Maxima and have been experiencing some problems with it. After about a 2 months of purchasing it, it starting jerking while driving it. I didn't think anything of it since it stopped for a while. Then some weeks later it did it again causing me to almost rearend someone. Hear it is months later and I was heading home from work and the car just quit on me in the middle of a busy highway. It was cold outside and extremely dangerous. So now I have to get this car towed to the transmission shop to see what's going on with it. I have been reading thousands of complaints of very similar situations. Many people are having problems with the transmissions in early model Nissan Maximas. I have been hearing that these people are paying thousands of dollars trying to repair these cars. I am very scared to hear what the dealer and other shops are going to say. This car has 89,000 miles on it with no warranty.

2006 Nissan Maxima, purchased from stone mountain Nissan in stone mountain, GA on 2-16-08, is experiencing hard shifting in low gears (2-3rd gear). The transmission drops when shifting from park to reverse as well as from park to drive. Every time I took car back to dealer they say "they can't replicate the problem" on thanksgiving 2010, I was traveling on the road with the babies when the car suddenly make this long jerking movement. Failure Date: 11/17/2010

My 2006 Nissan Maxima sl's transmissions jerks very hard into gear after a slow down or when put in reverse. As soon as I enter an expressway ramp, my car jerk so hard into gear that I almost lost control and went off the ramp. I took my car to a Nissan dealership who said that I need a new transmission even though I only have 82000 miles on my car. ( I purchased an extended 100,000 mile warranty from Nissan when I bought the car). That dealership told me I would have to take it to the dealership that I bought it from. When I took it there, they said that they could not duplicate the problem that I described. I know that I'm not crazy and I have read of numerous complaints of the same kind. Bottom line is my transmission was not fixed by Nissan and I'm afraid to drive this car.
