19 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2014

Same issue as another "transmission defect. I am experiencing a problem with my 2006 Nissan Maxima. The transmission in my car is slipping. When I am driving many times the acceleration increases the rpm above 3, before it changes. There are other internet postings with the same issues that I have. Based on the internet research, this seems to be a common problem with this year and model. Why isn't the Nissan corporation being held responsible for their actions?".

20 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 02/19/2014

Transmission started slipping between 2nd and 3rd gears and very high rpm occurred at same time. Needed an entire transmission overhaul. Warranty good for 60 months or 60,000 miles. Transmission gave out at 57000 miles but car was purchased 7-18-06, so it is past the 60 months. Nissan taking no responsibility whatsoever, despite numerous transmission problems of Nissan owners. Paid over $3000 to fix transmission.

Failure Date: 01/06/2014

Slowed down to round a corner. Transmission slips upon acceleration.

22 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2013

After car has been driven for about 30 minutes the transmission slips and hesitates when shifting, especially into and out of 3rd gear. Took it to the dealership and I didn't even have to tell them what was wrong, he asked me if my transmission was acting up. When I said yes he rattled off about 5 things people have been experiencing (hard shifting in reverse, hesitation in upshifting, etc) and I said yes to each one. Without even looking at it he said it would be $4,000 for a new transmission because all of them have that problem. I contacted Nissan about paying for it and they refused, twice. I've almost gotten into a handful of accidents because of this. Switching lanes to pass someone on the highway and the transmission hesitates and sends the rpm's to 7000 and I almost get rear-ended, then when it does shift it jerks so hard the car swerves all over the road. It shifts so hard my engine mounts are broken and need replaced too.

23 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2013

Transmission is slipping.

24 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 02/10/2013

Transmission is slipping and bucking so hard that it feels as if you either hit someone or someone has hit you from behind. Causes you to lose speed and makes the cars behind you to slow down to avoid rear ending collision. When the vehicle is like this it gives you a very uneasy feeling as to what will happen next to cause you to become a hazard and put yourself and others in danger. The vehicle has gone through 2 rebuilt transmissions already this year alone and the problem is starting to resurface again.

25 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

My car was under 90k miles when it experienced transmission slippage, premature clutch wear, overheating, and other problems that ultimately resulted in serious and expensive damage to my vehicles transmission.

26 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2012

Transmission jurking and slipping going into and out of 2nd and 3rd gear. Very hard jurking. Nissan will not replace unless I pay $3,400. Saying internal transmission problem. The transmission shop said that it was the internal valve and all these Nissan transmissions have this problem. The one he would put in for me will have this fault.

27 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 06/11/2012

Transmission began to slip in 2nd and 3rd gears marked by engine rpm spikes then hard shifts into gear in both up and down shifts. Fuel mileage as a result dropped approximately 2 mpg due to surging engine rpm. Additional problems were marked by a violent continual vibration at cruising speeds under light acceleration in 3rd and 4th gears.

28 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 06/07/2012

Transmission starts to slip from first to second when it gets warmed up. I was reading online that Nissan made a defective transmission and is refucing to take responsability for there mistakes.

29 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2012

The past 4 months my Nissan has been jerking when I am at slow speeds. It feels like the transmission is slipping when it is in lower gears. It is very unpredictable surging forward at random times. I feel like any moment it is going to cause an accident or quit all together. I am going to schedule an appointment with Nissan dealer this week, but I did research prior and noticed numerous reports on this same issue. Including a current class action law suit. I do not have 3500 to replace the transmission if this was due to the error on behalf of Nissan. Please help.

30 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2012

Transmission slipped while in traffic on the freeway, the engine revved up then the transmission slipped back into gear, jerking the car forward and nearly rear ending the car in front of me. This occurred several times in subsequent days until I had the transmission replaced.

31 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2012

I bought a 2003 Nissan Maxima se from a used car dealer with roughly 36,000 miles on it in 2006 March. The car ran great for a while, but right around when it hit about 65,000 miles it started having problems with the transmission. Initially, the problem would only surface when I put my car from reverse to drive, and the car would lurch forward violently. I took it to the dealer who said that 2003-2006 Nissan Maxima's were known to have an issue with the transmission, but said it is not covered by any recall and would not be covered by a warranty as my car was beyond the 5 yr coverage period. The car now has 94,000 miles on it and the transmission problem is getting progressively worse. The car transmission slips intermittently which leads to problems with acceleration or maintaining speed and is a serious safety issue and due to this reason I avoid driving on freeways.

32 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 02/15/2012

For about the last 15-20k miles my transmission has been slipping and causing my car to jerk at different times throughout my daily drive. My transmission finally quit working while trying to ascend a small hill my parking garage. The transmission started smoking and finally stopped working all together. I had to have the car towed and the repairs are quoted at a minimum for $1600. Of course this repair is not covered under warranty. It makes no sense that are car with barely 100k miles should have transmission problems.

33 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2012

Immediately after purchase, various instances of electrical malfunction, including mirror lights flickering, dash lights flickering/half doesn't come one, as well as faulty wiring in sun roof causing it to open and closes randomly on it's own. Shortly thereafter, transmission started to slip and knock hard into gears, even though proper maintenance was always completed. Brakes replaced several times. Suspension lacking. As of last week, the traction/slip lights come on and the car will not accelerate properly, almost causing several accidents. This problem has yet to be resolved, as no one seems to know what the problem is. This vehicle has caused financial harm as well as near physical harm on several occasions.

34 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 11/28/2011

Same problem as others are reporting. 2006 Maxima with 80k miles and now getting transmission slipping going from 1st to 2nd and from drive to reverse with a delay of about 5 seconds before it shifts. No problems show on dashboard. Took it to my known mechanic as I don't trust dealers as they try to upsell me nonsense and was told the tranny failing, it will happen on and off but will eventually have to have it replaced at major thousands of dollars. Not a happy Nissan customer and feel being ripped off that Nissan are not hearing these complaints (and sad to say most won't complain and will pay thinking it is their own fault). Shame shame on you Nissan!.

35 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2011

The transmission is slipping badly in my car between 10 and 25 mph. It is a safety hazard if I am on a budy roadway because the car will stall and not move at all for several seconds sometimes. I am afraid it is going to cause me to get rearended. The problem does not happen all of the time and I really cannot pinpoint when it will happen. I have also noticed some very bad jerking when I am shifting from reverse to drive. Again not all of the time and no way to figure out why it happend sometimes and not others. I have seen hundreds on complaints on the internet about the same problems in Maximas between 20074 and 2006. I absolutely cannot afford to have the transmission replaced.
