1 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem

Failure Date: 03/08/2016

Driving down the interstate, merging into the exit lane, I pressed the brake pedal to slow down to the light, as soon as I tap the gas pedal the car jumps out of gear and revs to approximately 6,000 rpm. Car then violently kicks back into gear, more than likely damaging all motor mounts and transmission mounts. It does the same thing when driving around small bends and taking turns. It put my car into limp mode in the middle of the street. This has been occurring for roughly the past 6 months.

2 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem

My 2006 Nissan Maxima, has 74000 miles and has started showing signs of what may be serious transmission problems. 1. Takes about 5 seconds to click into gear after the shift lever is put in "d" 2. Very hard jerky shifts between 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 1st and accompanied by loud clunking noise. 3. Transmission slips out of gear during regular driving allowing the engine to rev freely then jerking back into gear with a loud clunk. There should be a recall on this type of problem, Nissan knows about this problem on 04-06 models. . Read more...

3 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem

Failure Date: 10/16/2010

I have just purchased a 2006 Maxima that has a terrible problem somewhere in the transmission. When I'm driving I can feel the car slip out of gear and cause it to violently jerk like a rear end collision except there is not one. I don't have any lights on to detect a problem but I have seen online that others have had the same issue. I do not want to be the next one dead on the interstate because of a faulty transmission. This problem needs to be addressed because the transmission does not function properly. I bought this car because I thought Nissan made quality cars and cared about their buyers but now I've seen that so far nothing has been done about this. Without a light detecting this problem a lot of service people are unable to find the cause. I care about my family and now will have no other way to work because of this issue.

4 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2010

I own a 2006 Nissan Maxima that now has 84,000 miles. Around 80k the car starting making severe jerking moves when changing into and from lower gears (1st to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd). This has to be dangerous because the rpm will surge and the car will move forward and slip out of gear. I have read numerous blogs and Nissan help blogs of owners that have Maxima's between 2004-2006 all complaining of the exact same problem! I have taken the vehicle to multiple Nissan dealerships and have had the transmission fluid changed twice! the car improved for a short time but is now doing the same thing. Please do something and make Nissan review this very serious problem. Please help before someone gets injured or much worse. Nissan corporate is slow to respond and aware that this is an issue and has in some cases replaced the transmission and in others denied a problem exists. It depends on the dealership and how great of an advocate they will be for you. This is clearly a safety issue. Please help. The vehicle is unsafe to drive once this condition appears. Thanks.

5 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2010

My transmission begins to slip and jerk and get stuck now my car has 94000 miles on it the diagnostic computer reads shift malfunction and from what I have heard and read this is a fairly common problem for this model my aunt has the same car and hers has started doing it to. It is obviously not the consumers fault or anything the consumer could prevent I think Nissan recall this because it is very dangerous when you are sitting at a red light and you car slips out of gear.

7 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem

Failure Date: 05/25/2010

I purchased my 06 Nissan Maxima earlier this year. Now I am faced with a problem with the transmission at only 90k miles. I looked online and found that an unbelievable number of consumers have had the same problem. This problem creates dangerous situations as the vehicle may slip out of gear in places where it can cause an accident. Also when the engine revs due to gear slippage it can cause acceleration which could also cause an accident. There are nearly 100 complaints on just one blog I found, all relating to the 04-06 Nissan Maxima. . Read more...
