Well my car while driving it will completely shut off in me while im driving it. After it cranks back up it is very slow to take off.
I bought this 2006 Nissan Maxima sl with 137,806 miles. I drove it home. The next day, it would not start, I went and bought a battery, on the way the service engine soon light came on. , then the tcs and slip light came on. Took it to a mechanic shop, he keep it almost 4 weeks, and then told me it was not worth fixing/repairing it. I could not believe, I just spent over $4,000. 00 on this car and I only drove it home!!, I took it to another well known mechanic shop, he tells me that it needs a new transmission, motor mounts, sensors and probably more. It is not worth fixing it. I am a 57 year old lady and I dont have the money to buy another car and I dont have the money to fix it. I hear that these cars have alot of transmission problems and more. I wish I had known that before buying it.
Tl- the contact owns a 2006 Nissan Maxima. The contact stated that while driving approximately 20 mph and pressing the accelerator pedal suddenly the vehicle would not accelerate forward and began to roll backwards down a slight incline. After restarting the engine the vehicle would not drive forward. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 200,000. Jft.
When accelerating in low gears, the vehicle jumps and jerks and sometimes revs up the engine. Bad transmission. When placed into reverse, it stops and jerks.
Transmition failing. Slipping often.
Car has issues shifting from low gears, jerking and bucking.
My 2006 Nissan Maxima se 81k miles just quit shifting. It will not go forward or reverse.
Transmission is shifting hard and slipping.
Over time the problem has gotten significantly worse. While transmission attempts to shift, it "slips" and revs up until it "catches" and then jerks into gear. This happens when accelerating, and also while decelerating you get the jerk and loud "clunking". When changing gears from reverse to drive, the car will pause or hang up for a couple seconds before popping into gear, accompanied by a jerk again. When the engine is shifting and you hear / see the revs start to jump off you need to let off of the gas immediately in order to stop it from red-lining or jerking so hard you snap your neck. This appears to be a common problem with these model Maximas. Sad.
The transmission started jerking and slipping a few weeks ago till suddenly started decelerating in the free way to the point that had to stop. Now it doesn't accelerate anymore.
The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Maxima. While driving 30 mph, the gear shifted from first to second gear without warning. In addition, when the gear shifted, it made a loud abnormal sound. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 119,000.
The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Maxima. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle jolted forward intermittently. In addition, the contact stated she noticed the failure occurred more when the air conditioner was on or after she had reversed then shifted into drive. The vehicle was taken to an unknown transmission shop, however the vehicle was not diagnosed due to the diagnostic fees. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer and the manufacturer was not contacted or made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.
Bought this car for my daughters first car when she turned sixteen. She drove for one month and the transmission started jerking hard, reving up high, and slipping. She scared to drive now so the money I paid for this car is wasted. I'm a mother of two I don't have the kind of money they want to replace this transmission. She only needed to drive her sibling and her to and from school a mile down the rd but the car jerks on the way there. Not a very dependable car for a Nissan top of the line made vehicle. We have always had a Nissan guess I need to switch brands since Nissan does not want to fix the mistake they are responsible for.
Paint is fading hood, trunk and roof. Transition is bucking.
At 107,000 miles the transmission was jerking into gear after the rpms revved. Transmission was replaced at 107,000 miles. Transmission is now having the same problems at 148,000 miles.
The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Maxima. While driving 35 mph, the vehicle suddenly jerked independently. The failure recurred multiple times. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the motor mount failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic (the contact's brother) and repaired, but the failure recurred. The contact's brother then diagnosed that the motor mount failed because the transmission was not shifting properly. The vehicle was not repaired again. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000.
My 2006 Nissan Maxima is shifting gears on its on as if there is a transmission problem. The steering wheel keeps shifting to one side the guys at the wheel alignment place told me it's the rack and pinion. They also informed me that the rack and pinion goes out very fast and the part is about 400$. The gas light and the light that tells you that you need coolant has been on and stays on. The car is not running hot and my car has a full tank of gas.
Hard shifting when engine is at operating temperature when shifting from reverse or neutral to drive. Saw many other complaints of the exact same nature through Nissan forums.
Transmission, hesitation between gears, rough shifting, sudden stops or diminished acceleration, in city driving after 1/2 hr of driving.
Transmission does not function properly. Harsh upshifts or downshifts during moderate acceleration or slowing down.
The transmission is acting up as with all other Maximas. It's jerking and slipping on the street. It's really dangerous to drive. Called up the dealer and new transmission would cost $3000.
The 2006 Nissan Maxima has a major issue of violently jerking after 100k miles, I have seen reports that it does this even before it reaches such mileage. I have a 2006 Nissan Maxima worst car I have ever bought I will never ever buy another Nissan product. The car violently jerks into gear when coming to a stop or driving off, this problem has been identified by many owners and Nissan has done nothing. I have spent 1800 hundred dollars replacing the engine mounts and the car still jerks. The car is paid for and I will not spend anymore replacing the transmission because that would cost more than what the car is worth.
Transmission went completely out after replacing it at 74,000 miles. Went out on the freeway while driving. Very dangerous.
Initially the car would have a delay shifting into park and would stick in 5th gear while driving. I changed the front cam position sensor, cps, myself for $80 in parts at autozone. This fixed the problems for about 4 weeks. Started happening again and the repair shop said it was the cam position sensor again. So went back to autozone and they provided a new front cps for free. Problem kept happening so I took it to Nissan and they changed the back cam position sensor. Seams to have solved the problem for several months. It is now is intermittent when shifting hard into drive, but has started shifting hard around 20-25 mph, not sure if it is the sensor again or what. Very irritating and seems to be an electrical issue with the sensors that tell the tranny when to shift? not sure if sensors keep going out or if the wiring harness for it keeps shorting the sensors out or what the issue truly is. It would be nice if Nissan would figure it out and tell us what truly needs to be done to fix the issue. Transmission seems to be in working order otherwise, but just shifts hard between 1-2 gears? otherwise the car is outstanding.
"transmission recall" my Nissan Maxima has 146,000 and has never been hot rodded. I have only drove it around town and to and from work. Recently while driving the transmission just gave out while driving. I was noticing some weird shifting problems between 2nd and 3rd gear. I never really noticed that bad but it was there. So when I was driving the transmission gave out in the middle of traffic. I coudnt go anywhere and cars where having to go around me. I had to get my car towed to my house because I wasn't going to pay for this. I started reaschering and found that I am not the only one. A lot of people are complaining. This is an evident problem that needs fixed.
Hi all, I went to smoky mountains for memorial day long weekend end and I was on the 11 miles dragon tail road. My 2006 Nissan Maxima had been acting weird by jumping when the gear is shifting automatically but I didn't take it hard because my mechanic said it is not a transmission issue and I trusted him, but that day was a scary day while driving my vehicle was jumping automatically more than usual. I thought that I would fall from the mountain and luckily my friend asked me to take a u turn after half the road. Everybody in the car were so scared and paranoid after the car acted in such way. We kept our lives in our hands and left hope on god to save us till we get down the road. The way my car acted on the dragon tail road in the mountains freaked us all. We initially thought this might be due to bad gas with additives may be which filled near smoky mountains, but got confirmed today after reading multiple issues and complaints in reference to the same problem via many sources on 2004-2006 Nissan Maxima and other vehicles. Why is the north american government who ensures the safety about these vehicles not even taking any action in reference to the same. I saw that many people complained on this issue and no one got any luck on the solution. Also, we are not asking to give us a new car. All that we are asking is justice for our hard earned money which we spent on this junk Nissan cars. I think Nissan holds a junk yard and makes all their transmissions from the junk yard parts. Also, this manufacturer should be held responsible and penalized to the maximum so that no other personal can have a bad experience as me. Imagine if I had hit somebody or I myself fell from the mountain due to the Nissan's mistake in manufacturing these defective transmissions. God, please punish these people who are playing with our lives as no one else is hearing or helping us.
Got the car in 2012 and was doing fine for a while until the end of 2014. Car had started jerking when switching between park, drive, and reverse and would also stall in between. By February, the car started revving and stalling during stops and was bad when I was in traffic. I had to try and get above 25 mph because below that, the car would seriously act up. Eventually stopped driving until this year when I took it to a shop to get checked out. While driving there the car revved and stall at every light and I almost hit the back of a car when it decided to rev at a 4 way stop on a hill. It's either jerking, stalling, or revving. I know it's a transmission issue and will be a costly fix. I honestly don't have the money for it. In between all this, the paint has severely started to fade and I have noticed other Nissans in my area going through the same issues. Also, why does the airbag light come on even someone is sitting in the passenger seat? the car just has been one issue after the other. Will not be purchasing another Nissan.
Transmission jerks into gear and when shifting. Acceleration can be slow and has caused me to nearly have and accident when I could not clear an intersection as quickly as necessary. Sometimes the car will clunk into gear when shifting and when driving. Transmission will stick in 5th and need to shift manually to move at all. This is a problem waiting to happen as I might need to get out of the way of traffic, or a train, and the car won't move. I have read multiple forums where others have the same problems with their 2006 Nissan Maxima. I have had this car since it was new. Now, 147,000 miles. Amazing that other cars continue to run, safely, well into the 300,000 mile range. Disappointed with Nissan for not having a recall on this transmission.
I just recently purchased a used 2006 Nissan Maxima sl 5spd automatic for my wife in excellent condition with 144,000 miles. It had been kept up with a good car fax. When I test drove it I made sure to pay special attention to the transmission & how it shifted from 1st to 2nd & downshift from those gears since I heard nothing but bad stories about these cars from 2004-06' it shifted smoothly. Seemed to have no issues of what I've read in reviews. I thought great! this is the car my wife likes a lot & how it drive! we take it home. . Registered & insured then a few days later it starts! my wife says it shifted/downshifted hard a few times on here way to work which is only 8miles away on back roads. We bought it from a private seller so I don't know if lemon law applies? I came across a site that had simalar complaints & that Nissan hasn't addressed the issue nor sent out any recalls. So that led me to here, after reading a complaint someone said to register my issue with NHTSA. So I hope our voices will be heard. Because overall it's a great car! but if Nissan made a mistake? owe up to it! and please fix it! don't try & pull the wool over everyone's eyes! well thanks for listening. I hope they resolve this problem.
Transmission hard shift.
Once the transmission gets warm it's very dangerous. Bad stalling from reverse to drive and once you slow to round a curve and go to accelerate again. It slams really hard shifting. Causes a bad jerk. If you are driving in rain, let out of the gas to start I to a small curve, then when you give it has again. If you are not careful you will have a high rmp when it finally shifts back into drive it will cause you to spin. Possibly could cause an accident.
Drive train is slipping and making a loud banging noise when starting to move in low gear.
Once the car has been driven for 30 minutes or more, after a stop for a red light or stop sign the transmission will "jump" as it shifts to the next higher gear usually when just at. 20 -30 miles an hour. My car has mileage of 106,000 and has been doing this for approx. 6 months off & on. Its seldom that I drive it any significant distance & that's when it is noticed.
My son bought a Nissan Maxima in sept, 2015. The transmission started jerking and sometimes falling out of gear, in November. I had someone change the transmission fluid several times, at once, because that had been reported to possible help. It lessened the problem but did not get rid of it. The car has not been driven much since Jan, 2016, as my son has gone into the army. But the problem is still happening, and the 6300 dollar car we bought in sept 2015, carfax offered us 1500 for it. The problem happens anywhere, after about 20 minutes of driving. It is not constant, but happens about 80% of the time.
Car was purchased with bad transmission not knowing that jerking was so bad it felt like a rear end collision had occured. Had it replaced and now its starting to happen for a second time since owning the car. Car will jerk at 20mph and 40mph. The car also accelerates forward when going down hills. Car is a safety hazard waiting to kill myself or others because I just don't know wht will happen. Sad to see Nissan does not stand behind fixing the unsafe transmissions for thosands of people. I will never buy another Nissan and hope that no one gets killed before all the effected cars are off the road. Sad to think that Nissan doesn't stand behind their cars and safety of the owners. An owner of a car that is less than 10yrs old shouldn't have to buy two transmissions in 4 yrs of ownership. Sorry I ever bought this car and definitely let my opinion be heard when others look to buy a Nissan product. I am scared to sell my cr because I feel it is dangerous and has been nohing but a maintenance mobile with continuous stress and fear of what will happen next.
