Three problems related to transmission stuck in gear have been reported for the 2006 Nissan Maxima. The most recently reported issues are listed below. Please also check out the statistics and reliability analysis of the 2006 Nissan Maxima based on all problems reported for the 2006 Maxima.
Over a period of about three weeks, the transmission on this car went from occasional rough shifting to being stuck in 5th gear all the time. The car would "reset" with the ignition turned off, than the car restarted, but that too failed to work after about a week. The situation now has the car un-drivable. Nissan claims the transmission is totally failed, and an independent repair shop agreed. The car will still do one normal shift cycle when it is cool, but than remains in fifth gear after that.
2006 Maxima with approx. 68k miles. Car started to jerk and make a loud noise when shifting from drive to reverse and reverse to drive. Car began to stall and surge forward. Car now jerks on many gears and gets stuck on some. I stopped driving it when the rpm's shot up and the car took a while to kick into gear while driving home from a game. 1 week later I hesitantly decide to take it to a mechanic who says that he has noticed this transmission issue on a lot of 04 and 06 Maximas. The part itself needed to be bought from Nissan and cost $1,000. Please investigate this defect so that it can become a recall.
2006 Nissan Maxima se power- 96,000 miles, train/ transmission is slipping in and out of gear between second, third, and fourth gears. It currently gets stuck in 5th gear on the freeway. On the city roadways I currently press on the gas pedal, the car will not move and all of a sudden slip into gear, causing a jerking sensation and sometimes making the car move into the other lane. When bringing the car to a stop, the car doesn't move out of gear and at the stop light the car will down shift; causing the car to move forward a couple of feet. Many other Maximas between 2004-2006 have been experiencing the same problems. Their really needs to be a recall on the Maxima between 2004-2006 models before someone gets hurt.
