I inadvertently upon depressing the brake pedal, also pressed on the accelerator pedal. What is apparently normal for the 2005 Nissan Maxima, is the brake pedal can move below the level of the accelerator pedal. This highlighted two problems:
1. The bake pedal travel is to much, and
2. The distance between the brake and accelerator pedals is insufficient. The result of this problem is to apply more brake pressure thereby also accelerating the car. I was parking and ended up upon the median between lanes of parking and damaged my bumper and skirt under the front end.

Brake pedal and gas pedal are too close. While trying to put on brakes, foot hit the gas pedal.

Lump behind brake pedal. When I press on the brake pedal, the top of my foot (10. 5 shoe size) presses against a lump which stops me from applying more pressure to the brake. To avoid this, I have to position my foot at an angle. Unfortunately, when I need to apply the brake in a hurry, the last thing I think about is the angle of my foot. This is a very dangerous design flaw and I was wondering if your agency has come across this problem before. Thank you.
