I have a 2004 Nissan max se, 6 sp manual transmission. My clutch failed completely out of the blue at 76k miles, currently has 98k. I can barely shift in for the first 20 minutes from cold start, it slips out of gear while driving, sometimes the clutch loses pressure. The dealership was of no help to me. I have been driving stick exclusively for 20 years and this is the worst clutch I have ever driven. I constantly have shift shock and the car is not enjoyable to drive, whatsoever.

May 4, 2006 I was traveling on west academy/green st. Northbound. The clutch had just been replaced for the second time and it malfunctioned again. (it literally sucks to the floorboard with no play to disengage to neutral, this had happened to my husband twice prior, I panicked didn't see the red light or stopped traffic and slammed into the car stopped in front of me at an estimated speed on 40 mph never hitting the brakes. The damage to the car was severe with an insurance pay out just shy of $10,000. 00 dollars. The damage was only to the front of the car, no airbags deployed (there are eight airbags in the front passenger compartment) I was restrained by the seat belt. It was not enough for me not to be injured, I hit the steering wheel and gear shift causing severe bruising to my arms, legs, chest and a bump on the head.
The clutch in the consumer's 2004 Nissan Maxima went to the floor. The vehicle's clutch went to the floor which did not allow the consumer to shift gear and resulted in the vehicle slowing down to a stop. The consumer could force the transmission into the next gear but worried about the damage to the gears. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but they were unable to find anything wrong. The problem occurred each day the vehicle was driven.
2003 Nissan Maxima experienced clutch failure @ 23,000 miles with normal wear. Car has original tires and was driven by an experienced driver. Our experience has been that clutches normally last more then 75,000 miles. This was a $900. 00 repair on a two year old car and Nissan offered no assistance.

Consumer states burning type smell from engine or clutch area and vehicle lacks power. Dealer removed transmission and found clutch disc worn out. Clutch assy. Replaced, consumer has had to have the clutch replaced for the the third time because bushing that holds the clutch between the flywheel and the transmission which was installed was not the right part for the model of the transmission in consumers vehicle, but was installed anyway, because of inproper fitting it caused the clutch to wear prematurely and has caused some damage to the transmission.
Air in clutch lines.
