Car has 66,000 miles on it. And transmission is slipping car jerks when pulling off and after turning corners. Didn't think anything of it until a mechanic told me that the 2004 2005 models have transmission problems. Now I'm looking on recall website and I see hundreds of people's complaints. I purchased this car with 3,200 miles on it I guess the 1st owner got wind of problem and immediately got rid of it if I knew then what I know now. I also have a 1997 Nissan sentra no problems with this car they Nissan is putting our lives in jeopardy. We keep putting money out to fix this car when they should be fixing it for free when does it stop who do we need to contact all these complaints and nothing is being done please help.

I purchased my 2005 Nissan Maxima in December 2012 - and drove it smoothly and peacfully for about 6 months. Once the milage hit about 89,000 miles the transmission began slipping and within a few days the violently hard shifting began, stalling between park and reverse and reverse into drive. One time it shifted so hard, the check engine light came on and it seemed as though I had no first gear. I wanted this particular car so bad - and am now so disappointed in Nissan -a company and car that at one time I valued so much. What a let down. I am afraid to drive my car that I still owe 10k on - wow.
Same issue as another "transmission defect. I am experiencing a problem with my 2006 Nissan Maxima. The transmission in my car is slipping. When I am driving many times the acceleration increases the rpm above 3, before it changes. There are other internet postings with the same issues that I have. Based on the internet research, this seems to be a common problem with this year and model. Why isn't the Nissan corporation being held responsible for their actions?".

Transmission started slipping between 2nd and 3rd gears and very high rpm occurred at same time. Needed an entire transmission overhaul. Warranty good for 60 months or 60,000 miles. Transmission gave out at 57000 miles but car was purchased 7-18-06, so it is past the 60 months. Nissan taking no responsibility whatsoever, despite numerous transmission problems of Nissan owners. Paid over $3000 to fix transmission.
Slowed down to round a corner. Transmission slips upon acceleration.
After car has been driven for about 30 minutes the transmission slips and hesitates when shifting, especially into and out of 3rd gear. Took it to the dealership and I didn't even have to tell them what was wrong, he asked me if my transmission was acting up. When I said yes he rattled off about 5 things people have been experiencing (hard shifting in reverse, hesitation in upshifting, etc) and I said yes to each one. Without even looking at it he said it would be $4,000 for a new transmission because all of them have that problem. I contacted Nissan about paying for it and they refused, twice. I've almost gotten into a handful of accidents because of this. Switching lanes to pass someone on the highway and the transmission hesitates and sends the rpm's to 7000 and I almost get rear-ended, then when it does shift it jerks so hard the car swerves all over the road. It shifts so hard my engine mounts are broken and need replaced too.
Ride in the car has become very jerky, from gears slipping. Vehicle in need of a transmission re-build.

The transmission slips and jerks the car when up and downshifting between first and second gear. The car has had strong jerks when going from park or reverse to drive as well. This is a major safety concern and should be a recall with the number of complaints over the same issue.
After purchasing car from dealer with 66300 miles I drove it for roughly a week when I started to notice the transmission slipping and jerking while going from gear to gear. The car started to drive like a manual even though it was automatic. Then shifting to drive from reverse the car would kick and jerk very badly and a very heavy jerk while driving on the freeway when it goes into a different gear. I took it to a local Nissan dealer after less than 1000 miles driven after being purchased and it was determined that the transmission was broken and 2 of the engine mounts were also broken which was determined to be a result from the bad transmission. The transmission was replaced along with the 2 engine mounts. At 66k miles the transmission on the car should not give out and after reading on various sites this seems to be a common problem with this vehicle. This car is not safe and Nissan should take responsibility for putting out a unsafe vehicle that contains a bad transmission.
My car transmission is slipping when trying to accelerate and shifts hard when its does in 1 and 2nd gear and sometimes stall the car and wont move only rev for about 5 secs then jerk hard enough to make it feel like I got hit by another car.
The automatic transmission began to slip at about 63,000 miles. It continues to get worse and occasionally delays in engaging in drive especially after shifting out of reverse. From what I have read this is a common problem that Nissan refuses to address and may result in transmission failure.
Transmission is slipping.
The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Maxima. The contact stated that the transmission was flushed by a dealer and then the transmission slipped. The vehicle was returned to the dealer who stated that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 89,379.
When in low gears 1-2, 2-3 gears jerks. High rev then strong jerk. Felt like gears slipped. Car then became sluggish and would not power of 5mph. Check engine light came on. Had car checked code p0780 showed. Shift malfunction. This seems to be on going with Maxima 04-06. Recall must be called!!!!.
Vehicle hen shifting to 2nd 3rd gear jerks like a mule kick, and occasionally over revs ( gear slip) resulting in sudden loss of acceleration.
This vehicle has a problem with the way the transmission was built. My transmission is slipping gears "while driving" I can be on the highway doing 60mph and all of a sudden the gears will change and immediately "lock up" or the car automatically go to a lower speed. I have put in complaints with the maker, they are saying no recall as of yet, only the ones listed on this site for seat belts and the lower lubar switch. I took the car to several dealers and they are all saying the same thing and that is this vehicle falls under the list of poorly built transmissions. I bought the car used with 50,000 miles and is now facing a $6000 repair job??? really. I feel it is unfair a company can put out a bad seed and have no repercussions until an unfortunate event happens.
Transmission is slipping and bucking so hard that it feels as if you either hit someone or someone has hit you from behind. Causes you to lose speed and makes the cars behind you to slow down to avoid rear ending collision. When the vehicle is like this it gives you a very uneasy feeling as to what will happen next to cause you to become a hazard and put yourself and others in danger. The vehicle has gone through 2 rebuilt transmissions already this year alone and the problem is starting to resurface again.
2005 Nissan Maxima. Consumer writes in regards to transmission slipping. The consumer stated he had to drain and re-fill the transmission fluid to keep the gears from slipping.
When shifting from park to reverse or drive; or drive to reverse, the vehicle jerks and jumps before being able to advance. Gear changing is very "rough". Traveling at speeds of 30-35 mph feel the transmission slipping.
My 2005 Nissan Maxima transmission has been slipping since 75,000 miles. I have been doing alot of research and alot of other individuals with 04 and 05 Maximas are experiencing the same issues. Nissan Maxima put defected transmissions in their 04 and 05 models. I contacted Nissan USA however the refused to fix my car.
Delayed engagement between gears. The automatic transmission slips and the rpm's increase while vehicle is attempting to transition between 1-2, 2-3 & 3-4 gears. The vehicle will jerk and make a loud noise once engaged into a new gear.
The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Maxima. The contact stated that when driving at low speeds and maneuvering from first to second gear, the transmission would slip without warning. In addition, the contact stated that after shifting to reverse, there was a six second delay before the vehicle would respond. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis where they advised him that the transmission failed and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that they were unaware of the failure. The failure and current mileages were approximately 79,182.
The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Maxima. The contact stated that while driving approximately 20-30 mph, he noticed that the transmission began slipping from second to third gear. The vehicle was not inspected by a dealer or an independent mechanic. The manufacturer was contacted and offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000. The current mileage was approximately 89,500. The VIN was unavailable.
Automatic transmission shifting has become rough and abrupt. At medium speed 20-45 mph the transmission will slip, engine rpm's will surge and vehicle speed will decrease. Nissan dealer flushed transmission fluid Jan 2010 (83600 miles).
While driving, shifting from 1st to 2nd and back from 2nd to 1st gear the transmission shifted very hard, then after a while, the transmission started to slip between gear changes and now the transmission seems to be locked in 3rd gear and will not shift and revs very high and seems to slip at times. When the transmission would slip at speeds and rev high, the transmission would catch again and jerk the car sideways as if changing lanes. Very dangerous while driving on any road with cars around.
My car was under 90k miles when it experienced transmission slippage, premature clutch wear, overheating, and other problems that ultimately resulted in serious and expensive damage to my vehicles transmission.
Transmission jurking and slipping going into and out of 2nd and 3rd gear. Very hard jurking. Nissan will not replace unless I pay $3,400. Saying internal transmission problem. The transmission shop said that it was the internal valve and all these Nissan transmissions have this problem. The one he would put in for me will have this fault.
My car jerks really hard. Coming in and out of 1st and 2nd gear. Will jump after being put into drive. Takes a while to catch drive from park. Gears slip while driving down road and engine just begins to rev by itself. I see tons of the same complaints online. How do we get this obvious recurrent issue resolved without spending thousands?!?!.
The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Maxima. While driving approximately 20 mph, the vehicle began to jerk as the transmission slipped gears with a rapid increase in engine rpms. In addition, there was a burning electrical odor inside of the vehicle. The failure recurred intermittently. The contact later checked the transmission fluid and noticed that it had become abnormally dark in color. The vehicle was taken to an independent auto mechanic for diagnosis where they detected that the transmission exhibited internal damage and the transmission valve was faulty. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 111,000.
Transmission slips, jerks and goes in and out of gear while driving. Shifts hard in the lower gears after it warms up, slips and engine reving during shifts, slamming hard when slowing down, and delays when placing in gear.
When will we get a recall for the 2004 - 2005 Maxima transmissions? this is obviously a known and wide spread issue. I've found and read many many reports on these transmissions slipping in and out of gear, hard shifting (up and down), hesitating and hard jerk when placed in drive, and breaking motor mounts. Mine started this just under 100,000 miles. Most cases I've read reported this starting around 60,000 miles. Some have been fortunate enough that Nissan replaced the transmission, I hope I'm as lucky. Transmissions should be dependable and perform well beyond 100,000 miles, much less 60,000 miles. I've had faith in Nissan and was really impressed with Nissan vehicles until I discovered this epidemic issue. How many does it take to warrant and issue a recall? to protect Nissan's reputation and maintain it's customer base, I hope they support their customers in correcting this.
It started with a delay from reverse to 1st, or vice-versa, followed by a hard "thud" as the car got into gear. Then, every time the car warmed up, the transmission would slip while switching gears. Now, the car will only operate in reverse and 5th gear. So it's like driving a lawn mower. I see that hundreds of others have had this same problem and reported it on-line. Although my car was at the dealership just this weekend, and they mentioned nothing about a history with this model/year.
My vehicle transmission slips alot, from 2-3 gears while accelerating or decelerating.
Transmission began to slip in 2nd and 3rd gears marked by engine rpm spikes then hard shifts into gear in both up and down shifts. Fuel mileage as a result dropped approximately 2 mpg due to surging engine rpm. Additional problems were marked by a violent continual vibration at cruising speeds under light acceleration in 3rd and 4th gears.
Transmission starts to slip from first to second when it gets warmed up. I was reading online that Nissan made a defective transmission and is refucing to take responsability for there mistakes.
