While driving my vehicle I noticed jerking and car was not shifting gears. I then thought to have the car serviced so I did. They advised getting a transmission motor mount, but that didn't work and it sure wasn't the problem. Then I decided to have it check by two transmission specialist. They told me that this incident was very rare to happen to Nissans with the amount of miles it has. The car has approx. 79,000 miles on it. Who would have thought of buying a newer car if such a problem would occur so soon. I thought I was the only person suffering but I wasn't. So I went on had it looked at the 2nd time and they told me the car was slipping on the 2nd gear and falling out of 2nd and 3rd gear. It was said that they would have to rebuild the transmission and that hard parts weren't even covered under the estimate of a couple thousand dollars. So, I needed a second opinion and I went to another specialist and they said it was the same exact reason and the rings in the transmission could have gone bad. So where was supposed to start. . . . . . . . I feel very much so that this a manufactures error and it needs to be corrected on that end. I've heard alot of good things about Nissan but, there's a lot of doubt about the products they sell to consumers that could endanger someone or something.

The contact owns a 2004 Nissan Maxima. While driving at approximately 45 mph, the contact noticed a difficulty when shifting gears. The rpms increased and the engine revved but the vehicle would not shift gears. When the vehicle finally did shift into gear, it would jump from second gear to fifth gear. The failure occurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership but the dealer could not find the cause for failure. The contact took the vehicle to a local repair shop where the transmission was replaced. The problem continued and the vehicle was being serviced for the body valve at the time of the complaint. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000. The current mileage was approximately 82,000. The VIN was unavailable.

Transmission problems resulting in stalled vehicle while driving and does not shift gears properly which has resulted in vehicle delays while trying to cross lanes of traffic.
Vehicle was purchased with 69,000 miles and was in good condition, owned for eight months and driven lightly. Transmission intermittently jerks when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear and also from 2nd to 1st. Occasionally revs when up shifting then shifts with a bang and jerk. When problems occur, the manu-matic mode displays 's' instead of what gear you're in like it is supposed to, and will not shift gears manually in this mode. Vehicle was taken to dealership where it was purchased and they eventually replaced the transmission with a rebuilt transmission. Rebuilt transmission lasted less than six months before exhibiting the same problems.
My transmission on my Nissan 2004 Maxima went. I will not change gears. For a car that is 5 years old this should not happen. I had cars that are older and that don't fail like this one does.
I have a 2004 Nissan Maxima se. I bought my car used with 98,000 miles on it. For the first year it was great but then it just started going down hill. When I would slow down a little bit to about 10 mph and then press on the gas the car would buck. When I would go in reverse and stop and put it in drive the would not go into gear for about 5 seconds and when it would finally go into gear it would make the car buck. Then things just kept getting worse and worse. The car would buck in every up-shift and every down shift. Finally the other day I was driving and it wouldn't even hit 3rd gear the engine would just rev up and then bang into gear. Now the other day it wont even go into 3rd gear it will just rev until I manually put it into 3rd. The reason I am putting this complaint in is because I have been looking for a new transmission on online forums and basically everyone with the same car is having the same exact problems!! please make something happen with this. It has to be a factory defect.

The contact owns a 2004 Nissan Maxima. While driving approximately 35-40 mph on normal road conditions, the contact applied pressure to the accelerator pedal and the vehicle hesitated. The transmission began to slip intermittently. In addition, whenever the brake pedal was depressed, the engine would rev excessively high and fail to change gears. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing, but the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle has not been repaired. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 72,000 and current mileage was 72,500.
Our 04 Nissan Maxima se was purchased at 23k miles from dealership and we purchased the extended warranty for coverage up to 80k. It seems that right at 82k we started experiencing transmission issues that were extremely noticeable -I can say that right around 60k we had slight transmission concerns but the dealership did diagnose as such, although my wife strongly suggested to them that it seemed like something was wrong with the transmission and gears jerking/shifting. Now, at 98k our transmission has gone out -the car does not shift into gears at all and my wife was stranded on the highway in connecticut (we live in new jersey) when she experienced this -no warning except for the engine light coming on and car's rpm revving up to 5 & 6, she exited to let car cool down and it would not move into any gear once restarted. We really feel that Nissan is aware of this defective transmission and is refusing to stand behind their substandard product!.
The contact owns 2005 Nissan Maxima. The transmission failed when the gear was shifted from park to drive and slipped into third or fourth gear. The vehicle was taken to the dealer numerous times for the failure. The dealer stated that it could have been a miscommunication with the computerized system. None of the parts were replaced. The manufacturer stated that they would not assist with the repairs. The VIN information wasn't available. The failure mileage was 62,000 and the current mileage was 72,000.
The contact owns a 2004 Nissan Maxima. The contact stated when the accelerator pedal was engaged after the vehicle stopped it would jerk and would not shift into gear. While driving approximately 5 mph the vehicle wouldn't accelerate to a higher speed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they advised her that she needed to replace the transmission due to the first and second gear having issues. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and was waiting for a response. The failure mileage was approximately 3,600.
While driving transmission will not shift into gear. Consumer had to stop to allow transmission to shift again, and sometimes engine will stall without prior warning, consumer could step on brake pedal, but the engine will suddenly accelerate, it was impossible for consumer to keep control of vehicle.
