Airbag warning light on dashboard started blinking and will not stop. Took 2009 Murano to dealership and was told the airbag sensors was malfunctioning and I would have to replace my entire passenger seat to fix it, at a cost of over $5,000. The make, model and year of my vehicle is included in the NHTSA campaign 08v521000, which highlights this identical problem yet my VIN is not included in the recall. How can this be? Nissan should cover this severe safety failure that is happening to a lot of 2009 Muranos. Vehicle has never been in an accident and has about 80,000 miles. Vehicle no longer feels safe to drive and repair cost is prohibitively high.
I took my 2010 Nissan Murano le awd to maus Nissan of new port richey, FL because the passenger side airbag warning light was flashing. This well maintained, garage kept vehicle with 74500 miles, 95% of service/maintenance done by Nissan, was in pristine condition, single driver,no accidents, and rarely even a passenger. When I returned 3 days later, I was told the light was still flashing even though they replaced the "k88201aaoe sensor side airbag center". I was billed $1840. 81 for this repair that did not fix the problem. I was then told the diagnostics said they needed to replace the "seat occupant sensor" for an additional $4210. 81 because the part was integrated into the front passenger seat so the whole front passenger seat had to be replaced! I was then advised to call Nissan's corporate customer care at 1 800 Nissan1. My maus service consultant said she had seen customers with "130000 miles and a blown transmission" and customer care had covered the repair. She also said that they would likely reimburse my $1840. 81 since the repair did not resolve the issue. I called customer care and detailed my situation. A week later they called to tell me that my request had been denied. I reached out to maus Nissan via their facebook and web pages as well as a yelp and google reviews. Attached are copies of my invoice, additional repair estimate and the only non automated reply from with maus Nissan.

2010 Nissan Murano, (purch 11/30/2009) I have a passenger air bag safety concern! (case # 37896824) the red air bag warning light is flashing! (while driving at all speeds and while idling) & the front passenger seat air bag warning light (yellow), remains on - indicates front passenger air bag is off! took Murano to Nissan service center, tech did diagnostic test - got a code b1018 OCS is malfunctioning. Tech cleared code, to turn off the red flashing airbag light & said if red light starts flashing again, come back to service dept. 1st step to fix would be replace front pssngr seat acu assembly. (verbally was told they may have to replace the front passenger seat cushion). Red light flashing again the next day, drove it for 2 weeks to see if that would recalibrate red flashing light, was still flashing after 2 wks, returned to Nissan service dept on 10/29/19. Said need to replace the front passenger cushion, (the OCS for air bag is in cushion) & possibly an acu! I see, Murano has had several passenger air bag recalls: the 2009 Murano: recall # 08v521000 - safety issue - the OCS control unit located in font passenger seat cushion, could cause interruption of signal between OCS & acu - suppressed air bag could fail to provide adequate protection in a crash. Recall # 08v066000 - safety issue - due to incorrect software programming- the acu may cause passenger air bag to not operate as designed if battery becomes significantly discharged - resulting in passenger air bag not to operate as designed. 2013 - 2015 Murano recall - safety issue - front pssngr OCS component may incorrectly classify adult as a child or that seat is empty despite occupied - front pssngr air bag may be turned off & not deploy in a crash! * I see a lot of similarities in the past recall descriptions with what is occurring to my 2010 Nissan Murano passenger seat. Thank you! ## #vpic# 1 - check digit (9th position) does not calculate properly #vpic#.
Air bag warning light started flashing and does not go off. Dealer (lancaster Nissan) tested the vehicle and stated that sensor or seat sensor could be bad. They were able to turn off warning light, but it started again the next time I drove the car. Estimates to replace sensor ($1,500) and seat sensor ($4,500) seem extremely high. Vehicle has only 39,000 miles and was purchased new. Dealer stated there is no open recall despite research showing 100's of 2009 Muranos with the same issue and a prior recall on earlier Muranos and Infiniti's - clearly the same manufacturing defect. Have not taken an action to repair at this point,.
Airbag warning light suddenly stayed on flashing. There has never been any accident. Low miles and rarely a passenger in the car. Nissan dealer checked and determined it was the passenger sensor. They replaced the sensor and light remained. They then said they had to replace the entire passenger seat bottom to fix the issue. ~$3,700 later and it is fixed.
Update to previous NHTSA complaint #11078866. The cost to repair my car was over$5000 and could not justify the expense. After living with the faulty sensor for almost 2 years, it's time to replace the vehicle. I hoped for a recall to be issued but nothing yet. To trade in or sell this vehicle, it's obvious due to warning light on dash that there is a problem with airbags. I need to discount my vehicle value or repair this. After some inquiry, I've discovered that my part is now replaced by part number 873a2-3zg6a. This part is the replacement for model years 2011-2014 in all trim levels s, sv, sl, le. It is the entire passenger bottom seat and costs $3700 or more plus labor=over $5000 to fix. Even if I could afford to fix this issue, there are no parts available in the USA according to sutherlin Nissan of ft. Pierce FL. There is an apparent back order with no parts availability. To correct a seemingly similar part on a 2015 Murano might require 2 parts totalling perhaps $340 and appropriate labor this total should be significantly less than the quote to repair my vehicle. An online search of suggested Nissan Murano repairs for the passenger occupant classification sensor was about $300, quite a contrast to my anticipated repair expense. This is a known issue for Muranos and previous models have been recalled for this. I bought a Nissan certified used car, then added a gold level service plan to cover bumper to bumper and yet the airbag system and components are specifically excluded. This is a required safety device. Its failure has made my vehicle worthless, based on potential trade offers. I assume Nissan USA lost lots of money on the previous sensor recall campaign, and now they hope to recover some of those losses by passing that expense on unsuspecting customers. I think Nissan USA realizes this as a major problem and are attempting to conceal this fault.

1) airbag light alarm for passenger seat goes on suddently after 80,000 miles. After dealer inspection, seems to be related to the occupant classification system (OCS) varistor located in the front passenger seat cushion, as mentioned in your ntb08-095 November 4, 2008 recall campaign. Found it strange my vehicule VIN is not associated to this complaint, but I have the problem. 2) alternator suddently died after 80,000 miles without warning, while driving on the highway. Had time to pull on the side, but situation could have been dramatic. Suddently vehicule reduced speed and went from 60mph to 10mph, then no more battery, so could not light the warning lights. Very dangerous situation. Problem have been reported for many Murano different years, recalls were done for 2005 or 2008 Murano but none for 2009. A $1300 bill at the Nissan dealership. 3) got airbag light alarm for passenger seat right after alternator problem.
Passenger seat warning light is on all the time.
Passenger side airbag sensor in seat faulty. This has been an issue on other models and it is now an issue on mine. Indicator light "passenger airbag off" on constantly. Warning light on dash constantly flashing.

Air bag warning light began flashing. Indicator light under heating/air condition panel indicated bag off on passenger side. Diagnostic scan requested from dealer revealed that "occupant sensor unit failed. " "recommended replacement of passsenger air bag system and sensors at a cost of $3,563. 13. " Nissan consumer affairs twice rejected my request for financial support for repair, "because it was not listed in the campaign" (recall list). Mileage was 69,772.

Passenger side air bag "off" light is on. Air bag warning light is blinking on and off. Dealer says the passenger seat cushion has failed. Nissan will not help as the car is out of warranty! the car had 30748 miles on it on 11/11/15 when the failure occurred, this happens moving or not and with passenger or not.
Vehicle warning light indicates that the passenger air bag is off with an adult in the seat. Passenger must move around in the seat to find a spot that turns the warning light off. Sometimes the passenger must leave the vehicle and re-enter the seat to get the light off. Even when the light goes out we are not sure the air bag would deploy.
The air bag warning light came on and has been blinking since. I have researched the issue and find that this is common with the 2009 Nissan Murano. Nissan refuses to fix the issue under recall. This is not covered with the warranty on the vehicle. Most are caused by a sensor under the passenger seat and the entire seat must be replaced. The cost is between 2500 and 3000 dollars. This warning light blinking indicates the system will not work correctly should I get into an accident. Please help Murano owners get this fixed with out having to pay such outrageous prices.
Drivers side airbag has been repaired three times according to Nissan tech specs and the airbag system warning light remains on. Nissan na told me they know some Muranos have this problem but they are not able to fix it.

The steering column is stuck and the motor and gears failed. This has been listed more than 100 times on the internet in various blogs. Turns out the automatic adjustment each time you get in and out of the car kills the motor and gears and is actually addressed in a service bulletin ntb-09-073 having this happen also affected the air bag and the warning light is now on.
The vehicle has shown problems that were previously recalled including tire monitoring system, passenger air bag warning light remains lit, and rear hatch fails to function. More recently the vehicle fails to start and has strong smell of gas. The fuel pump was replace by a certified mechanic but the problem persists, failure to start or run. In addition, the battery has drained even after being checked and recharged, clearly an electrical problem. The VIN number search shows no recall notices,.
Supplemental air bag warning light will not turn off, also passenger air bag status light remains lit even with adult riding in passenger seat. Air bag safety should not fail on a car ever. Tpms light will not turn off with tires inflated at proper pressure.

Dashboard air bag warning light began flashing. Subsequent trip to the dealer diagnosed a defective passenger seat sensor, which is built in to the seat bottom, so the entire unit must be replaced. Although I had purchased an extended warranty, that part was not covered and the seat bottom must be replaced as it is a safety issue. Forwarded a request for assistance to Nissan USA, and the jury is still out on that move. There have been very few passengers in that automobile, with the great majority of the miles on the car being driver only miles.

Passenger side, airbag warning light. According to the Nissan manual, the passenger side air bag light will alert the passenger when the air bag is not functioning. They advise that when this happens, the auto should immediately be brought to the dealer. I am experiencing this problem with my auto and have notified both Nissan (file 670 4193) and barron Nissan. As of today, both have failed to advise how this can be corrected. I am aware that in 2009, Nissan had a recall (#08v521000) for their passenger side air bag light on the Murano. Updated 03/12/10.
