1 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem

Failure Date: 09/09/2014

I was driving to work traveling on the highway going approximately 65 mph when the truck started to over heat and the transmission started to slip out of over drive. I pulled off the highway and stopped at an auto parts store. I pulled the transmission dip stick. It was milky. I also found the coolant overflow was bubbling out a mix of milky fluids. I had the car towed to a local garage and they explained the issue. The radiator had failed and blew apart inside, which created an issue with the transmission line inside the radiator. The coolant mixed with the transmission fluid. The garage replaced the radiator and flushed the transmission fluid. This cost me $650. The transmission wasn't right from this point on. A few months later the same thing happened. I have replaced the radiator this time myself and took it to the garage to have the transmission flushed. At this point the transmission slips into every gear and will continuously slip if its in overdrive. The car is un drivable and has been sitting in my driveway for almost a year now. Transmissions for this car are over $2500 and I just cant afford to put one into it.

2 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem

Failure Date: 01/18/2012

My wife was driving my 8th grade son and his basketball team to middle school game. She was on the freeway going 65 mph, when she felt the car jerk and then start to lose speed, the engine was still running but the car had slipped out of gear. She had no power and luckily she had room to coast to the shoulder. We took the car to the dealer the next day they diagnosed the problem as transmission failure due to radiator fluid in the transmission. We replaced the the radiator and coolant lines and flushed the transmission, and it ran fine for a few months. But the check engine light came back on last month, we took it in and now they tell us that we have to replace the transmission. Please investigate this issue with the Nissan Pathfinder, frontier and xterra. It seems to be more and more of a common issue with Nissan owners and Nissan is not doing anything to repair this very serious and costly problem. I just got an estimate on Tuesday (9/4/12) for $9459. 00 worth of repairs to the transmission and the radiator. I bought the car new from Nissan, and it now has 110,502 miles.
