1 Auxillary Tank problem of the 2008 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 07/15/2013

Starting last summer we initially noticed a problem with our gas gauge reading, but it seemed to go away. It is now happening frequently and almost caused an accident. We were in heavy traffic on a 4 lane and we thought we had enough gas, 1/4 tank?, but all of a sudden we ran out of gas. We were lucky that we were not hit by a semi truck. We fortunately were able to push it to the side of the road and wait for my son to come with a can of gas. We called dorschel Nissan in rochester and they agreed that it was a recall, we had went on your site and checked prior (10v075000). We scheduled an appointment. Now we received a call from them telling us that it is not covered, that it was a warranty extension item and that we are past the date?? wow, what customer service. I think this is a safety issue and that this is not a normal wear and tear item. They obviously have had problems with these sensors (80,000 recalls?) now the gas gauge is doing other things, saying we don't have any gas when we just filled up?.

2 Auxillary Tank problem of the 2005 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 02/01/2013

2005 Nissan Pathfinder. Consumer writes in regards to technical service bulletin recommended that fuel level sending unit be replaced and requests assistance for repairs. The consumer stated he took the vehicle to the dealer, because the instrument panel fuel gauge was giving an incorrect reading. He explained to the dealer, the instrument panel showed the vehicle had approximately one-quarter tank of fuel, when in fact the fuel tank was empty and the service engine light had illuminated. He also pointed out to the mechanic, that due to the inaccuracy and erratic movement of the fuel gauge reading, it could stall, at any time a resent an unsafe condition of the vehicle and compromise the life and safety of his passengers. After a careful review was conducted by the Nissan technician, it was determined that the problem was due to the fuel sending unit malfunctioning, which was discovered earlier by Nissan, in which a technical service bulletin was issued. Nissan denied the consumers request to have the fuel sending unit replaced free of charge, because the vehicle was outside of the new vehicle limited warranty. The consumer stated Nissan has since issued a safety recall regarding the fuel sending unit and extended the primary warranty.

4 Auxillary Tank problem of the 2008 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 07/27/2012

Nhtsa campaign id number: 10v075000 covers a defective fuel sending unit/gauge on 2008 Nissan Pathfinders resulting in the fuel gauge overstating the fuel level by 1/4 tank. I have a 2008 Nissan Pathfinder (VIN# [xxx]) experiencing this exact issue with the fuel gauge, yet Nissan is claiming my vehicle is not covered by the recall. If 1 manufacturing plant produced vehicles with this issue it stand to reason that another plant using the exact same parts would also produce vehicles with the same problem as evidenced by the fact that my vehicle from another manufacturing plant does indeed have the problem.

6 Auxillary Tank problem of the 2006 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 04/02/2012

Known issue with fuel system (NHTSA id # 10v075000) Nissan acknowledges problems but put mileage limit on dealer paid repair. (approximately 1300 miles over) apparently defective manufacture issues have time limits regardless of safety issue associated with this. Intermittent problems caused delays in identifying this issue. This is a major safety issue that should not have been timetabled, inaccurate and then failure of the fuel gauge. This is a failure of both Nissan and the NHTSA to allow mileage to be the determining factor in limiting our safety.

18 Auxillary Tank problem of the 2008 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 06/15/2010

Nhtsa campaign id number 10v075000 fuel sending unit failure. Incident outline: I was driving on the 2 lane portion of the trans-canada highway #1 west of chilliwack and had fueled up about two hours earlier. I watched the fuel gauge, mpg and dte readings to roughly estimate the amount of fuel remaining and the range to be expected from the remaining fuel, when the gauges were actually working for a brief time. The fuel gauge had seemingly properly shown the dte and fuel level but at +/- 5/8 of a tank it dropped to zero and the dte readings went flat line. This has become a usual situation with the fuel gauge issue and my estimates were that I had sufficient fuel to reach the next gas station pullout from the freeway but I was terribly wrong. I was pulling a trailer and had my wife, son and his friend with me returning from a weekend at our cabin. We were traveling @ +/- 60 mph in the fast lane as there was slower traffic in the curb lane when the truck?s engine stopped, I was out of fuel! I quickly assessed the options, put my right hand turn signal on and starting easing into the curb lane displacing the vehicle beside me. I was able to maneuver the truck into the curb lane under the momentum it had without incident but not without tremendous stress and 2 near misses with other vehicles. Eventually I coasted onto the shoulder of the highway and came to a stop safely without power. It was extremely close and a scenario I do not want to see played out again. Nissan has declined this request and shown moral contempt for a problem that I have demonstrated through , telephone conversations, images and text.

19 Auxillary Tank problem of the 2005 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 06/15/2010

The molded fuel tank shell has deformed, causing the fuel sender float arm to contact an embossment molded into the tank shell causing the instrument panel fuel gauge to show that the vehicle has approximately one quarter tank when the fuel tank is empty. This could cause the vehicle to run out of gas and stall in traffic, increasing the risk of a crash. This is the same condition and parts that are on the 2006 Pathfinder. Nissan issued a recall to replace the fuel level sending unit inside the fuel tank with a new one that has a modified float arm. On the 2006 and 2008 year models of Pathfinder but not the 2005. The recall notice issued was NHTSA campaign id 10v075000. How can this condition be acceptable for the 2005 model and considered unsafe for later year models?.

25 Auxillary Tank problem of the 2006 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 04/30/2010

There was a recall issued March 3, 2010 by Nissan for my 2006 Nissan Pathfinder to replace a defective fuel level sending unit. When I attempted to get my fuel level sensor replaced at their woodbury NJ Nissan dealership in April 2010, because of a failure of the sensor, I was advised that my vehicle was not covered under the recall and that I would have to pay for the repair. I desperately needed the repair because I no longer had any dash speed or fuel level readout and I could not financially afford the dealership estimated charge for the fuel level sensor replacement. I was forced to seek a less expensive repair shop to complete the repair so I could continue to safely drive my vehicle. The sensor unit was replaced April 30, 2010 by a local repair shop at a cost to me of $291. 00. Unfortunately, the Nissan dealership refused to do the free fuel level sending unit replacement that I was entitled to under their March, 2010 recall of over 80,000 2006 Pathfinders. There was no logical explanation given by the woodbury dealership for the refusal to do the free replacement of the defective part. I sent an appeal letter to Nissan corporate may 2010 requesting reimbursement and they ignored the recall issue and sent me a form letter saying my vehicle was out of warranty and declining my request for assistance. Updated ivoq 09/08/jb.

27 Auxillary Tank problem of the 2006 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 04/14/2010

National headquarters consumers affairs department: 10/10/10 in the past few months beginning may 2010 have been attempting to communicate with the Nissan rep. For the northern region. I was recently informed by rep in sept 2010 that Nissan refused my request for assistance in replacing the catalytic converter in my 2006 Nissan Pathfinder that currently, as of sept 24, 2010 has 86,000 miles. You see back in April 14, 2010 I was informed by nalley Nissan of decatur GA. That I needed to have the catalytic converter replaced on my 2006 Pathfinder, and that they could do the job for $1,200 -$1,500 at the time my vehicle had approximately 80,000 miles or less yet when I had work done at nalley Nissan on April 14, 2010 the mileage was documented as by nalley Nissan as being 125,000 in an attempt as not to repair my vehicle under the manufactures warranty free of cost. On may 24, 2010 I had a second opinion done as well as some repair work done and at this time 1 month later my car read 81,254 miles reading on the odometer knowing all of this had transpired the Nissan rep informed me that Nissan would not replace or assist in getting this matter taken care of. Is it common that the converter should have to be replaced in a car so new. As well as the records being falsified so my vehicle would not qualify for replacement of the converter. It is virtually impossible to have had 125,000 miles on 4/15/10, and 81,254 miles on 5/24/10 not to mention that as of sept 24, 2010 my reading is 86,000 miles. Also, I have been informed that a code for the gas sensor is being displayed, the fuel reading says empty yet I have just put $45. 00 worth of gas in the tank also these parts would not be kept in stock if not for frequent replacement of said parts. I have copies of both receipts showing this to be a fact . Vehicle id # awaiting your response updated ivoq 11/19/10.
