I request that the dot NHTSA investigate manufacturer defects in 2007 Nissan Pathfinders cooling system and transmission as unexpected failure relates to driver safety. My 2007 Pathfinder with 90,000 miles caused a major collision with a deer as the transmission began to fail. Driving home, at around 40mph, up a hill (engine under load @ 2,200-2,500 rpm) the whole car began suddenly to "shudder"- similar to the feeling/ sound of riding over highway rumble strips. This resulted in a loss of control over the speed of the vehicle and a noticeable distraction leaving me unprepared as a large buck ran out from the tree line attempting to cross the road- the buck did not make it across. As I have found in my research afterwards, there is a widely known manufacturer defect in which engine coolant mixes with transmission fluid. The resulting "goop" shreds the internal parts of the transmission rendering it (along with the radiator and components) completely useless. These vehicles are unsafe for the roadways as this problem occurs suddenly and unexpectedly without warning. I consider myself lucky for being alive- now, but since Nissan nor any other organization is willing to recall or replace this vehicle/ affected parts, I am stuck, forced to drive on the road being a hazard to others and myself.

2006 Nissan Pathfinder. Consumer writes in regards to fuel sending unit recall notice. The consumer was informed his VIN was not included in the recall.
After filling the vehicle up with gas-the fuel gauge dropped to empty and check engine light came on. When I checked the distance to empty on fuel gauge it showed blanks. As I began to drive the distance to empty started to increase but the fuel gauge never moved to the full position as it should have been. Upon stopping and turning the engine off the fuel gauge finally moved into the full position. The owners manual said to drive the vehicle several times and the check engine light should go off but has not. Took the vehicle to oreillys and had them run a diagnostic test on it and it showed to be the fuel level sensor was bad. The fuel gauge is still not working and this is only one of many problems that I have had with this vehicle. Recently had to have transmission replaced and u joints several times. The Nissan Pathfinder is a lemon and Nissan refuses to work with their customers. I suggest that no one buy a Nissan product. The company is a joke and will try to get out of warranty work and get every penny out of you that they can.

I had complained to trophy Nissan, progressive insurance, wells fargo, and platinum collision about the very problem that I just received a recall about. My complaints were treated as not having merit. I had specifically described the seemingly loss of control on pavement that was slightly rough. I also asserted that when I applied brakes the Pathfinder seemed to lunge forward. In this accident I was the interstate near downtown dallas moving one lane to my left as traffic slowed and stopped. I was aware of the slowing traffic and I reacted accordingly. As traffic actually stopped I recall not being overly concerned that I was a safe stopping distance but when I applied the brake my Pathfinder seemed to lunge forward and I struck the rear of the vehicle in front of me. I again stated my concerns after the fact and was not deemed accurate. The Pathfinder spent 2 months in the shop waiting on parts and my insurance premium doubled. I refused to pay the elevated premium because I simply did not have it and I did not make any payments on the Pathfinder to wells fargo during the 2 months and the Pathfinder has subsequently been repossessed do I have actionable recourse?? what's next with this complaint?? I tried in vain to get progressive to recognize a diminished value claim. This could have saved me money and my car as the wreck was truly not my fault but it was ruled my fault because I was the rear vehicle and texas has no diminished value for insured being at fault. Tried in vain to get wells fargo to help me but all parties were scared to death of progressive insurance with the exception of platinum collision. Their only standing in this case is as the body shop approved by progressive.

The night of Saturday January 19th, 2013, one month and a half after I purchased my "new 2013 Nissan Pathfinder," it was it!!! I though that we were putting the wrong type of gas in it, but no!!! we had enough of this "running out of gas movement" from a $40,000 vehicle with one of the best marketing promotions. I took it to the dealership on the 21st of January, and the only response from general management was " OH!. . . We are so sorry, but we don't know what it's going on here. . . It looks like a transmission module, but wait. . . No, that's not it. . . We are incompetent!!! so. . . Here I am, paying for a loan with a broke brand new SUV in the shop with a safety stall hazard!. . . Did I forget to mention that's a family car!!!!.
The fuel gauge sensor has gone up in my truck. It happened in December 2012. I cannot tell whether I have gas in the truck or not. I have been unable to get this problem fixed as I cannot afford the repair. I have noticed that other 2005 Pathfinder owners have had the same issue.
My wife was driving to a road, for charity, while getting on the highway, the car would not go forward, the more you gave it gas the car took off like a rocket. I took the car out for a test ride, the same thing happen,at the stop sign the car would raveup. And take off like a . Rocket. Took it to the dealership. The dealership told me it is going to cost a lot to fit this problem.
I own a 2006 Nissan Pathfinder, first my fuel sensor failed, and now at approx 92,000 miles my vehicle has this horrible vibration at 45mph and 60 mph. After thinking it was my tires off balance and having them serviced and an alignment done, I decided to do some research online and called my Nissan service dept. To my surprise this is a very common problem with this vehicle and it is a problem with the transmission and radiator fluids mixing, causing the tranny to fail. If this is not a major safety concern I am not sure what is. Please review, it will cost the consumer approx $8,000 to fix and not to mention the inconvenience. If this were an isolated incident I would not complain, but there are a massive amount of complaints. I even contacted Nissan corp. And after 3 weeks I am still waiting on a return call. I do highway driving and have 3 children in my vehicle daily. This is a major concern.
The vehicle has faulty fuel gauge sensor which seems to be a very very common problem and I contacted Nissan consumer affairs and they said that I must pay that out of pocket. I researched online and found out that not only does the Pathfinder have the problem but so does the xtera. Nissan is very well aware of the problem and so they should fix it.
The contact owns a 2007 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated that the fuel gauge failed and was not providing the correct fuel level readings. The service engine light was also illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the failure was located at the fuel sending unit. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer took a complaint from the contact and denied any assistance with the repair. The failure mileage was 74,000 and current mileage was 74,250.
The engine light of my 2007 Nissan Pathfinder came on and also the fuel gauge on the panel stopped working.
On Tuesday Feb 14, 2012 I took my car in cause it had a recall for the gas gauge not reading gas level. My car was reading check engine soon, car was working perfect they put the computer on and nothing came up as the car having anything wrong with it. Even the check engine light had turned off. On Friday Feb 17, 2012 while driving in the middle of the highway my car completely turned off and would not start at all I had someone help me push the car to the side of the road, where then I finally got it to start again. Called Nissan and they told me they can send a tow truck to bring it into the dealer but if has nothing to do with the work that was done I have to be responsible for the tow. The person at the dealer that I spoke to said that according to the information I was giving him of the problem it may have something to do with the work but he couldn't be sure. On sat Feb 18, 2012 I took my car into the dealer, now they tell me that all of a sudden the cracker system of the car was bad because when they changed the fuel gauge there's more electricity is going in and that was the problem I had to pay 300. 46 for something that I was not told could happen if I fixed something that wasn't given me any real problems before. Now the car is saying check engine soon again and the truth is I'm afraid to take it back to the dealer. I've had that car for 6 years never, ever had a problem with the car I take it to the dealer and now different things are coming up.
My 2005 Nissan Pathfinder engine service light came on and was told by auto zone it was the fuel sensor and could only be fixed by Nissan as they did not have parts. Nissan wants between 500 to 700 dollars to fix the problem. After research, I found this to be a rampant problem. Why hasn't Nissan issued a recall to fix the problem? is it designed to increase their revenue? what can be done to have this fixed by Nissan at their expense? this could be a huge safety issue if you run out of gas on a busy freeway.
Fuel sending unit was replaced. Gauge was not reading fuel level before replacement. Work has been performed outside of dealer. Requesting reimbursement.
Noticed that fuel and oil pressure gauges would not register fuel or oil levels correctly, the miles till empty will not work. We have no idea when we are going to run out of fuel, started getting worse, than notice the check engine light came on, had vehicle diagnose, turned out that both the fuel and oil pressure sending units needed to be replaced, there are numerous Pathfinders with the same problem but there are no recalls on these issues. This repair is very costly and is dangerous to be driving without the fuel and oil sending units. Why are there no recalls? please help!.
The check engine light stays on the car. Also, the fuel delivery system has become a significant hazard in the car. The Pathfinder's gasoline gauge indicates that it is half full, but suddenly the yellow light comes on to indicate the car is empty. This is a significant hazard while on the highway and there are times where a gas station may not be easily accessible.
Approximately 2 mo ago, the check engine light came on. I took it to my mechanic and was told that there was a failure within the fuel system. He said I would have to replace the entire system which would cost approximately $800 for the part and labor. He looked further into the issue since I told him that I don't actually notice a problem with my fuel gauge. I also did some research on my own and have discovered, like him, that many people are having the same problem as me. Some people actually do have errors with their fuel gauge and other don't, however the resulting issue has to do with a malfunction of the fuel system which is causing the problem. Nissan is well aware of the issue and there is a recall for certain 2006 and 2008 xterra and Pathfinder vehicles. When I contacted the Nissan #800, I was told that my VIN does not qualify for any recalls---in spite of the company knowing about the issue, issuing a recall for the issue on the same year and model of my vehicle and my experiencing that exact issue. My family has been hit very hard by this economy like everyone else. I do not have $800 to pay to have an item fixed that is not my fault or normal maintenance but the fault of the manufacturing company. I also have 4 children that I transport using this vehicle. I worry that there might actually be or there will be something wrong with the fuel gauge and in that situation, my children and myself could be involved in an accident or stranded in the middle of no where. If the company is aware of an existing malfunction in their vehicle and thousands of people have complained about it, they should cover all necessary costs to fix the problem. Period. I hope that they will do what is right with your help.
The service engine light stays on and fuel gauge marks empty after I fill up vehicle with gas. 2007 Nissan Pathfinder.
2007 nissaan Pathfinder. Fuel gauge inaccuracy and "service engine light" remains on. Dealers quoted us $500 problem not fixed.
The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated that the fuel gauge stopped functioning. The vehicle was not taken to have the failure diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 70,000.
My vehicle has two recalls on it - first one is the gas neck recall and the second is the strut housing causing steering problems. I took my vehicle in on may 2nd, 2011 to bergstrom/Nissan in oshkosh. They checked out my vehicle and said that my vehicle has the problems regarding both recalls. It is September 8th, 2011 and they still have my vehicle. They called me this morning and told me that they braced up the front. Things should be good but that they took it for a drive and it is still all over the road. They also said that the part for the gas neck recall is on back order. They told me to come and pick up the vehicle. If they took it for a drive and it still is all over the road and there is still a problem with the steering - then I don't think it is safe and that they must not have done a good enough job fixing the problem. I don't want to drive an unsafe vehicle until they have corrected the problem.

My 2007 Pathfinder has service engine soon light on from a failure with the fuel sending unit. . Read more...
20005 Nissan Pathfinder ses light comes on and fuel gauge does not show correct amount after refueling. This seems to be a problem with all 2005 cars and should be corrected by recall to ensure no one over fills and spills gas.
This car has had one issue after another. My fuel sensor went out, had a recall on the relay (was stalling as I was driving), had my transmission and radiator mix fluid and cause both to fail and my catalytic converters are defective. I need the catalytic to be changed so I can pass a smog check. . . It has been such a pain, expense and concern for safety. When is Nissan going to realize that they made faulty vehicles? do people have to have horrific accidents before they do anything about it ? I paid good money, hard earned money for this vehicle, brand new. The costs to repair are ridiculous. My husband has a car older than me, more wear and tear and has never had an issue. The catalytic issue needs to be fixed before it kills the motor and makes it a useless box. To me, Nissan doesn't care about its customers or their safety. The relay and transmission issues almost caused us huge accidents. Without quick thinking and quick reflexes we could have been seriously hurt. Something needs to be done !!! thank you for your assistance.
2005 Nissan Pathfinder. Consumer writes in regards to a ecm relay, sensor and fuel standing unit. Consumer states there should not be a charge for replacement of a defective or malfunctioning unit.
Timing chain and fuel sending unit on 2005 Pathfinder is defective. While the maunufacturer recognizes this as an ongoing problem, they are only willing to cover those vehicles up to 72,000 miles. A claim was filed and rejected on both problems as my vehicle has 82,000 miles.
I have a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder 4x4 se off road with 115,000 miles . Beautiful vehicle but beginning to have problems the fuel guage will go to empty when full , also having hesitation about 40 miles an hour . I read about the horror story with radiator problem causing transmission problem . I have an appointment at a Nissan dealer this weekend for the recall on the ecm so I will have further info on the hesitation , Nissan recalled the fuel gauge problem but limited to 72,000 miles vehicle only ,I think they should up hold the Nissan rep and take care of these problems also the transmission problems due to faulty parts . These problems are not normal wear and tear .
