6 Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem of the 2001 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 08/05/2010

A strong odor of gasoline is present after filling up and lasts until the tank is approximately 3/4 full. This problem began 2 weeks ago. It occurs every time the tank is filled. The problem has not been corrected. The NHTSA website indicated that a recall was issued in 2007 for this problem. The manufacturer's report date is 9-12-07. The vehicle is a 2001 Nissan Pathfinder and was originally sold in new york. I am the second owner and purchased the vehicle in 2004 in north carolina. Consequences of the defect are possible gasoline fire and total destruction of the vehicle and death of all passengers. The vehicle is parked and will not be driven until the dealer honors the recall. So far all conversations with the dealer and Nissan have been fruitless, and both parties declare the vehicle has no outstanding recalls and they will not honor the NHTSA recall because they have no record of any such recall. When I pushed them with the information on the NHTSA id number for the recall, their response was "the NHTSA does not own Nissan. " the NHTSA id number is 07v435000.

9 Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem of the 2005 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 12/15/2009

2005 Nissan Pathfinder about 2, 5 years ago, my fuel gauge read 1/2 full or all empty and check engine light was on. Changing oil reset light initially, but it came back on. Short time later car failed safety inspection because of gauge and light. Car mechanic replaced sending unit, fuel pump and filter. Said pump needed to be replaced in order to replace sending unit. Dec/09 car failed to start. Gauge read 1/2 full. Mechanic said fuel filter failed, but pump had to be replaced since filter is inside pump. Jan30,2010. As I write this my tank reads half full and the car won't start. It is doing the same thing it did the last time. Being stranded because of a failed fuel pump/filter/ gauge/sending unit is dangerous. I can trust that a part (that is supposed to last the life of the vehicle) isn't going to fail me. I would add over the last several months, despite appropriate servicing and maintenance, (even replaced tires) my fuel consumption has become very poor. The issues are somehow connected. . 11 Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem of the 1998 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 01/28/2009

Nissan Pathfinder recall 07v-435 r0705 fuel filler tube and fuel leakage. In January while driving from colorado through wyoming our car started puttering and died on busy route 80 in coopers cove outside of laramie, wy at 9:30 pm in a major snow storm. Roads were covered in rock salt and we were lucky to pull over to shoulder where we remained for 2 hours. My 2 daughters were there, one of whom had no coat as we did not expect to be heading north. Temperature was -27. We were pretrified and I kept the light on in car so trucks could see us. Two hours later the police arrived and we were towed 40 miles to a Nissan dealer. Our car remained there for 3 days. Now I know why we were put in harms way. We were lucky to pull over as the road conditions definitely affected the car dying. I have the bill from mccarty Nissan and the motels. I hope that we will be sufficiently reimbursed and that this does not happen to others. It was the most frightening experience for my family but thank god we were safe. My daughter became ill from the -27 degree weather and our motel room which had no heat and had to cut her trip short and return home early leaving from the colorado springs airport when our vehicle was repaired. Reimbursement for our repairs and inconvenience would be appreciated. Updated 05/13/09.

16 Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem of the 1997 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 11/30/2007

In the last 12 months, I have noticed more and more, the smell of gas fumes near left rear side of my 1997 Nissan pathfnder, near the fuel cap area. I have also been getting a check engine code p0440. I inquired with Nissan about a NHTSA campaign 07v435000, in regards to a faulty fuel fill tube. I was informed to take my vehicle into the local dealer, and they stated my 1997 Pathfinder was not covered under this campaign. It is my belief that since my 1997 model Pathfinder was produced on 11/1996, and I am thinking Nissan will only honor vehicles like mine,,but actually produced in the 1997 fiscal year. Obviously, the 1997 model year started late in 1996, like mine, and used the same parts as those produced in 1997 fiscal year. I believe, since mine is an actual 1997 model, but produced in 1996 for sale as a 1997, it should have been properly included under this campaign. Nissan will not discuss any details with me, even though I informed them of the gas fumes,,and that my vehicle exhibits the identical symptoms under the campaign. I would like the NHTSA, on behalf of those 1997 model Pathfinders, but produced in the fiscal year of 1996,,but as a 1997 model , to include these vehicles in the campaign for this safety defect. Nissan of America, refused to explain why my 1997 Pathfinder was excluded from this campaign. Again, I believe this may have been an administrative or procedural error, in excluding those 1997 model Pathfinders, produced prior to Jan 1, 2007. Such as mine and others. Properly, it is obvious there was some type of mistake, in not including or repairing these 1997 models in this campaign.

On September 12,2007 Nissan posted a recall on 2001 Nissan Pathfinders. My vehicle which should be part of the recall was denied by Nissan because my vehicles VIN#s were not part of their recall. I beg to differ. I purchased my vehicle in June 06 in lou,ky. The recall states that if they are currently registered in certain states and ky is one of those then I'm entitled to the recall. I have contacted Nissan and they denied my request. I do not know what will happen to the fuel tube or if by chance it will cause a fire or some serious injury to myself or others.
