1 Tank Assembly problem of the 2008 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 07/05/2014

The contact owns a 2008 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated while driving approximately 5 mph, the fuel gauge failed to rise above three quarters of a tank after refueling to full capacity and the service engine soon light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The technician made the contact aware that recall NHTSA campaign number: 10v075000 (fuel system, gasoline) was directly related to the failure that the vehicle was exhibiting. However, the vehicle was not repaired since the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 37,000.

2 Tank Assembly problem of the 2003 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 01/09/2014

2003 Nissan Pathfinder gas gauge is inaccurate to level indicated. On empty indicates full tank. Once filled it will remain accurate until 1/2 empty then begins to change levels each time vehicle is started. At times it reads full, other times 1/2 full and then jumping to full. Mechanic replaced fuel sender unit with Nissan parts from dealership. Problem remains. Presenting a po462 code both before and after replacing of float and sender unit.

5 Tank Assembly problem of the 2008 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 11/13/2013

Vehicle indicated fuel of about 1/4 tank and about 90 miles remaining. It will instantly drop to empty on the fuel tank and will show 0 miles remaining. This has occurred several times in the last couple weeks. Sometimes it is empty and sometimes it has fuel in it.

6 Tank Assembly problem of the 2008 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 07/15/2013

Starting last summer we initially noticed a problem with our gas gauge reading, but it seemed to go away. It is now happening frequently and almost caused an accident. We were in heavy traffic on a 4 lane and we thought we had enough gas, 1/4 tank?, but all of a sudden we ran out of gas. We were lucky that we were not hit by a semi truck. We fortunately were able to push it to the side of the road and wait for my son to come with a can of gas. We called dorschel Nissan in rochester and they agreed that it was a recall, we had went on your site and checked prior (10v075000). We scheduled an appointment. Now we received a call from them telling us that it is not covered, that it was a warranty extension item and that we are past the date?? wow, what customer service. I think this is a safety issue and that this is not a normal wear and tear item. They obviously have had problems with these sensors (80,000 recalls?) now the gas gauge is doing other things, saying we don't have any gas when we just filled up?.

7 Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 02/01/2013

2005 Nissan Pathfinder. Consumer writes in regards to technical service bulletin recommended that fuel level sending unit be replaced and requests assistance for repairs. The consumer stated he took the vehicle to the dealer, because the instrument panel fuel gauge was giving an incorrect reading. He explained to the dealer, the instrument panel showed the vehicle had approximately one-quarter tank of fuel, when in fact the fuel tank was empty and the service engine light had illuminated. He also pointed out to the mechanic, that due to the inaccuracy and erratic movement of the fuel gauge reading, it could stall, at any time a resent an unsafe condition of the vehicle and compromise the life and safety of his passengers. After a careful review was conducted by the Nissan technician, it was determined that the problem was due to the fuel sending unit malfunctioning, which was discovered earlier by Nissan, in which a technical service bulletin was issued. Nissan denied the consumers request to have the fuel sending unit replaced free of charge, because the vehicle was outside of the new vehicle limited warranty. The consumer stated Nissan has since issued a safety recall regarding the fuel sending unit and extended the primary warranty.

8 Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 11/14/2012

Check engine light went on and fuel registered empty on the dash. Since that time fuel gauge has not registered correctly going from full to empty at sporadic time but will never register less than 1/2 a tank causing issues as you never now how much fuel you have until you run out which is a safety hazard. Took to Nissan they said it was a fuel gauge issue and it would be over 500 to fix as they had to drop the tank to get at the fuel sensor. I was told there was a recall don't know why it didn't register as other Pathfinders have this issue . Also don't know why a mileage warranty is put on this they should fix the issue with the fuel tank regardless as it seems as soon as the vehicle hits 70k in mileage this breaks on the vehicle. Also don't believe they included all Pathfinders in this warranty as I am sure the dealer would have replaced it if it was a recall.

9 Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 05/04/2012

Faulty fuel sensor gave me impression I had more gas causing me run out of gas in traffic. I have read many complaints online of this happening to other Nissans with this same fuel system and Nissan needs recall this system. I filled the tank and now the fuel gauge is not working. ## VIN passed ## Nissan Pathfinder 2005 le ##.

10 Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 04/26/2012

The fuel quantity indicator upon filling up the tank froze at one half a tank mark on the indicator. The next time the fuel tank was filled up on 5/3/2012, the tank indicator went from half a tank level reading to a empty tank reading when the tank was filled up. The low fuel light came on, as did the service the engine light came on and has stayed on ever since. Since the fuel quantity indicator now shows an empty tank, you could very easily think that you were going to run out of fuel, when in fact you have a full tank of fuel. To a driver who did not fill up the vehicle, this could lead to an attempt to fill up a tank that was already full.

11 Tank Assembly problem of the 2008 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 04/23/2012

The fuel gauge on our vehicle is not working properly resulting in the need to calculate mileage or risk running out of gas. Sometimes the fuel gauge will show that the tank has gas and sometimes it says the tank is empty. There is a recall on fuel gauges/systems for 2008 Nissan Pathfinders, however Nissan has reported that our 2008 Nissan Pathfinder was not affected by this recall (based on the VIN).

12 Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 04/11/2012

Failed emissions test because of failed fuel level sensor, can suddenly run out of gas on full gauge or overflow when gauge says empty when filling up tank.

13 Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 04/04/2012

The contact owns a 2007 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated that the check engine light illuminated and the fuel gauge displayed an empty reading even though the fuel tank was full. The vehicle was taken to a local repair shop, who diagnosed that the fuel sender float arm was defective and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and offered no assistance since the vehicle was no longer under warranty. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 54,000 and the current mileage was 54,342. Updated 6/4/12 the consumer was informed a recall had been issued for the problem, the consumer had experienced. The consumer is seeking reimbursement. The consumer was informed the recall was only for the 2008 models. Updated 06/11/12.

14 Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 03/01/2012

Fuel level gauge shows incorrect readings. One moment it will show full, then empty, then quarter tank when it is actually nearing empty. The 2006 & 2008 models were recalled, not sure why the 2007 was not recalled also.

15 Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 01/16/2012

The fuel sensor reads inaccurate fuel levels and has caused me to run out of gas while it was driving. I had to walk in the cold to the gas station to get a container to fill my car up. The sensor reads "-----" and the gauge shows an empty tank. Their is a recall for the 2006 Nissan Pathfinder but their is no recall for the 2005 Pathfinder when it comes to the fuel sensor. This is shameful considering this is an all too common problem that people are experiencing as noted by the raves online. Nissan should be helping their consumers and keep the owners safe.

16 Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 01/07/2012

The contact owns a 2007 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated that the fuel level gauge was incorrectly displaying that the fuel tank was empty when it was actually full with fuel. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and was told that the fuel level sensor in the fuel tank would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not available. The current and the failure mileages were 95,500.

17 Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 12/20/2011

Fuel sending unit . . . . . Tank reads 1/4 to 1/3 to empty on panel and runs out of gas . . . . While driving gauge fluctuates to full half and none after filing up and continues to do so no matter how much fuel . . . . . . Digital reading says 0 to 30 to 120 to 300 miles after filling up . . . Check engine light is on giving a error code for fuel sender. . . . There was a recall on the 2006 Nissan Pathfinder for this issue but Nissan states that my vehicle does not fall in the recall . . . . . . Vehicle was manu 05/06. . . And has the same issue as the recall for 80,000 other Nissan vehicles made the same year. . . Nissan wants me to pay 98. 00 for a diagnostic when I've had one done by a auto shop and the code matches the fuel sending unit. . . . Nissan states they are unsure if they will cover the fuel sender or assist in repairdue to the fact my 06 Pathfinder wasn't included in the recall.

18 Tank Assembly problem of the 2008 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 12/16/2011

The contact owns a 2008 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated that the fuel gauge failed. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign id number: 10v075000 (fuel system, gasoline storage: auxiliary tank) and contacted the manufacturer who advised that the vehicle was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The current mileage was 80,000 and the failure mileage was unknown.

19 Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 10/10/2011

Within a year of having the fuel level sending unit replaced as part of a recall, the same symptom appeareared as described in the recall and as was happening before the initial recall work was done. The root cause of the problem was a deformation of the fuel tank that would cause the sending unit to "hang up". When I returned to the Nissan dealership to repair the problem again, they then told me that the problem was a bulging fuel tank and wanted to replace the fuel tank. I contacted Nissan consumer affairs, they reviewed my claim and decided thay would not cover the repairs. In my mind the root cause was never truly addressed and now I am paying to repair what should have been initially repaired in the first place.

20 Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 09/02/2011

My car had 1/4 fuel, I filled the tank to full, the gas gauge do not set the car to full tank, I read the book and made the instructions but the gauge do not change, when I run the car for 2 hrs. And I turn off, it began to change to full tank. The other issue was when I had a 1/2 tank of gasoline. . . I stop for 5 minutues and I leave the car on, when I returned saw the gas gauge in empty. . . Actually I have the check engin light on for some days and off for the others days.

21 Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 07/06/2011

The fuel level sensor shows partially full tank all the time and service engine light comes on. This is very dangerous and the first time it happened, we did not realize it and ran out of gas and ended up stranding my family on a busy highway. Apparently this is a common theme among all 2005 - 2009 Nissan Pathfinder, xterra and frontier owners and there needs to be a service recall for this! I have seen numerous forums and this sensor has failed anywhere from 40k miles onwards and costs anywhere from 400 - 600 dollars to fix. Please ensure that Nissan takes care of this issue as soon as possible. Thanks.

22 Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 01/16/2011

2006 Nissan Pathfinder v-6 le the fuel gauge sending unit (25060-r51003) has failed. Constantly says tank is empty. Received warranty notification from manufacturer stating there is an issue with the part, but will not replace it.

23 Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 12/25/2010

Fuel indicator shows that the fuel tank is empty when it is actually full. Also the check engine light is always on when it is reset and service has been done. The indicator registering empty puts the driver at risk for accident and death.

24 Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 12/17/2010

Fuel sending unit bad trouble code 0463. Filled gas tank at 1/4 to full. Started car gauge read a little above 1/4 tank of gas. Gauge went up slowly to about 1/2 then suddenly dropped to 0(empty).

25 Tank Assembly problem of the 1999 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 11/05/2010

The contact owns a 1999 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated that the filler tank for the fuel tank leaked fuel when the vehicle was being fuel. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who referred the contact to the manufacturer as the VIN did not appear in the database. The contact called the manufacturer who offered no assistance as the VIN could not be found. The failure mileage was 120,000.

26 Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 09/29/2010

The contact owns a 2007 Nissan Pathfinder. After filling the fuel tank, the contact noticed that the fuel gauge would not register a correct reading of fuel in the tank. Seconds later, the check engine light illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The current and failure mileages were approximately 20,000.

27 Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 09/01/2010

The gas gauge on my 2006 Nissan Pathfinder read 1/4 of tank of gas remaining and suddenly engine stopped running and I had to pull over to the shoulder. After my husband exhausted all efforts trying to detect the problem, he put gas in it to see if that was it (because gauge was reading 1/4 of tank remaining. ) after putting gas in, car started and we drove it home. Went to gas station to fill up with gas and service engine soon light came on and gas gauge no longer works properly. I usually get 330 miles to tank of gas and now the gas light comes on and stays on after going 200 miles on a tank. Nissan dealership wants $500 to repair and as it turns out, thousands of people are having the same problem. It is very dangerous to drive down the highway and not know if your vehicle is going to shut off because you don't have gas in it (when you do have gas in it. . . Just not enough for some sensor in your gas tank to recognize. ) I have held off on paying for this repair because I want Nissan to recall this fuel issue and repair it. I have been a loyal Nissan customer (2 maximas before this Pathfinder) but this is starting to change my mind.

28 Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 08/30/2010

The fuel gauge stopped working a while ago, and the service engine light came on and stayed on. The gauge would show 1/4 tank fuel after filling the tank up, then work normal, then drop to empty, even though the tank was at least 1/2 full. I would keep track of how many miles I drove and fill up the tank every 300 miles. That's how I knew it was time to get gas again. . . Today I found out that problem is not only a nuisance for me, but it is also connected to our state emission inspection. When I had the inspection done today, id did not pass the "on-board diagnostic (obdii) test, which is one of the state requirements. Resulting failure code for the obdii test was p0463-fuel level sensor "a" circuit high. My understanding is this very same/similar defect affected many of 2006 and 2008 Pathfinders, and resulted in a recall of those vehicles. Based on the many complains on this site, it is evident it affects many 2007 Pathfinders as well. Since it does affect emission requirements, please further investigate so the problem can be fixed.

29 Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 08/26/2010

Service engine soon light came on. Fuel gauge is not registering properly. Filled tank, gauge does not register full tank. Will run out of gas if gauge not registering properly. It occurs every time gas is put in car ses light comes on and gauge doesn't register full. Dealer was going to replace fuel level sending unit but we elected not to replace because of cost. Called Nissan - other 2006 Pathfinders qualify for replacement under recall but they say my VIN does not fall under current recall.

30 Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 08/15/2010

The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder. When the check engine light illuminated he noticed that the gas gauge failed. The gauge reads empty whether the fuel tank was empty or full. The vehicle was taken to the garage to diagnose the failure in the fuel level sensor. The manufacturer took report 68729973 and they advised him that he had to take the vehicle to the dealership to be diagnosed for them to consider assisting with the repairs. He also experienced a failure with the transmission due to the defective radiator which caused the radiator fluid to leak into the transmission. The failure and current mileages were 80,000.

31 Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 08/12/2010

Fuel system sensor/gas gauge not working properly all the time (tank can be full or empty) you would not know had to purchase the sensor from Nissan and Nissan had to repair for $700. 00.

32 Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 08/10/2010

I own a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder, and I am the original buyer. At approximately 92,000 miles my vehicle developed the fuel gauge failure where the gauge reads a 1/4 tank even if full or empty, and the dte indicator is just ----. I took it in with 93,855 miles in August 2010 for an extended warranty repair. This repair was declined for coverage (not a Nissan warranty) and I paid $408. 65 to have it repaired at the Nissan dealer. In December 2010, I received from Nissan a letter relating this exact problem/failure and that all 2005 thru 2008 Pathfinders were being issued a warranty extension of up to 6 years and 72,000 miles. From doing research, I understand Nissan originally did this for just 2006 thru 2008 vehicles, but there was such an outcry from owners of 2005s that they were later included. In the Nissan letter, it stated that if you had this fault and had it repaired at your expense, you could send in documentation for a refund. There was no mention of the 6 year or 72,000 mile limitation in the letter for prior repairs. I sent in my documentation. It makes no sense that a fault of the manufacturer does not cover all repairs, but it appears that those who bought the early vehicles with obviously more miles than the newer ones are being discriminated against since my refund was denied. I have read on your site that many others with 2005s are also being denied. Nissan should do what is right and pay for these repairs. It is a safety issue since one can run out of gas at an inopportune time, or even pump in gas and have it overflow due to the tank being full and the driver not knowing it. They could try to force in fuel due to a 1/4 tank indication, and while refueling, after putting in 3 gallons, the automatic pump cuts off the flow. The driver knows that 3 gallons did not fill a 1/4 full tank so they keep pulling the handle trying to fill the tank. They would then be rewarded by having fuel shoot out of the tank possibly on them , and possibly having it ignite.

33 Tank Assembly problem of the 2008 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 08/09/2010

Pathfinder vehicles. The molded fuel tank shells can deform, causing the fuel sender float arm to contact an embossment molded into the tank shell causing the instrument panel fuel gauge to show that the vehicle has approximately one quarter tank when the fuel tank is empty. I have stalled in traffic three times . The vehicle loses all control of power steering, power brakes and ceases to move suddenly in the middle of the road. This is a very dangerous situation for myself and other motor vehicles. I have researches this common problem with Nissan and found numerous complaints on this exact same issue. I called Nissan to file a complaint and they stated there has been no recall issued for this very dangerous issue. I feel like Nissan is stalling in fixing this problem at a huge risk to its consumer.

34 Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 08/08/2010

8-9-2010 I began having difficulty getting my car to shift into reverse. Within 2 weeks, while driving down a crowded highway, my car wouldn't shift from 3rd to 4th, and I could smell something burning. When I finally found a spot to pull over and park, a large puddle of fluid leaked all over the ground. I was alone, in an area I didn't know, and nearly got rear-ended several times when it wouldn't shift gears. I took it to several shops, and the transmissions was ruined. It would have to be rebuilt or replaced, both totalling thousands of $ I don't have. I borrowed money to have it rebuilt. Within 2 weeks, I started having the same issues. When I took it back to the shop, the technician said radiator coolant had leaked into the transmission and it would have to be rebuilt or replaced again. After looking online, I see hundreds of complaints for the exact same issue. For the fuel system, approximately 5/2010, the fuel gauge will drop to empty, even though there will still be fuel in the tank. Sometimes it will stick to mid-full when there is no fuel. Adaptive equipment, when I start the vehicle and try to warm it up, it will only blow cold air, never warm no matter how long it runs.

35 Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 08/07/2010

2005 Nissan Pathfinder, service engine light is on due to the fuel level sensor (fuel tank is full, gage read 1/4 or half) and this leads me to not know how much fuel is in the vehicle. The vehicle has 51,000 miles.
