Took my 2007 Nissan Quest in to the Nissan dealership for a rattle, vibration and pulsing out of the front end. Service writer tells me it's a timing chain (not belt) that needs to be replaced. I asked him if that was the noise I heard (I didn't think that was the issue) and I was told they weren't sure and that probably wasn't the noise I was hearing. I left the dealership only to have the vibrations worse, noise more pronounced and the thought of a 2000. 00 bill on the horizon for a timing chain. The vehicle seems to push and constantly pull to the left. Alignment and new tires had no effect at all. Sometimes the van seems unstable at entry highway speeds. Nissan USA clearly doesn't care so I'm hoping you might be able to do something with them.
The timing chain issue was officially confirmed. We were assured by the technician at Nissan santa rosa that upon investigation we were not responsible for the wear and damage of the parts. I have a concern that there is a possibility that fraud and deception was committed which is a violation of the deceptive trade practices act (dtpa). As per the national highway traffic safety administration (NHTSA), the united states code for motor vehicle safety (title 49, chapter 301) defines motor vehicle safety as ¿the performance of a motor vehicle or motor vehicle equipment in a way that protects the public against unreasonable risk of accidents occurring because of the design, construction, or performance of a motor vehicle, and against unreasonable risk of death or injury in an accident, and includes nonoperational safety of a motor vehicle. Generally, a safety defect is defined as a problem that exists in a motor vehicle or item of motor vehicle equipment that: poses an risk to motor vehicle safety, and may exist in a group of vehicles of the same design or manufacture, or items of equipment of the same type and manufacture. A technical service bulletin was issued due to the high volume of problems with timing chains. Timing chains were used in place of belts because of the supposed maintenance free quality they provided. Unlike belts, timing chains are supposed to be good for the life of the vehicle. However, Nissan was using nylon gears. Metal on nylon will wear out and should not be boasted as ¿good for lifetime of vehicle. multiple websites and forums have posted the problems and expenses incurred with their Nissan timing chain issues. The Nissan technician at Nissan santa rosa stated that this is why Nissan switched back to using belts because so many people were having issues with their ¿lifetime chains.
My Nissan Quest has been making a rattling noise that is progressively getting worse. I took it in today and was told that I had problems with the timing chain and that I should take it to a dealer or engine shop that is equipped to fix such an issue. One of the reasons I favored buying this car was because of the fact that Nissan uses a timing chain rather than a timing belt. Thus, I wouldn't have the expense of replacing a timing belt in the future. I was lead to believe that timing chains would not be something that I would need to fix. Because this problem is prevalent among Quest owners, I believe that Nissan should recall their vehicles that suffer from the same design flaw. If Nissan doesn't address this issue, someone is going to get injured or killed as a result of one of their faulty timing belts breaking while one of their faulty cars is being driven.

An f-350 ran a stoplight at 50 mph and impacted the front driver side of van at the tire. The van turned upon impact and received the balance of the impact head on with concentration to the left quadrant. Further spinning, the van then impacted the side of the offending vehicle. Complaint: the air bags did not deploy. She was wearing her seat belt. She sustained injuries to cervical, thoracic, and lumbar regions of back. She was treated for 2. 5 months and then released. Her head hit the driver side roof, thankfully, just above the window resulting only in bruising. Her muscles were sore from head to toe for about a month. It is quite possible that these injuries would have been minimized by airbag deployment. High impact crash to the bumper and no protection of airbags seems to be a common complaint found online. Positive feedback: the entire front end, engine, battery, etc. Compacted into a pancake, but the passenger compartment had only a small buckle on the floor board at the pedals. The engine was crushed. This was a definite positive. (unrelated to accident complaint above: the exterior handles of the sliding doors were replaced twice. Prior to the latter repair, when the passenger side exterior sliding door handle broke, my daughter's hand was cut and bruised!).

We were going over loveland pass in colorado. As soon as we started going back down the engine failed. I had to drift with no power to a shoulder to pull off on. My two kids were in the car and were scared about me having no power. Had to wait an hour to tow it. The garage said the timing belt broke, $1900 to fix. . . . . . .
My car engine has been making a clicking noise for the past 10,000 miles and seems to be getting worse. On taking it into the dealer at approx 95,000 miles, they told me I needed to have the timing chain replaced with other incidentals for a cost of approx $3200. , $2300 alone for the timing belt aspect. I did not follow through with the timing chain repair but only the repair of the high speed steering hose. I have been reviewing the timing chain reports and it definitely seem that Nissan has a problem with failing timing chains and it does seem like a manufacturing defect and as such should be recalled. I strongly recommend that NHTSA start an investigation into recalling all the Nissan timing chain vehicles.
Nissan 2004 Quest, while driving and making left in intersection van dies. Take it in to nssan dealership and unable to run dianostic test due to engine not running. They believe its a timing chain problem and need to open engine. Other consumer reports with problems with timing belts. We're a family of seven, if it would have happened while on freeway most likely would have had fatalaties involved. Nissan refuses to practice any goodwill finacial assistance.
Initially random squealing noises from engine occurred. Later noise became more frequent when car was sitting idle. Took to repair shop, found that drive belts needed replacing. Car was under 20k miles.
2001 Nissan Quest se van VIN 4n2zn16t41d827149. At first start up each day or after sitting an hour or so a loud grinding engine noise is heard for several seconds. Will report this to the dealer ASAP. This happens on a daily basis. We have owned this vehicle for four months and it has less than 10,000 miles on it now. We bought it used with 7,000 miles already on it.

Heater coil failed, leaking coolant inside of the vehicle. Headlights fail while driving. Gas pedal binds causing suddening acceleration. Seatbelt fails to connect fully.
The head of a bold holding the head to the engine block failed. The loose bolt head then jammed the cam shaft preventing the cam shaft from rotating. When starting the engine, the timing belt broke at the drive shaft damaging valves since the engine is a "non-clearance" engine. The bolt failed by fatigue which is evident in the failure surface. The fatigue failure originated at a location just under the bolt head due to a manufacturing defect. It is estimated that the repair will cost about $2000.
