My van has 120k miles on it. For the past one year, I have been dealing with a rattle sound in the engine. It comes on a cold start and would go away after a couple of minutes. My mechanic took a look and said these Nissan engines have a known issue with the timing chain. Lately the rattle sound keeps coming for more than 5 minutes. I am afraid this will cause some other problem in the engine that would stall the engine while running on the road. Nissan should issue a recall and fix this timing chain issue, which it already knows about.

I've had this vehicle into my local Nissan dealers service center many times for a loss of power. They had me replace the ecu, which had to be programmed, then they said that it was the catalytic converters. I bought all three of those. After that it needed to be programmed for the air/fuel ratio. Still ran the same. I brought it into a different shop, they said it had a bad throttle. My brother had one I had put in but still no power, and hesitation at acceleration and up hills, and misfires and backfires a lot. One of the codes they found for me was a timing issue. My brother has same van told me he had to replace the timing chain. I've heard a rattling and whining noise from timing area, so I looked into this further. Back in 2004 Nissan issued a TSB regarding this issue telling technicians to make a "goodwill adjustment" to push back repairs of this issue until the vehicle was out of warranty. I am very concerned about this problem with my vehicle since learning about what could happen should it fail. I drive my children in that van and bought it because I thought it would be a safe and comfortable vehicle to drive. Apparently not. Nissan consumer affairs even told me that they will not cover the cost of repairs. I currently await to hear from a supervisor to give them an earful and to find out the reasons why it will not be fixed. This should be a safety recall. If catastrophic engine failure due to this happens on the highway (which we travel almost every day), this would leave the vehicle completely crippled and unable to steer out of the way of any danger. Sooner or later someone is going to be injured if not killed in a motor vehicle accident from this if not already. It's a shame Nissan doesn't see the value of potentially saving its customers lives vs. The cost of making necessary repairs. It should be a recall. I'll never buy a Nissan again.

The engine makes a rattling noise. Dealer says timing chain guide needs to be replace at a cost of $1700. They also asked me not to drive the vehicle as it may cause the timing chain to jump in the middle of the road causing an accident and also engine damage.
Lately, when I start the car, there is a rattling sound coming from the engine. It comes for a couple of minutes and then it goes away. I have noticed it on cold starts. My mechanic says, it could be the timing chain issue. When I search the Nissan forums, I see a lot of people having this issue. The cost to fix this is around 2000. 00. I am not sure if I should fix this now or wait for Nissan to issue a re-call for this. Since the rattling sound goes away after a couple of minutes, one part of me tells me I can continue to drive like this. Another part tells me what if the timing chain fails in a busy highway causing a crash. Please review and make Nissan issue a re-call for this safety issue.
I purchased my 2007 Nissan Quest se January of 2014 and after about a year of ownership, the van started to make the now infamous timing chain rattle noise upon cold starting the van. It would eventually go away after 10 minutes or more, but its really annoying to have to listen to this loud noise every time I start my van, and Nissan should be held accountable and offer a free permanent fix to this problem.
Rattling noise that increases as I accelerate. I assumed it was part of the exhaust system only to find out it is a timing chain issue which can cost at a minimum of $1800 for labor that does not include parts. I have contacted several mechanics in my area and they won't even deal with this issue due to the way Nissan has put the timing chain in the 2004 Quest.

After only about 59000 miles my Nissan Quest 2008 3. 5l is making loud whining noise from the engine. I am informed by the Nissan dealer were it is being repaired that the timing chain needs to be replaced. This is an issue with many Nissan vehicles and and official recall should be made about this problem with this type of engines. See Nissan technical bulletin from Dec. 14. 2009 with classification: em07-001c and reference: ntb07-042c about this very well know issue for all Nissan maxima, altima, Quest buzzing / whining noise from timing chain area.

The rattling noise began at 45,000 miles. When I accelerate, a rattling chain sound is heard from the engine area. I currently have 50,000 miles on my 2007 Nissan Quest. It has to be replaced or it will eventually do damage to the engine. It's an 8 hr process. It's estimated at $1800 for the repair. The timing chain needs to be replaced and there's no recall. There is a repair bulletin out but no recall. The speedometer reads 20-25mph when it's at "parked" and sometimes when the engine is turned off. I am driving 60mph on a local road and 100mph on the freeway. The rear blower turns on by itself when I turn on the engine. I have to shut off the engine and the blower turns off. The front blower is off during the entire time. These are repairs that have been experienced by other owners and yet there's no recall, only service bulletins.
Around 85000 miles a rattling noise appear, it was diagnosed as the timing chain, I was told at the dealership that they have a problem with the timing chain but they do not have a recall. It cost over $2000 to repair a problem known to the Nissan company and they won't do a recall.
