We were driving on the highway and the transmission felt like the van was jerking every time the gas was pressed. This was even happening the day prior when driving on the highway. At one point the rpm would go start going high when the gas was barely being pressed. We decided to get off at the next exit. We were at a stoplight and the van just suddenly stopped giving any power when pressing on the gas. There were no light indicators on the dashboard to alert of anything wrong with the van. The rpm would not rev up even with the gas pedal floored. We turned the van off and on to see if that was the issue. The same thing happened and there was still no power pushing the gas pedal. The van had to roll until we were able to park safely at a gas station. We let the van sit for over 30 minutes just in case to see if it was an overheating issue. There was a jiffy lube nearby and we asked a mechanic what the issue would be. They said that Nissan had a cvt transmission which has been known to have problems like loss of power, transmission jerking, etc. Eventually we had to get the van towed because the transmission failed.

At 119,000 miles the vehicle experienced a complete transmission failure while driving. The vehicle wouldn't get out of 1st gear, making acceleration from a dead stop nearly impossible. Several calls to my Nissan dealership and to Nissan corporation resulted in "I'm sorry but we can't do anything for you but offer a complete replacement of your transmission at at cost over $5000". The vehicle is only 19k miles out of the extended warranty that I purchased from Nissan, but they are claiming they don't look at that, they look at the original manufacture warranty. Nissan is aware of issues with the cvt transmission they have put in their cars but refuse to fix the issues or work with customers.
Cvt transmission complete failure.

Complete transmission failure right after passing the 60,000 mile warranty. The vehicle jerked and the check engine light came one. The Nissan dealer stated that the entire transmission needs to be replaced. It can't be rebuilt. This appears to be a known problem across other 2012 Nissan Quests. Other customers have complained about this as well. . Read more...
We purchased our 2013 Nissan Quest minivan six years ago, and the cvt transmission failed while driving home from church on Sunday, may 5th. After getting gas, I tried to accelerate and the entire front started vibrating and very minimal acceleration ability, 0-10mph. I went from parking lot onto city streets barely able to move forward/accelerate. Once I was on bigger street, speed limit of 40mph, I still couldn'tt accelerate over 5-10mph. Parked in the driveway;later in afternoon, independent mechanic came to our house to test control panel with code reader, he confirmed it was the trans. We test drove to determine if we could drive 20-30 minutes to Nissan dealer, but we barely got a half a block from our house before we lost total acceleration - could not move forward at all. We shut the van off, restarted it which allowed us to go 5mph & get home. The cvt transmission needs to be replaced in all Nissan models. 6 year old van, still owe 10 car payments w/limited warranty valid until April 2020, however we have 118,000 miles, surpassing 100k limit. We've read online 1ks of consumer complaints on cvt trans failure, sentra, rogue, murano, altima, Quest. Nissan refuses to recall for cvt trans replacement because it is not deemed a safety issue. Being unable to accelerate above 10mph in heavy traffic with our kids in the vehicle is a safety issue. Nissan us cust service rep gave us the run around: tow van to dealer for Nissan test then the case would be reviewed (shell out $300) however there is no guarantee of replacement of cvt transmission by Nissan. I am a teacher, this minivan is my transportation to/from school. My husband works part-time as warehouse laborer, so we cannot afford to replace the cvt trans for $5000. Nissan corporate needs to address this safety issue involving the cvt trans & replace all cvts & develop new trans. Lives are at stake.
Tl-the contact owns a 2012 Nissan Quest. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds the gas tank would be on e. The contact stated that he would fill up the gas tank and in 2 hours the tank would be empty. No warning lights illuminated. Transmission failure is causing van to stall. Can happen just traveling down highway. Happens as you try to pull into traffic. So sluggish you are afraid you will not make it through an intersection. Can happen just traveling down interstate. Frightening when in that situation with eighteen wheelers in your rear view mirror. Have taken to Nissan certified technicians and they have not been able to identify the problem. This has happened 3 times. Taken to dealership each time.

On 10/08/2015 - within 10 days after my last servicing thru Nissan dealer I lost transmission on my Nissan Quest 3. 5 se model year 2004 with mileage 110000. It was very painful experience as vehicle had to be towed to tom wood dealer where its been replaced at a very high cost from my pocket that I was not prepared. I was surprized on the transmission failure for such a low mileage but more surpise that the dealer could not detect it during multi-point inspection check after every oil change servicing. For the sake of record, I have performed all of the Quest servicing (100%) thru the dealer from where I bought this van initially. Also I had replaced transmission oil at 60k mile servicing that was recommended at that time. This van is well maintained and still got this transmission failure is a surpize and raises concerns to the Nissan dropping quality. Also I was looking online and noticed Quest 2004 has this problem, known for bad transmission. There are many complaints and case reported against Nissan USA. I am reporting to all 3 sites thru this link below (carcomplaint, cas and NHTSA). . Read more...

Transmission is failing on this 2007 Nissan Quest. Surges, drops, delays in acceleration creating very dangerous situations on the road. This is apparently a common issue with this vehicle.
Transmission failed causing vehicle to drop to neutral and loose acceleration above 20 mph. No power was available until the vehicle was slowed below 15 mph. Incident happened after turning into traffic and trying to accelerate to 45 mph. Traffic behind the vehicle had to brake quickly to avoid rear end collision.
Van started to develop a jerk when shifting from park to drive after vehicle has warmed up. Was told it needed motor mount and spent $2300 at Nissan on Friday 11/30/12 to have several repairs including the front motor mount. No jerking after work was done until Sunday , 12/2/12. On Monday 12/3/12 after driving my children to school, I put the vehicle in park to open the power side doors to let them out. When shifting back into drive the vehicle jerked violently and lurched forward about 2 feet. I did not hit the vehicle in front of me but had there been someone walking between the front of my vehicle and the back of the vehicle in front of me, I probably would have hit them. I don't think it is a major safety issue but there could be a hazard if the vehicle jerks forward at the wrong time. After researching online tonight I found that this is a known defect in the Nissan altima, maxima, and Quest vehicles that utilize this transmission. There is a class action law suit against Nissan for continuing to allow the defective transmissions to be utilized after they were aware of the problems. . Read more...
The transmission failed and now is being replaced at a minimum charge of $3500. The transmission mechanic said that Nissan used shoddy materials in its transmissions for the 2006 year. I live in mountainous terrain and said defective transmission could have been very dangerous. In addition, I note that many websites refer to Nissan vehicles having defective transmissions.
