5 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2004 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 02/20/2008

Nissan north America has incorrectly defined the condition "brake judder" as steering wheel shake, body vibration or brake pedal pulsation while braking (emphasis mine), especially at highway speeds. My problem manifested itself at highway speeds while no braking was being accomplished, and was extreme after the purchase of new premium tires (toyo open country h/t). While a fix has been offered for "brake judder" as Nissan defines it, I was told at two different Nissan dealers that it would not remedy my problem. My problem surfaced before the 36 month/ unlimited mileage limitation, but I did not utilize the warranty coverage because my situation did not fit the definition. An independent tire dealer mechanic (who used to work for Nissan) indicated that defective rotors were indeed the problem, and internet forums and lemon law websites supported his claim. Since I had exceeded the 36 month limit by 90 days, I elected to let the local independent tire dealer install the Nissan parts. He was correct! problem solved (at least for now). I called Nissans consumer affairs line to complain, and to let them know that I felt that a safety recall should have been implemented because of the extreme safety implications involved--and not the company cost saving measures of a couple of tsbs and a feebly modified basic auto warranty. Nissan is acutely aware that they have a problem. She asked me what Nissan na could do for me? I replied, "pay for the parts and labor that it cost me to fix my truck, which total $747. 65. " she asked if I had the receipts for the repairs and I answered in the affirmative. When I disclosed that and independent tire dealer had installed the Nissan parts (done by a former Nissan technician), reimbursement for parts and labor were resolutely denied because a Nissan dealer didn't do the job (the same folks who told me I no longer had warranty coverage, and that the fix" would not remedy my particular problem). Updated 03/17/08.

6 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2006 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 08/09/2007

The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Titan. While driving 45 mph, the steering wheel began shaking when the brakes were applied. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and was informed that this was normal wear for the vehicle. However, the dealer replaced the rotors and brake pads for the front tires. The vehicle worked normally for a year after the repairs were made, but the failure eventually recurred. This temporarily remedied the issue for 15,000 miles. The contact believes that this failure should not be occurring to a three year old vehicle. The vehicle is not used everyday, so he believes the failure is due to a manufacturer defect. He attempted to have the rotors turned for a second time. Currently, the rotors have to be replaced for the third time. The failure mileage was 28,000 and current mileage was 75,000. Updated 5/26/09 the consumer stated the rotors were turned and new pads were installed. Updated 05/28/09.

7 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2004 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 08/01/2007

The contact owns a 2004 Nissan Titan. The contact stated that the rotors on his vehicle have been replaced three times. The first time was in October of 2005 due to a safety recall. The second and third times were due to so much corrosion that the brake pads detached from the brakes. The power steering line has been replaced three times in two months. He also stated that the power steering failed intermittently while driving. The VIN, purchase date, speed, and recall number were unknown. The current mileage was 23,000 and failure mileage was 12,000.

9 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2007 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 03/15/2007

This is my 2nd Nissan Titan in less than 2 years! I traded in a 2005 with less than 20,000 miles because of 3 full tire set replacements and new brakes at 6,000 miles and problems that the dealer stated are currently fixed in the new 2007 models. My new 2007 at 1200 miles dealer replaced defective rims with a new set of defective rims that are a after market plastic hubcap glued to the steel rim which is clicking and popping while in motion and after 15 minutes driving when I park they still pop and click until they completely cool down which is about 30 minutes later. I also have the drivers side window go down by itself and stop exactly at 3 inches after I attempted to close it, my ac does not cool at all and often does not come on even when my gps screen says it is set on high and running I have to pull over turn off truck then restart truck to get ac to come on. Dealer says they cannot find the problem even though there is a TSB on it that I gave them! dealer said window problem is due to georgia heat, it is doing what it is suppose to do but my other 3 windows don't have a problem! my rims they stated that they want to put more glue a TSB tech to fix the problem! that is not a repair that is a band aid that will not hold with the heat tires put off! as of now I will never ever purchase any Nissan ever again and I will be buying new rims for my truck and Nissan consumer affairs has not helped at all what so ever only tell me to do the TSB glue repair and even though I paid 1800. 00 extra for chrome rim package they will not refund or purchase new rims at all so I am on my own.

10 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2005 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 12/10/2006

I bought my 2005 Nissan Titan crew cab 4x4 le new in may of 2005. Since then I have had to have my brakes/rotors replaced and resurfaced 3 times do to sever brake vibration. The first time was at 7500 miles, second was at 15000 miles and now at 25000 miles. This is horrible and very dangerous. The brakes are obviously undersized for a vehicle that is advertised to tow 10,000 lbs, and I am having these problems without ever towing anything.

11 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2004 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 09/12/2006

: the contact stated the brake pedal was soft and when making a sudden stop, the brake had to be pumped in order to stop. The brake light illuminated on the vehicle. The pads and rotors were changed twice, but the problem persisted. There was a vibration in the steering wheel.

12 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2004 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 08/15/2006

: the contact stated when the brake pedal was applied, the brakes shook, vibrated and stopping power was diminished. The dealership replaced the front rotors and pads five times. The first time the pads and rotors were replaced after 4,000 miles. The fifth time the front pads and rotors were replaced at 27,000 miles. The contact was unsure of the mileage in between. The vehicle was at the dealership awaiting repair.

13 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2005 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 05/10/2006

: the contact stated while applying brake pressure at various speeds the front of the vehicle vibrates. The vibrations can be felt in the steering wheel and the driver's side floor board. The problem occurs without warning and has progressively become worse. The vehicle has not been inspected.

14 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2005 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 03/11/2006

I purchased my 2005 Nissan Titan on September 28, 2005. I noticed a vibration beginning in late February 2006 when braking. On March 11, 2006, the brakes were reported within normal limits during regular scheduled maintenance at 17344 miles. The service technician reported that the rotors were warped and recommended an updated brake kit if the vehicle had not already had it. The service advisor stated that there was no need to do this work until the brakes needed to be replaced and that the vehicle was still safe to drive. The vibration has consistently worsened since that time and the entire truck vibrates when braking. I feel that this is a manufacturer's defect. I have owned many other trucks and never required brakes or rotor repair within 6 months of purchase. I have researched different websites to discover there have been no recalls in this area.

15 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2005 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 03/02/2006

: the contact stated while driving downhill 30mph on a wet road, brake pressure was applied and there was a front end vibration as though the abs engaged. This was followed by the vehicle's rear end sling around and striking some brush and trees with minor damage. No injuries were sustained and the police were not contacted. The vehicle was seen by a dealer which replaced the rotors, but suggested the accident could be attributed to the wet road conditions.

16 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2005 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 02/17/2006

Warped rotors , 4 attempts to repair with less than 17000 mi. The problem has just started for 5th time, less than 1000 miles after 4th attempt. The truck is only used for a family car not for heavy duty use.

17 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2004 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 01/01/2006

I have a 2004 Nissan Titan le extend cab with off road package and towing package. I have had to have the brakes looked at about every 20k miles. I currently have 67k on it, and I had it in the shop for 3 day while waiting on Nissan corp to decide if they would still cover the brake defect. The dealer told us they could only turn the rotors and replace the pads, which they did 2x's. Now it needs new rotors and pads, and suddenly the recall is no longer in effect, so I will have to pay over $500 to get this done. I refuse, and I am still waiting on Nissan corp to call me. I will never buy another Nissan again, their customer service is horrible.

18 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2005 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 12/23/2005

: the contact stated while stopping the brake pedal shook. The vehicle was taken to the dealership, who stated that during assembly the discs and rotors for a maxima were placed on this vehicle. The dealer offered to replace the discs and rotors, but the contact declined. The dealer indicated there could be multiple vehicles produced at the same plant with the incorrect braking components.

19 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2005 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 11/05/2005

I purchased this vehicle new. At 7000 miles I started experiencing severe brake shudder whenever I applied the brakes. The dealer replaced the front pads and rotors and turned the rear rotors. Brakes should last longer than 7000 miles.

20 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2004 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 10/18/2005

I have a 2004 Nissan Titan, which I bought from east carolina Nissan. I have returned the vehicle three times for repairs to the brake system. They have replaced parts each time. The brakes still do not stop the vehicle. I wrote the manager and he said he would not refund my money or replace the vehicle under the federal lemon law.

21 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2005 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 10/03/2005

I purchased a new 2005 Nissan Titan le. The factory installed brakes are unsafe and inadequate for the vehicle. When the brakes were applied, the steering wheel would shake terribly. The dealership said they replaced the rotors due to the fact that the factory rotors were too small for the truck. The truck now has 7,000 miles on it and the terrible brake juddering is back. It makes the vehicle much more difficult to stop. It's a safety hazard.

22 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2005 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 09/14/2005

The consumer owns a 2005 Nissan Titan pickup truck and has to replace the brakes at 2,700 miles. The dealership is the one that changed the brakes. The more the brakes were applied the more the vehicle shook. Consumer's vehicle went off road. This vehicle was too hard to control because of the shaking. The vehicle has not been looked at for shaking. There was a recall, and t recall repairs were performed a couple of months ago.

24 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2005 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 08/05/2005

I was driving on route "a" state blacktop coming into a sharp corner and when I applied the brakes the front wheels began to shimmy very hard. It caused the 2005 Nissan Titan pickup to lose contact with the highway causing it to leave the road and overturn. The truck was totaled and I received minor injuries. Air bag and seat belt saved me. Nissan knows they have a problem and I was not notified about a possible brake problem until it wrecked me. They should be responsible for recalling all their trucks with this problem. If I would have died in the crash, no one would know the cause. I do not have the money to buy back the truck from the insurance company for the proof of warped rotors causing the accident. It also appeared the rear brakes did not work because the abs system was confused? I could use some help here.

25 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2004 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 08/01/2005

A 2004 Nissan Titan. While the consumer was driving the brakes failed. This has happened at least three times. When pressing on the brakes they will not hold. This did not happen every time. 27 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2004 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 07/15/2005

Contact states she leased a vehicle from lia Nissan with 17 miles on it in 9-04. She heard a squeaking noise in the brakes. Also , the brakes went all the way to the floor. She took vehicle to a Nissan dealership in 1-05. They could not find anything wrong with the brakes. About 2 months later around April or may she noticed the steering wheel shaking when applying the brakes, and she would have to pump the brakes to get them to stop. This happens every time she applied the brakes regardless of the speed she was traveling. She has never had any warning lights to come on. Her husband told her that the shaking in the steering wheel was probably because the rotors on the brakes were bad. She called the dealership again , and they said there was a recall on the brakes, but they did not have the parts to fix it and they would mill the brakes down until the parts came in, to help eliminate the shaking. She never received any recall letters. A recall number was not available. In late may her husband took the car in to have the brakes milled down again. They put them on a waiting list for when the parts do come in. Today (7-15-05) when she went in, she was #18 on the waiting list; where in may she was #10 on the waiting list. The dealership will not relinquish any kind of receipts or documentation of the vehicle ever being there.

28 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2004 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 07/11/2005

At 6000 miles, the front brakes vibrated and pulled to the right on application. This occurred again at 11,000 miles and again at 15,000 miles. On all occasions the dealer resurfaced the rotors. Nissan advises they are aware that the rotors are too small but doesn't consider it a safety issue so they are only repairing the trucks as parts become available.

29 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2004 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 06/06/2005

Nissan has acknowleged that the brakes on Nissan Titan are inadequate. This causes the rotors to warp under even the lightest use. They told me that the demand for the replacement parts is very high, therefore the remedy is to go the dealership, have the rotors turned twice before they will order parts. I asked to order the parts right away without turning the rotors first and they declined. Meantime, I am driving a brand new truck with 6000 miles on it with warped rotors. I do not feel that I am in imminent danger however this is a braking problem which in my opinion is of utmost importance.

30 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2004 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 06/01/2005

When applying brake pressure at no particular speed the steering wheel violently shakes. The brakes do work, but the steering wheel is affected. The consumer went to the dealer , who said they could turn down the rotors, but the problem would return. The consumer did not want the rotors turned down, he wants them replaced. The consumer contacted Nissan of north America several times, and they will not return calls or discuss the issue. The consumer filed a complaint with Nissan. No repairs or corrections have been made at this time. The consumer felt this was a temporary fix.

31 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2005 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 05/27/2005

Contact states at 2500 miles the vehicle began to shake while braking. The rotors were rotated on the vehicle. There is a new brake kit available, but the service dealer and Nissan indicate the rotors have to be turned 3 - 4 times before they would replace the brakes. The rotors that are manufactured for the vehicle are too small for the design of the vehicle.

32 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2005 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 05/23/2005

At 941 miles, 9 days after buying the vehicle; the front brakes would make a sound when stepping on and letting off the brakes. It also felt like they were dragging. A lot of brake dust was also noted on the rims. It felt as if the front brake pads were worn out. The dealer checked all 4 brakes and gave my husband a "reason" why the pads were wearing so soon. Brakes on front found to be at 12mm with no abnormal wear. . . Rotors were said to be ok as well. Also noted a snapping noise when turning left , slow turns, sharp turns and when we almost would come to a stop. During road test they said they could hear the abs click and it was normal as was all other suspension. And for some reason the state inspection sticker had not been updated prior to our leaving the lot.

33 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2004 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 05/18/2005

The front brake rotors began warping at around 10,000 miles on my 2004 Nissan Titan. Was told that dealer would only repair brakes up to 12,000 miles. Now that I am replacing them myself!!!! Nissan is charging almost 100. 00 for the pads. . . . . . Hummmmm!!!.

34 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2005 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 05/13/2005

Brakes and rotors inapt to handle vehicle weight and stopping requirements. At 6,000 miles front pads were worn away and were grinding into rotor ,rear pads at 30% remaining. Failure Date: 05/09/2005

Vibrations in front end due to bad rotors. Took to dealer and he said they would have to cut the rotors and replace pads because of overheating problem with the rotors. Manufacturer said that they were aware of the problem, waiting to get new rotors so they can replaced. Manufacturer will extend warranty for 3 years.
