Nissan Titan owners have reported 57 problems related to brake light on (under the service brakes category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Nissan Titan based on all problems reported for the Titan.
1. The incident occurred Aug 11, 2010 while I was driving my 2005 Nissan Titan truck in heavy traffic at 65 mph. 2. The failure occurred when I had to apply foot pressure to the brake pedal due to heavy traffic congestion. As soon as brake pressure was applied to the brake pedal five things happened:
a. The brake pedal felt softer than normal. B. The brake pedal went further down toward the floorboard than normal. C. I heard a popping/pulsating sound as I had to apply the brakes. D. I heard a grinding sound as I had to apply the brakes. E. The instrument panel red brake light illuminated. I had no choice, but to apply pressure to the brake pedal to avoid creating an accident even though it sounded and felt like brake failure was occurring. This is the third time this type of brake incident/failure has occurred on my 2005 Nissan Titan. The previous two times this brake incident/failure occurred at a much lower speeds and I could not find relation to what was occurring when I inspected the vehicle. 3. Once I had the vehicle back under control I turned into a low traffic side street and slowly tested the brakes, but all five symptoms from above were still occurring. I also tried going in reverse very slowly, but the symptoms remained. I completely stopped the vehicle and turned off the ignition key and got out to inspect the truck. I could not see any visible damage to front rotors or calipers and I checked the brake fluid level, but nothing appeared to be wrong. I turned the ignition back on and the red brake light had gone off and the brakes were back to normal. I do not feel that failure has been corrected and that is why I am writing this complaint because I feel there is safety issue at hand. It appears to be some type of interment electrical failure interconnected to the brake system that clears the failure when the ignition key is turned off only to reappear at another time.

While driving applied brakes , brake pedal went to floor and metal to metal sound heard in front end brakes, I stopped noticed brake warning light on . I turned vehicle off and restarted . The brake warning light went off and brake pedal went to working normal . This situation has happened at least 5 times in the last month. There have been numerous reports involving this same situation and it should be addressed by Nissan before someone is injured are killed. I have made appointment with Nissan dealer. Vehicle mileage is 40,000.

Upon start up parking brake light on dash illuminated and remained on, however the parking brake was not set. Once the vehicle was in motion the brakes became ineffective. The pedal was soft and there was a pulsing sensation. If I had not been going less than 5mph I am unsure if I could have stopped, I was able to coast to a stop and place the vehicle in park. Once the vehicle was turned off and restarted all lights and problems disappeared and brakes functioned ok. I took the vehicle to the local dealer and they located a problem with the brake booster and/or master cylinder.
I have a 2004 Nissan Titan king cab. I have on a number of occasions had major brake related issues. You are probably well aware that the Titan had some initial problems with their brakes in the early models that were solved. However, the dealer has failed to solve more serious problems I and many others have had. In random situations, applying the brakes lightly and normally, the brakes basically fail to operate normally and when the pedal is depressed it offers none of the normal resistance and instead easily goes straight to the floor, emmediately this locks the brakes and causes the truck to come to a rapid and immediate lurching and sliding stop. So far, most times, I have be able to feel a subtle change in the pedal in time to change how I apply the brakes, but a few times I have been slammed against the seat belt and nearly hit my face on the steering wheel. Often the problem is immeduately preceded by a small sound that sounds like a spring coming undone. ( I know this may sound a bit rediculous, but it sounds like the sound a spring would make in a cartoon. . . "boing"). Every time this happens the breaks will remain in the same state, mushy and causing an immediate lock up until I stop and turn the engine off and back on again. The brake light comes on when this happens and goes off after turning off the ignition. Everything will be normal after restarting and the problem often won't reseurface for weeks or months. It happens to me about every 45-60 days and I can not reproduce it. When this first happend I took it to my dealer and they said they fixed it, but they did not. I found numerous reports of this problem online so this is real and not an isolated case. . Read more...
The most recent occurrence occurred yesterday 11/1/09 as I pulled out of a parking lot and put on my brakes and the brakes began to shudder and a spring like noise occurred. In addition the brakes were soft and scraping sound occurred when applied. This occurred each time I applied the brakes for the next 4miles until I arrived home. The brake light remained on the entire time until I arrived home. I called the dealer and made an appointment for today, Monday. Late Saturday, I had to move my vehicle at home and noticed the brake light was off and the brakes worked normally without any sound or softness. The same thing happened about two years ago. At that time I drove the vehicle to the dealer and left the vehicle with the dealer overnight because it was late in the day near closing. . The next day the dealer said they took the vehicle for a test drive and it reacted normally and "it probably was some dirt/dust in and around the brakes causing the brakes to stick'. . There was no work done on the vehicle. Today, the same dealer looked at my vehicle and ran some tests after I insisted this is the second time the same thing has occurred. This time the dealer found a defective/worn delta speed sensor and recommended to replace the brake booster. They said it is not covered under warranty as the warranty expired 1/1/09.
Brakes go into in abs mode for no reason, truck becomes hard to stop; road conditions were dry- 80 degrees and sunny. I was coming home from the Nissan dealer because of a brake, slip, vdc light (anytime) and brake light - abs coming on (only during braking), both are intermittent. The Friday before I had Nissan look at this very condition(s) they agreed I had a problem, and upgraded the software. 2 days later the light still came on and stayed on. The only difference was after shutting down the truck and restarting, the lights would stay on, something that did not use to happen. . . Nissan has a brake issue, I've seen many of complaints that are the same as mine- loss of braking because the abs kicks on (brake light comes on when this happens) and will not correct/stop it-self until the engine is shut down and restarted. Restarting the truck when the abs is hampering the stopping ability is not very practical, and very dangerous in most driving conditions. When this happened to me I came very close to hitting the car in front and swerved to the edge of the road. Since the 2nd visit to Nissan I had the master cylinder with stability control option replaced, that was the dealership recommendation after they downloaded the codes(x2), they stated the part had to be ordered. Cost for repair was quoted at $650. 00.
I own a 2005 Nissan Titan. 57k miles. Four time this week (week of 21 July) the abs system has gone out. I have to stop the vehicle and shut it off and then restart to have abs come back to life. When it goes out there is a clunking sound when I apply the brakes, and the brake light stays on. This is the second time in a year this has gone out and I have had to take it in to the dealer. This is a safety of driving issue, and should be permanently fixed by Nissan.
Problem started gradually as occasional noises, such as "clunking" and rattling, from the wheels while driving. Took vehicle in to dealer who could not find the problem. One day later while driving, heard awful grating noise from wheels and abs/vdc light came on. Took vehicle to dealer who stated that the emergency brake pad broke loose and destroyed the rotor, the abs sensor, etc. ($1,200 in damage). During the two weeks after service, the brake light has illuminated about 3 or 4 times. When the light is on, the brakes react as if in abs mode and grip and grind while stopping. Turning off the vehicle usually makes the light go off and the brakes then operate normally. The vehicle is currently back at the dealer, who stated they do not know what is wrong as they have not been able to re-create the problem.
Brakes on 2004 Nissan Titan failed while stopping at traffic light. Just prior to failure, brake light lit up on dashboard. Nissan dealer informed me that the brakes themselves were fine but that the computer that controls the brakes "lost its programming. " I was also informed that I am the 3rd customer in 6 months to have this event occur to them. To fix the problem, the dealer must "reprogram the vdc system. " dealer was unable to tell me why this happened or assure me that the brake failure will not reoccur. I was told that this is a known issue and Nissan has issued a service bulletin regarding this problem. This problem could have led to a catastropic accident had the brakes failed during a critical time. I am concerned that Nissan has a known brake problem, but there is no safety recall in place.
I have a 2005 Nissan Titan pickup. While approaching a red light at 30 mph I stepped on my brake to slow the vehicle. I heard a loud clunk, my brakes became mushy, there was a clicking sound, and my brake warning light came on. By pressing down hard on the brake pedal I was able to slow to a stop. I eventually made my way into a parking lot. I stopped the vehicle, checked the brake fluid and it was fine. When I restarted the vehicle the red light was off and the vehicle operated normally. It is now at the dealership where it is undergoing diagnostics. Brakes are the most important safety feature in a vehicle. They cannot spontaneously fail. This has been a growing problem on Nissan Titans and armadas and should be investigated. Thank you.
I have a Nissan Titan 2004 that I had for 3 years. The first couple of months everything was fine, but then my brakes would make this weird sound when I pressed the gas and the brake light would come on. I could not hit the brakes all the way because it would feel like if they were lock. . I had to stop in the middle of the road and turn off the truck and turn on again ,and the problem would fix it self. After a couple of times that it kept doing that , I decided to take to the dealer and they told me that the sensor light needed to be rested and that the problem should be solve. A couple amonths later it's started driving it again. It would maybe happens every other month . I used to always take the truck to get my oil change at the Nissan dealer shop and since the dos courtesy check they told me that my cv axles needed some work done because something was wrong with them. Of course they wanted to charge me a lot, so I had to say no. Now I have a truck that needs to have work done and very expensive. Now I can see oil leakage at the wheel bearing. My truck did not passed inspection this year because of that problem, so register my truck at another city and it passed cuz they were not checking those things. I have heard and read couple of the same issues that people are having with the back cv axle seals and bearings. Why would I be spending money on something that I would least expected. I would like to see if this issue be investigated. I got 2 kids under the age of 3 and I'm very concern on their safety. If Nissan is responsible for this , they need to take action immediately.
The contact owns a 2004 Nissan Titan. The contact stated that while driving 10 mph he applied the brakes and the brake warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. The brakes started to pulsate. The contact drove onto the emergency lane and shut the vehicle off. After restarting the vehicle, the failure did not recur. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and the diagnostic test indicated that the front brakes were worn out. The dealer replaced the front brakes and one week later the brakes started to pulsate while driving 30 mph. The dealer informed the contact to bring the vehicle back if the failure persist. The contact was concerned about the safety risk while driving when the brakes are pulsating. The contact called the manufacturer to file a complaint and the manufacturer refused to take the complaint. The contact stated that the sensor may have caused the brakes to malfunction. The failure mileage was 72,000. Updated 11/11/10 the consumer stated when he applied the brake pedal, it began to pulsate as if the anti-lock brake system engaged and then the brake light illuminated. Updated 11/18/jb.
The contact owns a 2004 Nissan Titan. The contact stated that the accelerator pedal automatically touches the floor and a grinding noise is audible. The failure occurs at any speed. The brake warning light illuminates and the vehicle comes to a jerky stop. The dealer duplicated the failure, but could not determine the cause. The current and failure mileages were 32,998.
Post that I submitted to Nissan: my Nissan 2004 Titan crew cab had a very scary brake problem today. I lost most or all of the braking capability in the truck. It had a clunking noise when trying to apply brakes. The brake light was on. I stopped the car. Ck'ed fluids (all ok) and restarted. Problem went away after restart. Pretty certain the dealer will not find a problem, they rarely do until it is completely broken. I have 51k miles and several brake problems. First: is this covered by my 60k mile power train wrnty and is there a fix? I have left it at the dealer today but I need to know where the manufacturer stands (in writing or a reply to this email). Second, since this is such a severe safety issue we will assume that no reply to this email within 24hrs means the car is ok from the manufacturer point of view and no issues known to the manufacturer exists that deal with brakes or brake failure. The d&t of this submission is 3:30 pm Feb 25th 2007. Cc of this submission has bee sent to the cpsc and the NHTSA. Tks for your prompt attention. Joe.
Brake light comes on and brakes make a grinding noise. It happened 8 times since owned. There is an extreme chance I will hit the car in front of me because of this.
While pulling out of a parking lot truck brake lights came on suddenly then brake pedal went to the floor when pressed. Brakes had a grabbing effect not a smooth stop. After truck was parked and ignition turned off brakes were normal when restarted truck. Its a good thing there wasn't any traffic and road was not level with minimal traffic at that time.
Brakes go to floor, have little braking and brake light illuminates during decent down hills. That is a bad time to lose the brakes.
Since purchasing my truck in August of 2004 I have experienced several brake related issues. I've taken the truck to the same dealer for service on each failure/issue. The break issues experienced have been brake lights turning on, brakes shuddering, the truck not braking properly, brakes not working until the pedal was almost completely pressed. Recently the truck failed to stop resulting in a rear end collision. The dealer has replaced/resurfaced rotors, brake pads and replaced sensors during the past year and a half. However, I continue to experience issue after issue regarding the brakes. I have had other defects as well, but the brake issues have been the primary issue.
While driving my 2004 nissain Titan crew cab pickup , I notice that my dash brake light comes on and stays on. I apply the brakes and the pedal goes to the floor. I then pull over and turn the truck off and then back on and noticed the light off and a strong brake pedal again. I now notice that this problem is happening atleast 2 to 3 times a day. I have to turn off the truck and restart so I can have brakes again. I have not taken my truck to the shop nor replace any parts regarding this matter.
Brake warning light on dash illuminated. When brake pressure applied, pedel went to the floor, brakes made a loud grinding sound and braking efficiency was greatly diminished. Had to drive onto right shoulder of roadway to avoid rear ending the vehicle in front of me. This problem happens about 3 times per year on this 61,000 mile vehicle. Took to Nissan under warranty and was told they couldn't reproduce problem and received no further assistance. This got me out of warranty. When problem occurred outside of the warranty again, dealer and Nissan consumer affairs stated the vehicle was out of warranty, and would not take care of same.
Randomly, several time a week. . And then not for months. . And then the symptom reappears. While driving the truck, the brake light will illuminate. If I depress the brake pedal, while the brake light is lit, the pedal moves to the floor easily, the brakes shudder and the feel of the power brake system is gone. The stopping power is dramitically compromised. The fix seems to be to pull to the side of the road. Turn off the engine and restart the engine. The brake light goes off and may remain off for days, the brake feel and function are fine. Then randomly, the problem will reappear. I can't find a code for it. A lawsuit was filed and settled in California for this issue. . See: the Nissan brake / delta stroke sensor class-action lawsuit was filed in the u. S. District court for the northern district of California - banks et al v. Nissan north America, inc. Et al. Believe the manufacturer should recall and repair. Scary when this occurs on a highway and the 5600 pound truck is traveling 60 mph or more. Sincerely.
While applying the brakes, the pedal went to the floor. The vehicle started shaking uncontrollably. The consumer noticed that the brake light appeared on the dashboard and remained on. The consumer drove the vehicle to the dealer for inspection. The mechanic informed the driver that the abs braking modular needed replacement. Please fill in additional information.
