Engine Exhaust System Problems of Nissan Versa

The contact was referred to the dealer for assistance. The vehicle was taken to an unknown dealer, where the contact was provided an estimate for a diagnostic test and the repair. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that she would be contacted later. The failure mileage was unknown.

For many years*, the exhaust from my Nissan Versa has made me sick (nauseous and headaches) similar to how vw exhaust would make me sick. I am concerned that Nissan vehicles may be cheating on inspections checks like vw was doing. Exhaust from many other vehicles may smell, but this particular exhaust is sickening. Our vehicle passes emission standards for MD each year and we always keep it well maintained. So again, I am concerned they have software that works to fool emissions testing by changing the exhaust allowed when hooked up to an emissions testing computer. For a point of reference, my parents own a 23 year old Ford explorer (also well maintained) whose exhaust does not cause me sickness. Muffler detached from exhaust system and required replacement. Other exhaust system components visible under the car (including catalytic converters) were observed to be rusty enough to suggest future premature failure.

Exhaust system rusted clear through at flange between pipe and muffler. This is far too soon for a car that has less than 50000 miles on it.

I have a 2007 Nissan Versa sl hatchback that has 55,000 miles. I bought this vehicle new. I started to notice that the muffler was getting louder and took it to a repair shop and I was told that the muffler flange had rusted completely through and I should take it to a dealer. The muffler shop says he has seen hundreds of these same exact problems on Nissan products. Nissan of course says it will cost hundreds of dollars to repair and says that it is not under warranty and blames it on road salt. The car is so loud I finally had to get it fixed.

Every time I ride in the Nissan Versa it has a toxic effect on me. I get short of breath and have coughing attacks. This will last days after being in the vehicle. There has to be some toxic items in the car for it to have effects like this on me. It gets worse as time goes on.

While driving on my road I heard a louder than usual exhaust noise. Inspection at my home revealed the flange on the exhaust pipe right before the muffler has rusted and completely separated. Taking it to muffler shop to have a new pipe welded on where separation occurred. Approximate cost was quoted at $100. 00. I have read of numerous Nissan Versa and Nissan murano owners with the same issue.
