Recall id 75918- engine and engine cooling GMC owner center, I own a 1998 Oldsmobile and has had several problems with the window regulators failing, signal lights, electrical, cooling system and coolant warning light since owning the vehicle in 2000. Engine and gaskets have blown, water temp has blown and after costly repairs, the low coolant light still goes off and on. Dealership always have to have light on to detect issues and still never detect anything. My coolant and levels are always checked and filled and the light still triggers on and off for awhile then return on again throughout car history. In 2008 my coolant light was acting up and I had vehicle checked out and fluids at approproate level. Vehicle ended up overheating on interstate and I had to replace water pump and something else. Light went out for awhile and vehicle checked out. In 2009 light came on and vehicle checked and all fluid levels correct. Light still comes on and blinks and goes off for awhile. Smells like oil or something burning in car. I was on consumer recall site and saw this engine and engine cooling recall from 2009 regarding the spark plug wire retention. I don't recall receiving this notification. I believe the last recall letter I received was in 2008 regarding the steering. My vehicle was taken to shop for that and checked out at that time. Can I still have my spark plug wire retainers replaced for this recall?.

40 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2000 Oldsmobile Intrigue

Failure Date: 02/03/2000

The car has overheated on 3 different occasions. The 1st incident was on rte 95 at night which makes for a dangerous situation. The dealer checked the car and claimed nothing was wrong. From this point on we watched and realized that the temperature gauge went from the middle point up to the top of the gauge frequently. We brought the car back to the dealer again and were told that gm said that the operating temperature was anywhere in the white zone. This past weekend we drove about 40 miles from home and twice the car overheated. The 3rd trip back to the dealer happened on a day that gm field techs were in the dealer service area. According to the service manager, these techs were aware of the problem. The temporary solution was to "shim" the thermostat. The service manager says that gm is working on the problem. My complaint is that the car can fail anywhere and gm is not telling their service people about the situation. I would not like to hear about someone getting hurt or killed because of a breakdown. Thank you for anything you can do about this situation.

41 Engine Cooling System problem of the 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue

Water pump leak at 47,000 miles. Fixed by dealer. Sound of fluid or water rushing through hoses when steering wheel is turned or when taking off from a stop. Fan on heater/ac makes screeching noise when turned on. Sound was originally a chirping or whistling sound, like bleeding air. Dealer has tried everything from "squirrles nesting in engine" to "coolant leaking on motor belt". Problem is not in motor, it is in air conditioning system. Now vent button indicator lights stay on all the time even when fan is not on. Have to drive car tomorrow to nh and need problem fixed. Hopefully, I will get results from dealer tomorrow.
