36 Air Bag Light On problem of the 1998 Plymouth Grand Voyager

Failure Date: 02/15/2003

We own a 1998 Plymouth Grand Voyager. We had received a recall notice regarding the front air bag (clockspring assembly). This notice was for vehicles with 70,000 miles or less (free repair). Our vehicle has 75,000+ miles and yesterday our air bag light is staying on. . . I do not think that it is responsibile for diamler Chrysler to set milage limits for repairs. We have a large family and us our van alot. . . Diamler Chrysler should not be aloud to set milage limits. Because of this decision, I will not purchase another diamler Chrysler product. Thank you.

65 Air Bag Light On problem of the 1997 Plymouth Grand Voyager

Failure Date: 10/15/2001

On approximately 10/15/2001 while sitting in the driveway, I noticed that the air bag light was on. At that same time, I tried to use the horn to let someone know that I was there to pick them up. The horn did not work. Since I did not want to pay the $70 fee to have the dealership "diagnose" the problem (without having any of that money go towards the actual payment of the repair), I decided to take it to my mechanic. He said that he would not work on any component related to the air bag because of the high cost of replacing the air bag in the event it accidentally deployed. He also said that since the airbag light was on, it could either not deploy in an accident when I needed it, or that it could deploy while I was driving and did not need it. He considered it a safety issue. He recommended taking it to the dealer. After doing more research, I have found out that the part in question is a clockspring wiring harness and that 124,511 vehicles have had the defective component replaced by chrylser. I consider this a safety issue, a recall issue and an economic issue. If Chrysler charges $70 per diagnosis and $250 for each repair of the 124,511 defective clockspring wiring harness/design flaws, that equals about $40 million. How much profit is Chrysler making on repairing their own safety related design flaw and how many people are getting injured because a recall is not being issued on this component.
