3 Air Bag problem of the 1999 Plymouth Grand Voyager

Failure Date: 09/20/2013

There was a recall on this vehicle. I took it to a local dealer to be fixed. Had classic "no airbag, no horn, no cruise" symptoms. Dealer replaced airbag clockspring, but did not fix the problem of "no airbag". The dealer's stance is "we don't troubleshoot, we only replaced the part. " they let the vehicle leave their service department in an unsafe condition without notifying the customer of an issue, which was only discovered after the vehicle was picked up. Dealer refuses to replace clockspring, and insists on a diagnostic fee to troubleshoot an issue that I have already diagnosed myself. I ended up having to obtain a replacement clockspring on my own, and fit it to the vehicle. The airbag, horn, and cruise control now work on the vehicle. Chrysler refuses to do anything about it.

7 Air Bag problem of the 1999 Plymouth Grand Voyager

Failure Date: 05/21/2004

Please note an error on my part entering data into odi #10073098: in the description, replace "/pwr. Steering failure" with "cruise control failure". I incorrectly typed 'pwr. Steering' in probably because I was so enraged that I had to pay the dealer one day's pay to fix their (christler's) problem that is an obvious defect and should not be my responsibility. Is the $240. 00 I paid to them the penalty the average consumer must pay to account for their engineering defects and ignorance? or is the real penalty the potential loss of my or one of my family member's lives for driving defective junk? .

27 Air Bag problem of the 1997 Plymouth Grand Voyager

Failure Date: 05/28/2002

I used to be a machanic, I have taken the defective clockspring assy apart and found that the wiring harness that is suppose to wind & unwind--I found an area that was bending/kinked instead so it was just a matter of time till turning the steering wheel enough the wires would break. In my opinion this is a defective part and since it plys a part in the proper function of the airbag system and horn this is related to a safety item. . I did see on your web site that there is an investigation on this right now.

28 Air Bag problem of the 1997 Plymouth Grand Voyager

Failure Date: 05/06/2002

In early June, my air bag dash light came on. I took the car to the dealer for repair. The charge for diangosis and replacement of this part (clock spring) was excessive. The diagnostic effort took less than 15 minutes, for which I was charged $99. Labor and parts were another $182. Out of curiosity I sought info on the web and found the ntsa site, where I learned that many other owners experienced the same gouging and that one owner had actually disassembled the clock spring and found that there was a clear problem with the internal wiring. First, Chrysler is making a very handsome profit on the part and second, the repair costs were outrageous.

Air bag safety light goes on and off intermittently. Horn does not function when light is on. Confidence in airbag is suspect, but not clear to me what the repair responsibility would be.
