In Jan of 2000 I had to take my minivan in to have the transmission
overhauled. I was still under warranty and the dealer wouldnt put a new transmission in, they
said they couldnt do that. Now here it is Aug 2001 and 20,000 miles later and here we go again,
I need a new transmission, upon contacting the dealer and having the vehicle checked now they
want me to pay $2300 to pay for a replacement transmission with a 3 year warranty. This is what I asked them to do at 47,000 but was told they couldnt. Had the replacement been
done at 47,000 miles as I had asked I wouldnt be putting any money out of my pocket. Your
assistance in this matter is greatly appreciated.

While consumer was driving transmission jumped out of place. It jumped into neutral, then into second gear. Contacted dealer, and dealer was not willing to do anything. The dealer indicated that the transmission problem was not uncommon for these types of vehicle.
Automatic transmission had to be completely rebuilt. It all started with just a small oil leak and turned into a major problem. They told us we were lucky we got it there when we did, or we would have been stranded somewhere on the road.

Dealer states transmission needs replacement ($1957). Since out of warranty, Chrysler corp. Unwilling to help - claim to not be aware of transmission problems on this yr/make/model. Also, dealer states vehicle leaking oil past cam shaft seals. Replacement to cost $1200. Have paid over $3000 on many other prior repairs on vehicle.
On 01/24/2001, I parked my car in my driveway, about 3 - 4 feet in front of the garage of my house. I went into my house and after at least 30 seconds to a minute or more (after I had gotten well within my house), I heard a very loud boom sound---like a.

Airbag light came on/criuse control stopped working. Dealer replaced clock spring assembly. At same time engine check light came on. Dealer replaced oxygen sensor. Also, transmission went out at 10400 miles, and emergency brake had to be replaced 3 times.
No summary.
There was no previous problems with the transmission. I started the van put it in reverse and it sounded like something came apart inside. There was no warning, now the transmission is locked up. I am aware of Chrysler's transmission problems and thought this should be reported. I don't know what would have happen if we had been on the highway when this happened. Thank you very much, roger cecil.
Consumer states while driving 20 mph the vehicle starts jerking and when stopped or put into reverse the vehicle will stall. Dealer replace transmission three times.
Vehicle pulls right while accellerating. Replaced was the transmission, power steering rack, axles, capers, etc. . (too numerous to mention). Alignments, swapping tires, etc, did not resolve the problem. Filed under lemon law, Chrysler is refunding purchase price. Vehicle is not fixable per dealership and Chrysler.
Air bags are something that should not fail on a vehicle since it is government regulated safety equipment on a vehicle and it is a low wear item. My airbags have failed and Chrysler expects me to pay to fix them. They have also tied the airbags into the horn and cruise control. I feel that since this is a safety related item, Chrysler should be responsible for the repairs. If these bags fail to deploy or misfire due to their design, I and my passengers could be severely hurt or killed.
Consumer states the transmission oil cooler was bypassed while a new cooler was on order, fire suspected to have started in this area (claim # 22-v361-586).
2nd time the transmission died, lasted 2 months this time.
While driving at highway speed transmission lost power, forcing consumer off the road.
My van is a lemon. All kinds of electrical problems - defogger sometimes work and sometimes not, windows won't roll down, stereo speakers sometimes works, instrument panel lights go off and on, dim yellow headlights, etc. Found pin hole in head. . . Defect in metal. Van over heated and gauge did not say it was hot. Fan went out. Now something going wrong with front end. Occasionally smell gas. The lifter head gasket now leaks oil. Van sometimes jumps in park and rolls. I can not afford to fix this stuff. . . Bail me out not Chrysler. . . .
The transmission just died. Luckily, we made it to our work parking lot and weren't stranded in a heavy traffic situation or in a snowstorm. Total cost of repair estimated at $1900. Environmental hazard of leaking oil when transmission case also cracks. Coincidence???: my boss just informed me today that his 1996 Chrysler product Mini-van with less miles than mine had a similar transmission problem some time ago. I believe the Chrysler product Mini-van transmissions are junk and Chrysler knows it, but the transmission defect only causes a true "safety" hazard when it breaks in a situation where continuing speed is necessary (like passing). Obviously, the transmission oil getting dumped on the streets when the transmission case cracks isn't good. But again, why would Chrysler care about a little oil?.
I have several friends with the same vehicle and the same problem(transmission ruined due to computer failure/malfunction. Also the master switch in these vehicles is faulty(that is the switch for windshield wipers/turn signal) that causes wipers to come on of their own accord. I am afraid to speculate on the problems that could arise if the turn signal portion was to malfunction as well.
Transmission needs to be replaced second time.
In November 1999 had transmission replaced. Currently, transmission needs to be replaced again. In December 2000, headgasket blewout.
Have spent four months going through repairs etc for problem they admit exists, and they can't fix. We were offered a new van 8/12/99, corporate told them to replace van same day, and they won't! we went tthrough CO's a g and the mtr vehlce lic board, who told us to start civil action, as did their own arbitration case adminstr. Since it a nonrepairable issue why can't they be forced to tell consumers?.
I was stopped at a stop light. Upon acceleration there was a loud thump. The transmission exploded sending parts of the transmission through the transmission case. My wife and kids were in the van. Someone could have been hurt if the parts exploded upward. I see several similar complaints for this model van on this site.
When backing out of driveway on a hill, it is difficult to put it into drive from reverse, causing the vehicle to roll backwards before it actually engages the drive gear. Dealer claims this is not a defect. Also, anti-lock brake failure reported previously.
When vehicle is in park with motor running, consumer can put vehicle into different gears and the vehicle will start to move. Manufacturer is aware of problem.
While driving down the highway car started to lose power, and then completely cut off.
I think it is awful to replace a transmission at 50,000, something is just not right! there should be a recall if others have experienced this!.
While driving vehicle hit a bump and the gears jumped from drive into neutral. The vehicle has to be put back into drive. Dealer has not seen.
Final drive gear failed, pieces of gear put two holes in transmission case. Had to buy new transmission and couldn't get $500 core charge back because case was damaged.
While driving at 72 mph transmission went out without prior warning.
