2 Dash Wiring problem of the 1998 Plymouth Grand Voyager

Failure Date: 05/01/2005

I see there is an investigation on Dodge caravan and grand caravan, Plymouth voyager and Grand Voyager and Chrysler town and country and voyager minivans from the 2001 and 2002 model years. Owners have reported that the headlights are flickering, dimming and periodically shutting down while the vehicle is in motion. The problem has led to the minivans being towed in some cases. I would hope that you can add my year minivan. I have a 1998 Plymouth Grand Voyager experiencing the same problems. I am not able to get it fixed because the mechanic can't figure out what is causing this. Is there anything you can do to add my vehicle to this safety investigation??? the headlights are flickering on and off, the dash lights do this at the same time. Sometimes the headlights just stay on.

5 Dash Wiring problem of the 1996 Plymouth Grand Voyager

Failure Date: 12/23/2002

Sub frame of van has cracked causing severe vibration. All motor mounts failed. My 1990 had similar problem. Van is barley drivable and unsaleable. Throw in two complete ac systems, two multi-function switches(looks like #3 is linings up), a clockspring(recall) and top it off with horrible service. Loyalty should be a twp way street!! ts.

6 Dash Wiring problem of the 1998 Plymouth Grand Voyager

Failure Date: 10/11/2002

I own a 1998 Plymouth Grand Voyager. It has 168,900 miles on it. For the past 13 months, we have had numerous occasions when as we are driving, all gauges will suddenly stop functioning. This includes the speedometer. When our gauges go out, the airbag warning light comes on, indicating that system will not function properly in the event of an accident. Are other voyager owners experiencing a similar problem?.

7 Dash Wiring problem of the 1998 Plymouth Grand Voyager

Failure Date: 09/08/2002

At 600 miles, instrument cluster failed, a/c not working, no reverse. Dealer replaced instrument cluster, could not duplicate the no reverse condition, and replaced the a/c fuse. At 6,363 miles, transmission slipping and scraping noise when turning left in reverse. Dealer could not duplicate. At 7,586 miles, no start condition on numerous occasions, after the dealer had the van for over a week, they finally duplicated the problem and and replaced the starter. At 36,141 miles the serpentine belt broke because of a defective tensioner pulley, dealer replaced the belt and tensioner, supposed goodwill, but we all know about the TSB, and all the other complaints. At 36,741 miles, leaking coolant, dealer replaced the rear head gasket, and did not even check the front head. (now who ever heard of replacing one head gasket on a v-6 motor, I guess Chrysler must think they are superior). At 53,000 complete engine failure, 2 hours away from home, and now waiting to see what the cause is. According to the service manager the motor is knocking and there is a lot of metal in the oil. And I forgot to mention that this vehicle has not even fulfilled the lease term. Nlm.

15 Dash Wiring problem of the 1996 Plymouth Grand Voyager

Failure Date: 10/19/1999

Reported steering problem in Jul 98. Dealer said they were unable to duplicate failure. Dealer was cutter Chrysler Jeep of waipahu. It has been a problem since purchasing the vehicle and seems to be getting worse. Now the steering is locking-up (intermittently) when I go over a speed bump, causing loss of steering control. The windshield wiper problem was corrected by the same dealer on 24 Jul 98 as a malfunctioned switch that was on recall and they replaced it as a goodwill repair because vehicle was out of warranty by mileage only. It once agian is failing intermittently. Both of these I feel are traffic safety concerns that the manufacturer should research and correct immediately. The power distribution center I believe is intermittently shorting out and causing many small electrical problems like radio works, then doesn't, lights go on by themselves, and things like that. Once again I feel that if left uncorrected this may also pose a potential traffic safety issue. All three failures I feel are based on vehicle production line problems that may be affecting many vehicles in the same manner. Please advise on what to do. Thank you for your time and effort on my issues and concerns. Sincerely, louis c. Martinez.

16 Dash Wiring problem of the 1996 Plymouth Grand Voyager

Failure Date: 10/01/1999

Since approximately 10/01/99, while car is operated, airbag, cruise control, and other electric features controlled via wiring located in the steering column become inoperable, indicated by the trouble lights which come on, on dashboard. For about the past one year the airbags and cruise control have continuously been inactive/inoperable whenever the car is being operated. There appears to be a defect in the steering column wiring system, and recently heard of many other similar failures, ones the NHTSA is even aware of, although I can find no report of it on this web site in either recalls or complaints. I'm very frustrated and anxious about this because I cannot afford to have all this re-wiring work done, but feel Plymouth should be responsible for a functioning airbag system at least.

19 Dash Wiring problem of the 1996 Plymouth Grand Voyager

Failure Date: 08/01/1998

This van was purchased off lease with 18000 miles and less than 1 year old. After 1 year the vehicle was out of warranty due to mileage (36000). The wipers would go on and off at will. The dealer replaced the battery for $100. 00. The problem continued and eventually lights started to turn on in the interior of the vehicle on their own. The cruise control worked intermittantly. The air bag light came on intermittantly. The body control module was replaced. We didn't leave the dealership and the problem started again. The dealer ordered another body control module. It has been 3 and one half years and now the problems are starting again. The vehicle has stalled on several occassions. The horn does not work. The cruise control does not work. The air bag light is on continuously now. We do not have the $1000 dollars for replacement of the air bag. We understand that there are others with this same problem. Is NHTSA going to make chrystler right these electrical problems. I have read about engine fires due to electrical shorts. It certainly appears that we are not the only ones experiencing electrical problems with our minivan.
