This letter is regarding a manufacturer defect in the 2000 Plymouth Grand Voyager and 2000 Chrysler town and country vans. There is an issue with the vehicles in wet weather. When it rains and the driver goes through water, the vehicles shut themselves down completely. Lights turn off, power steering is arrested, and the driver has to coast to a stop. This has happened several times to my parents, and more than once, they have had to secure the services of a towing company to get the vehicle(s) home or to a repair shop. This has happened at night on two-lane highways, leaving them stranded in pitch-black darkness. These are the only vehicles that my parents have to drive to and from work, which is an hour and a half away from home. My father has visited the Chrysler-Dodge dealership several times, and they told him that this is a large-scale problem with these particular models of vans. They are well aware of the issue, but there has not been a full-scale recall on the vehicles. There is a kit to fix the problem. The kit is over $300, and the onus is on the consumer to purchase the kit and have it installed. My dad spent over $700 to have the kit installed on both vans. This manufacturer defect is dangerous not only to the drivers of the vehicles, but to other motorists. Please consider doing a national recall for this factory defect.

While driving along at approximately 65 mph the gas gauge suddenly went from 1/4 to zero. In addition the tachometer went to zero , the temp gauge went to the off gauge and the speedometer went to 120 and stayed there. The abs light also came on and stayed there. This is a major safety defect and my research reveals that it is a known problem and due to poor cold solder joints on the instrument cluster circuit board. Multiple vehicle owners have reported this problem and many people have paid for repairs that they should not have had to pay for because of a defective printed circuit board problem. If the problem has been in existence since production it seems reasonable that the problem should be fixed at no cost to the vehicle owner. Not knowing vehicle speed, fuel level, engine temp is a major hazard and an accident waiting to happen.

I purchased vehicle used and found no problems with the vehicle with the exception of a squeaky serpentine belt. Put a little belt dressing on it and that was as far as the issue went. Then on a dark rainy night, went through a rain puddle-very slowly, and instantly, steering became very difficult. The worst part of this experience this night was trying to put belt back on pulleys, as you can imagine in the dark and no idea how to route it. Thank goodness there was a diagram in engine. With no knowledge that this was a very well known issue with these vehicles it was quite a surprise. After researching this online, and reading all of the consumer complaints I can't figure out what you people are waiting for!! fatal accidents!! there has been more than enough info submitted and documented to warrant a recall and have the manufacturer take care of this. Oh-but guess what? another company 'gates" has come up with a solution that apparently has had positive reviews. My order is in and I am awaiting my retrofitted tensioner belt component kit so that I will feel safe enough to be out on the roads and that I will not become a hazard to other drivers on the road with me. The federal government comes to the aid of a big company like Chrysler (Plymouth) even when it is more than obvious that they are building substandard cars. This is not a major repair, but it is certainly a problem that could very easily cause serious bodily injuries to many people from just one incident! it has now been fourteen years since this car was manufactured. How many years of complaints does it take to get someone to notice and take action? is there someone above you that we have to beg, please help us! the little guys. Why should we have to beg, "please don't let my car be the one that is going to kill someone. "make the ones responsible-be responsible! thank you (I think).

Serpentine belt falls off all the time it pulls inward tward the engine slightly any when it gets just a little wet it slips off. The tensioner pulley looks like it needed to becocked upward just the slightest little bit and then it dont move gates aftermarket product works perfect for all who use it chyrsler should be the ones paying to have this part replaced not us this is way to common of a problem .
Serpentine belt on 1999 Plymouth Grand Voyager 3. 8l has "jumped" off 4 times in the last year. Usually happens under wet conditions. Car has had to be towed multiple times. Repairs attempted include replacing tensioner, belt and simple reassembling.
1999 Plymouth Grand Voyager expresso dash panel has flat lined and all service lights remain on. Tach, speedometer, fuel, temp, rear wiper, and mileage no longer work. Vehicle sometimes won't start.
I own a 1998 Plymouth Grand Voyager se. My gauges (gas, temp, rpm, and gear indicator) are all out. In reading online, this seems to be a problem with other people as well. I have to use a gps to be able to tell how fast I'm going. I've twice ran out of gas while going down the highway because I can't tell how much fuel I have remaining.
Randomly a short circuit in the instrument cluster has developed in the 1998 Plymouth Grand Voyager. When this occurs, the dash board remains illuminated but the gauges do not function(speed, rpm, gear, temp, etc) and the vehicle doses not communicate to the transmission and the vehicle does not shift into overdrive gear. The brakes and airbag will illuminate on dash. The computer codes and reads ecm failure. Twice taken to dealership don drennan hoover al.
Air conditioning system: evaporator was replaced 3 times so far, first time being under 3 year warranty. Service engine light stays on all the time now, even after being diagnosed with "no problems" and being reset. Lately, the windows won't go up and down until the car is stopped and restarted. Same thing with the speedometer and the tachometer. They just "go dead".
: the contact stated while having a state inspection performed on the vehicle, the repair shop technician determined the vehicle did not have a check engine light. The manufacturer was alerted.

I see there is an investigation on Dodge caravan and grand caravan, Plymouth voyager and Grand Voyager and Chrysler town and country and voyager minivans from the 2001 and 2002 model years. Owners have reported that the headlights are flickering, dimming and periodically shutting down while the vehicle is in motion. The problem has led to the minivans being towed in some cases. I would hope that you can add my year minivan. I have a 1998 Plymouth Grand Voyager experiencing the same problems. I am not able to get it fixed because the mechanic can't figure out what is causing this. Is there anything you can do to add my vehicle to this safety investigation??? the headlights are flickering on and off, the dash lights do this at the same time. Sometimes the headlights just stay on.
All of the computerized gauges are inoperative while driving. Vehicle was taken to the dealer, who informed the consumer that this issue was not covered under a manufacturer's recall.
The vehicle will miss or turn off at random . Both when it is stopped or in motion at speed. The tachometer will fluctuate erratically or simply drop to zero. As of yet there has not been an accident (thanks in part to the alertness of other drivers). The dealer has taken numerous readings and exchanged numerous parts, including plugs and wires, control modules, neutral switch and fuel pump and filter etc. Still has the problem.
Nothing on dash board works.
While traveling on the highway and without prior warning the vehicle shut down.
While driving 30 mph or more the abs and the "check engine" lights illuminated simultaneously. The condition caused the instrument gauges and the power door locks to be inoperative. The vehicle has been to the dealer on three separate occasions. They replaced three difference sensors and a module and the problem keeps recurring.
Light came on for the airbags and brakes. Then, windshield wipers wouldn't work. Dealership is aware of the problem. Consumer states that other electrically related components like the windows failed as well, the dealer could not find what was causing the problem.
I was driving to the train station on the morning of August 29th when suddenly all of the van's interior lights came on. The lights stayed on for a few seconds and then went off by themselves, just as they had came on. As soon as the lights went off, all of the power door locks, including the rear gate, spontaneously unlocked. I re-locked the doors by using the locking switch on the drivers door. However, the sequence of the interior lights coming on, going off, and then all doors and the rear gate unlocking happened two more times, for a total of three times. It did not happen again after the third time. I called smith haven Chrysler Plymouth as soon as I got to work and made an appointment for Friday, September 1st. The problem did not occur again either before or after I took the car in for service. They could not duplicate the problem when they examined the car. But since the doors unlocked by themselves I wanted to make sure that it was reported. I often have my grandchildren in the van and even though they are always buckled in, I don't want to have to wonder whether or not the doors are going to someday unlock themselves. So far it appears to have been an isolated incident.
Consumer states the dealership told her it looks like some sort of fire damaged the electrical system in the car (claim # 13-7029-839).
Consumer states vehicle caught on fire while it was parked, insurance said the cause of loss is unknown but the only thing they know is that it was an electrical fire (claim # 40-2413-995).
Consumer states the vehicle is experiencing an electrical problem in which the abs and engine lights illuminate and the other dash lights go out completely, the dealer has been unable to remedy this problem.
Consumer states while driving, the vehicle caught on fire, it appeared that fire was due to an electrical problem (claim # 40-2269-222).
While driving the vehicle caught fire, it appeared to be electrical, claim # 40-2269-222. Nlm.

When traveling at any speed vehicle stalled and cut off without prior warning. Also, vehicle has cut off on the highway and at intersections. Consumer has contacted dealer, dealer has linked the problem to an electrical malfunction, but cannot determine the exact cause.
Veilcle has been experiencing ongoing problems with eletrcal system, which inturn, caused problem with windshield wiper motor,/oor motor, engine check ligh/odometer . Also, steering wheel woud lock up intermittently. Vehicle been in/out of dealer shop on eleven occasions, and no corrections have been done.
Car leaks at drivers side during heavy rains. Delaer been unable to correct the problem. The carpet has been replaced. Car is now experiencing electrical defects as a result of a) the leak itself, or b) removing and reinstalling the dash on numerous occasions to try and find the leak. I am allso concerned about long term rust as a result of the continuing leaks. The car is not able to be sold now as a result of the leak and continuing problems.
Electrical short.
Windshield wipers and the door locks come on by themselves, and the blinkers do not work due to an electrical malfunction in the vehicle. All these symptoms are intermittent.
Electrical system malfunctions causing windshield washers to go on for no reason and electric door locks that will not lock.
The vehicle is experiencing a loss of power steering,a/c,and the electrical system. Also, engine belt needs to be replaced. Dealer has replaced engine belt 3 times. The problem has happened 5 times.
Electrical problems with vehicle: headlights intermittently go out when switching from high to low beams. The dome lights will flicker constantly, windshield wipers intermittently activate when using the turn signals.
Due to an electrical shortage within the system, the abs warning light reamains illuminated, as well as the air bag warning light. The door locks do not lock and other malfunctions occur. Please give any further details.
If your not the correct organization to report this too, and you know the correct organization could you please forward this to them? this morning on the way to work my 1999 Plymouth Grand Voyager's electrical system cut off and cut right back on again for no apparent reason. The cd player cut off, the door locks activated, the lights went out but the abs light came on afterwards. I was not going extremely fast about 45miles per hour, on a straight road with no bumps or vibrations to shake something loose. I'm concerned because if this had happened while I was passing someone it could have possibly caused an accident. I called the dealer and was told no one else had complained of this problem but thought I should let someone know in case it was a serious, re-call type of, problem.
