About a year ago my Neon began leaking several quarts of oil a day. Currently it has developed another major oil leak. The mechanic I took it to, fosters in bartonville IL. Toold me it is a defective car and will keep leaking oil. My car has always been well maintained. Have any other Neons had major oil leak problems reported?.

I purchased a new Plymouth Neon 2000 on 12/11/99. I immediately began to have problems with the car. It was discovered at my first gas-up that I was a quart low on oil. I had also experience a problem with the vehicle losing power while I was sitting in traffic at a stop light. I called the dealership (windward Dodge-hawaii)right away. They told me to bring in the car for diagnosis. I was told that they could not find any problems with the car and could not find any leakage. I continued to experience problems with the car. Loss of oil, loss of power and stalling. I went to the local dealer 2 more times before calling the corporation to make a case. I continued to have problems after calling the corp and when I called the dealership a 4th time, they told me that my name had been raised in a meeting and that they would take care of me. When I got there, I surprised to be asked to purchase this new car at an additional $4000. I was told that my model was discontinued and the only car they had was an upgraded model which cost more. I raised holy hell in the place. The service department was ordered to fully inspect my car and pay for a rental for me. Still they claimed that there was no problem. Now, my car began to leak oil in Feb 2002. This time, the leak was visable. I took the car to 2 different repairshops, who told me that the problem was the cam shaft gasket. Then we took it to firestone on a military base. They said that it was the same problem and gave us a much better rate so we scheduled the repair. But, on the day that we took the car in to them, we got a call back stating that the problem was not what they had originally thought. It was the head gasket which requires extensive engine work. They told us that 15 cars had come in to them in 1 week with this same problem. They were all Plymouth Neons. (due to the limitations in this field, I am unable to fill in the details. Please contact me regarding what we have done since).

Leaking oil at 30500 miles, still under extended warranty. Was repaired by dealership. At 72000 miles, engine is leaking oil again. Took to independant contractor, has been confirmed that the head casket is now leaking in two places. Am taking auto to shop and service manager offered to fix with me to pay a $200 "deductible". Please advise if you have any additional information as to a recall or anything manufacturer is doing to correct this issue. Chrysler customer service says they aren't aware of any kind of head casket problems with Neons. That's funny how come everyone else in the free world knows of the Neon's casket problems? dt.

Gasket has oil leak, I had it fixed at mobil gas station the mechanics tould me that this is a problem he sees often on the Neon cars.
Consumer noticed an oil leak. This could cause a fire. Took to dealer and replaced the seal. Problem still exists. Took back, and they replaced the cam.
Since 1999 this car has been leaking oil. Replaced cam seal and head gasket once under warranty. 1 month later (when warranty ran out) had to be replaced again at a cost of 500. 00. 6 months later started leaking again. Took to a mechanic who said this is common for this type of vehicle. Replaced cam seal and head gasket again. 1 month later same thing. Said Chrysler had a new and "improved" seal. Guess what we are taking the car to the dealer again tomorrow. This will be the 6th time. I have probably spent on repairs the same amount I spent for the car. Chrysler won't do a thing for the consumers. If there is a lawsuit I would like to know about it. Can you please help?.
Due to the design of the head gasket, it cannot hold the oil pressure, causing an oil leak which may result in a fire. Common problem. Please provide further information and VIN#.
Camshaft sensor has leaked all the oil out of vehicle, causing 5 quarts of oil to leak out in a week. Dealer has been contacted.
While daugther was driving about 45 mph engine red light came on dashboard. Then she stopped vehicle and checked under hood where oil/ anti-freeze was leaking from engine head gasket.
Vehicle is leaking oil excessively. Contacted dealer and will evaluate. Repairwork at owners expense. Problem still exists. Provide further information.
Oil leaks from the head gasket at rear of engine. Aprox. 1 quart of oil leaks in 1-2 days.
The car started leaking oil from the rear of the head. We replaced the head gasket with a "dealer stock only" head gasket. The car continued to leak even after the replacement. We have been notified from two different Dodge/Plymouth dealers that this is a known defect, but the dogde/Plymouth dealers refuse to do anything about the known defect. I only want the problem corrcted before it causes more problems than is there. I have not put more than 100 miles on the car in the past year due to this problem. The car has not been registered due to it being inopperable. The only time it has been moved is when we moved.
Soon after buying 1996 Neon used engine started leaking oil. At first leaking was not too bad. After awhile it started to get worse. At this moment vehicle is leaking up to two quarts a week. Contacted dealer, and could not resolve problem.
Dash meters were already previously fixed but said I was going to be charged to replace the 2nd time since I wasn't under warranty anymore. The oil leak is said to be found in all Neons from the mechanics I took it to.
There is a oil leakage coming from the head gasket, and the oil is dripping out onto the ground. If keep on driving the vehicle will catch on fire. Also, if the oil gets onto the engine the vehicle can catch on fire.
Engine head gasket developed a crack which allowed oil to leak from engine. Consumer had this repaired in 1998, and in may of 2001 was having same problem with vehicle. Head gasket has developed another crack and was leaking oil. If the oils spills on the hot engine, there could be fire. Changing head gasket every 2-3 years is a serious problem.
Consumer had found oil leak on driveway. Then, had taken vehicle to dealer for repairs where they found out that oil was coming from head gasket. They said that this was normal for make/model and year.
Camshaft seal and sensor replaced due to an oil leak.
When accelerating the car pulls to the left, when decelerating vehicle pulls to the right. Steering wheel replaced, it was vibrating due to being out of alignment, rack and pinion and steering rack were also replaced. Excessive shaking while driving, dealer replaced tires, and balanced and rotated tires, however shake still present, dealer stated vehicle had torque pull and could not be aligned, also had bad strut, vehicle continues to pull to the left and right and shakes. Consumer noticed oil around the bolts on the valve cover at only 265 miles, dealer can not find any leaks, front motor mount had a lot of play and was replaced, oil is very dark in color, poor power. Cv joints bad. Dealer lubed and adjusted front windows, they were hard to open and close. Windshield wiper blades failed. Wrong air cleaner vent was installed on vehicle. Emergency brake was stuck on. Consumer states vehicle was taken to dealer on three occasions for brake problems. Consumer complained of poor gas mileage.
Vehicle was leaking small amount of oil, and was consuming alot a large amount of oil. Consumer contacted dealer. Dealer noticed that head gasket was pumping oil onto the road surface. According to dealer, Chrysler has upgraded the gasket three times. Please provide any further details.
A mechanic told me that up until the 2000 Neon, there are lots of reports of the head gasket being defective and my engine is leaking oil against the firewall and back of the engine. Is this a manufacturer responsibility for repair?.
Oil pan leak.
The engine gasket cracked and oil was leaking from the engine. The dealer has solved defect.
Had taken car back to carmax & they took to Chrysler dealership saying car okay. March 2001 had oil leak repaired by valve cover gasket. Problem months later leak worse & oil no in collant now told repair will be over $000 and no guarantee of being fixed due to problem with way Neon/s gaskets are made. Car must sit unused since no sure fix for problem due to manufacturing defect. Dt.
The vehicle is consistantly leaking oil around the headgasket. Every three days the consumer has to add oil. Please provide any further information.
Vehicle is leaking oil from the head gasket, mechanic informed consumer that this has been an ongoing problem with Neons.
Oil leaks from the rear of the engine, causing oil to leak on the exaust system.
Engine's head gaskets developed an oil leak. This caused the engine to seize up. Engine check light kept coming on. Took to dealership & mechanic indicated engine needs to be replaced.
Engine head gasket has been going out since 1/00, and now severe oil leaks , ive put in 5 quarts of oil in the last 3 days! (this seems to be a reoccurring problem in nearly all 97 Neons as, in my opinion, the manufacturer admits through at least two service bulletins) my check engine light comes on frequently and my oil light never goes off regardless of oil level in engine. I feel that the manufacturer is solely responsible for this head gasket repair and stronglt urge you to force them into a recall since they obviously are aware of the problem but refuse to fix thier mistakes. Also my turn signals do not turn off after completion of a turn this has occurred since odometer reading of 30,000. Interior door panel, passenger side, keeps coming loose from the frame, the dealer has repaired this twice but it is loose yet again. My interior roof light has not worked since first time door panel came loose. And lastly, it frequently happens that when my passenger trys to exit the vehice they receive a painful electric shock upon touching the door handle or panel. I sincerely hope you can help me with at least the head gasket default on my vehicle and once again I would like to urge you to force the manufacturer to issue a recall on this common problem!.
Reported problem with leaking oil with 20,000 miles. Dealer told me there was no problem. Reported the problem at 45,000 miles and then I was told it was a blown head gasket. I have replaced the head gasket 3 other times since this.
The defective engine head gasket caused a major oil leak. Yh.
