1 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 1999 Plymouth Neon

Failure Date: 02/05/2005

My Neon has 86,000. I have had it from new. In November of 2003, I had my second head gasket replaced. I believe I am on my way to the 3rd. I have an appt with the dealer tomorrow. I have had the egr valve replaced and my sunroof has not worked for the last 4. I had it fixed 4 years ago only to have it malfunction within 4 months. The dealer stated it was not under my warranty, even though I have the extended warranty. The last dealer admitted there was a problem with the head gasket from factory and Chrysler changed them. Apparently not since my head gasket went again in less than 18000 miles. 3 head gaskets in 6 years.

2 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 1997 Plymouth Neon

Failure Date: 01/12/2001

While traveling at 10-15 mph consumer pushed on brakes and there were no power brakes. Took to mechanic, and they said it might be the check valve, and they replaced it. Then it happened again, second time they changed brakes, and it happened again. An independent mechanic found information regarding a memo that egr vavle would correct problem because water got in it and froze up causing a loss of power brakes. Chrysler is denying any knowledge of problem.

3 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 1996 Plymouth Neon

Failure Date: 01/24/1999

Front windshield and the rear winsdhield freeze overnight in the wintertime. The egr valve busted open, and the car stalled continuously. It was unsafe and unfit to drive. I had a major oil leak and the engine head gasket needed replacement.

4 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 1996 Plymouth Neon

Failure Date: 12/15/1998

Transmission was replaced at about 35,000 miles under warranty, new transmission is beginning to slip. Headgasket has failed twice causing internal damage that the dealership won't admit to. Engine block or other part is cracked, leaking oil into cylinders 1 and 3, problem wasn't corrected last time in shop. Brakes fail regularly, especially under quick stopping attempts, even though the pads/shoes are still good. There is a gas leak that allows fumes to enter the car. Egr valve is broken and won't be fixed under warranty even though it's part of the engine. Paint is chipping on the bottom half of the car and the panels are now rusting. Car stalls in reverse. Car idles roughly even after tune-ups. Heat/ac knobs are cracked due to improper drilling.

5 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 1997 Plymouth Neon

Failure Date: 05/20/1998

Consumer states that vehicle exhibited an oil leak at the camshaft sensor beginning at 35,108 miles. The leak continued to 05/30/03, with numerous repair attempts by the dealer. Consumer believes that the egr valve is cause of problem. The egr valva can not withstand the internal combustion heat in an illuminum block engine.

6 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 1998 Plymouth Neon

Had taken car back to carmax & they had chrylser dealership look & car found okay. 3/2001 had oil leak reparied by valve cover gasket, replaced oil cap, degrease engine, new oil, etc. . Months later. . . Leak worse & oil now in coolant. Told repair will be over $1000 and no guarantee of being fixed due to problem with way Neon's gaskets are made. Car must sit unused since "no sure fix for problem". You can fix it but will happen again due to how gaskets manufactured. . . Oil leaking all over road ways from these Neons can not be safe. . . Hazard, I do believe. Now can not drive car. Dt.
