Major oil leak from head gasket which was replaced. Cracked manifold replaced. Blower motor to heater went out and was replaced. Ignition coil replaced. Also tires, brakes, struts, battery. When I first leased the car I had to get new tires as there were plugs in two of the tires and they blew out. When I leased the car it was 2 years old and previously leased. I had to have an engine mount replaced that was missing, left turn signal didn't work and that was replaced. Also, paint on hood is bubbling and is starting to peel on right passenger side panel behind rear window. Driver side window doesn't roll up tight and air blows in and it whistles. Also lines on windows on passenger and driver side from rolling it up and down.

I have had repeated incidents of gasket failure (both) with this 1996 Neon. I'm afraid to drive my car anywhere and rely on it for work. At this point I'm sick of hearing other Neon owners complain about the gaskets cracking and leaking oil, smoke coming from the back of the vehicle, etc. Chyrsler/daimler is endangering our lives. I had my spark plugs changed during a tune up and the mechanic couldn't believe how soaked they were in oil. My car could have caught fire. He said the entire undercarriag of my car is soaked in oil. Chrysler tried to charge me for previous repairs and said they had no inherent problems with the cars. But one of their employees, and former employees, have told me it's a design defect and even replacement gaskets will crack. It's a problem with the power vs. The manifold of the car (this is what I was told). Isn't it false advertisement to sell a car with a known defect to the unwitting public? do we need another firestone where people die from their car having defects? I plan to contact the better business bureau, my congressman, the environmental protection agency (major amounts of oil and smoke leave the car), and maryland state government. I want something to be done about this problem. The cars should be recalled or we should be offered deals on different model cars so we can get rid of this hazard. These repairs take more than one day because the engine has to come out. My mother is sick and lives in new york, I shouldn't have to drive a bus to go visit her because I'm afraid to drive due to oil/smoke problems. Consumers of the Neons have been duped and bilked of their money. Please investigate the Neon!.

The Neon was misfireing, replaced plugs two different times within 2 months, gas millage rotten took to dealer, they replaced the oxygen sensor, still having trouble, the car was in 3 times for that problem. For the past 1 1/2 months the vehicle has been loosing oil, leaving puddles all over, have put in 6 qts. Of oil on my own in the past 1 1/2 months, plus had a complete oil change. Found out the head gasket is bad, Chrysler says they have not hurd of any other Neons with this trouble. Tormohlens (dealer) also says there have been no other Neons with this trouble. Contacted other repair shops, was told this is a reaccuring problem with the Neons. Dealer offered to do it if Chrysler pay part, and then I have to pay $200. 00 deductable. If this is a known problem with Neons there should not be any cost. This is a problem that should be recalled if there are that many Neons with this problem. Vehicle was leaking oil from underneath the vehicle, and vehicle was blowing white smoke coming from engine manifold.

Oil leaked on exhaust manifold , possible fire hazard, major oil leak on ground, enviromental hazard.

Head gasket failure very common, causing large quanities of oil to leak onto exhaust manifold; great risk of fire.

Vehicle been experiencing various problem with the following: 1. Sun roof leaking; 2. Spark plugs failed, and had to be replaced on two occasions within a year; 3. Oxygen sensor had to be replaced on two occasions ; 4. The head gasket was replaced due to failure; 5. The exhaust manifold had to be replaced due to a broken bolt, causing engine to overheat, which results in intermittent stalling. Can NHTSA provide additional information regarding this matter.
