Left vehicle in park with air conditioner running, and about 20 minutes later van suddenly took off and hit a house. Shifter was set in park, but indicator set in reverse. Please provide any further information.

Transmission gear wore out. As a result, vehicle was not able to shift gears. Dealer advised consumer that this problem has occurred on other vehicles with same make/model and year.

3 Automatic Transmission Gear Indicator problem of the 1997 Plymouth Voyager

Failure Date: 04/01/2000

Engine check light comes on due to bad vibration, won't shift into gear, like it's running out of gas. The dealer replaced the oxygen sensor as a possible cause but it wasn't. Then, fuel filter was replaced but it wasn't again. Finally, the #3 spark plug wire was replaced and the problem was solved.

4 Automatic Transmission Gear Indicator problem of the 1997 Plymouth Voyager

Failure Date: 09/22/1996

The gear shift handle will move from park into any gear before putting the key into the ignition.

The consumer has experience the following: noise coming from the rear brakes, noise when starting the engine/uneven idle, the check engine light had come on/burned #5 exhaust valve-removed head/replaced valve/reassembled engine, the engine is knocking/internal rod knocking-engine had an oil leak/replaced gasket & the rear main seal is leaking (the vehicle is going thru 2-3 quarts per month), and when engaging in gear, the engine moves hard.
