My sons vehicle started off with a squeaking noise when he depressed the clutch. This went on for a couple of months he is now having difficulty shifting the car into gear and it nearly caused an accident the other day. When the vehicle is stationary, and the clutch is totally depressed it is extremely difficult to get the car into gear. When driving it is less difficult, but still very tricky to get into gear. We also noticed that when the clutch is depressed, if you raise the hood, you can see the firewall flexing quite a bit where the clutch master cylinder is located. We replaced the clutch slave cylinder and it did not help the issue. In my reading online, I have noticed many complaints from people related to the factory welds holding the clutch assembly to the firewall are failing. It seems to be a widespread issue for Subaru Imprezas 2008-2014. I would expect this to be a factory recall. My son can no longer use the car and we are unsure on how to fix the issue. Thank you for your assistance. .

The contact owns a 2008 Subaru Impreza wrx. The contact stated that when shifting gears, a crackling noise was present. The vehicle was taken to a dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact notified the manufacturer and no solution was offered. The failure mileage was 70,000.
Was at the local track on run what you brung night. Lined up against an srt-4. Light turned green. I accelerated trying to get a holeshot. I heard a loud banging noise. Sounded like the transmission/clutch giving up. The srt-4 was way ahead of me. I shifted through the gears and was not able to catch up. That srt-4 was fast. The lack of power in my sti really dishonored my family. It forced me to be humiliated. I took the car to the dealer and was told that the car was normal and to expect to be outmatched by cars like the Dodge srt-4. They never did tell me anything about the transmission/clutch noise.

Grinding of the gears when shifting from 3rd-4th gear. Started with a very mild noise, has progressed to a loud grind. Took it in for warrant service and they said that the determination of warranty coverage would be made by a regional representative after the transmission was removed. I checked on the internet and found that many other owners were experiencing the same problem and being denied warranty coverage after the transmission was removed unless they were willing to sign one time repair agreement voiding the remainder of the warranty. I have been told by the dealer that I will probably be required to sign one even though I have not agreed to have the transmission removed or dissassembled yet. They are unwilling to give me any information on the number of similar repairs that have been covered or denied under warranty and will not give me any objective criteria that will be used to make the warranty determination.
