My daughter returned from work two days ago and parked the vehicle, she did not notice anything wrong with its drivability. The next morning she started the vehicle and a loud warning tone was being emitted from the dash. She asked me to look at it and I noticed the brake and abs warning lights were on. I tried depressing the brake pedal and it went completely to the floor instantly. I tried backing up the vehicle to see if repeated braking in reverse would pump up the brakes as it does on some vehicles I have owned. That did nothing and also unlike other vehicles I have driven, the brake failure was total. There was little to no manual braking. Traveling in reverse at maybe 3 mph took four to five seconds to come to a stop. Had this occurred at 60 mph on the rural roads we live on, I don't think we would have been able to safely stop the vehicle. I can't understand why any car would be designed where some kind of electrical/computer failure would render the vehicle undrivable instantly. This could have been a fatal event had it occurred at highway speeds. In searching the internet and your 7 pages of brake related complaints on specifically 2003 4runners, there were overwhelming accounts of the brakes totally failing while driving, and many accidents reported due to this. This vehicle should be removed from the road immediately before further incident and Toyota should make owners whole due to this serious design defect.

Moving vehicle at school parking lot - 17 year old daughter driving about 3 months after getting her license. Vsc trac abs lights all came on, a low tone noise and the brake peddle was hard as a rock when depressing.
I have a 2013 4 runner sr5, that just turned 80k, driven by an older woman. While sitting in a fast food lane the brake, abs and vsc track lights came on along with an beeping alarm that would not stop. I turned the truck off and waited a few minutes and turned back on and still had the problem. When I moved I had no brakes at all. I had to roll the truck into parking spot and have the truck towed. Truck was taken to Toyota and they told me it was the hydroboost for the brakes and abs. Part was about $3000 and $620 to do the install. Everyone that I talked to said it should never have happened. Even the Toyota people said it should never have happened on this new of a truck. I called corporate Toyota and they agreed to go half on the part. My concern, if I was going fast or going down hill I would have probably been injured or worse. I had no brakes, zero. Has anyone reported this before? I have not picture of the hydroboost and I am waiting documentation from corporate Toyota. Part will not be in for 6 business days. This means I have been without a car for 10 days.

While driving on residential street at 30 mph, vsc, abs and trac dash lights came on and cabin alarm sounded. The brakes were not functioning. I had to use the emergency brake and evasive driving to avoid rear ending a school bus. After bringing to my mechanic I learned that the master brake cylinder had failed. The part is $3,100 from Toyota. Spending money on car parts and repair is all a part of owning a vehicle, but no car should be designed where the brakes completely stop operating because of an electrical short. It is insanely dangerous and this will cause deaths for sure, how can it not? I have researched this and it is a very common and well known issue. A lot of drivers have been very frightened by this issue, including myself.

After traveling at speeds close to 75 miles an hour. I exited highway to parking lot. Backed out and was unable to stop car from rolling. Moved car to new parking area and had to use parking brake to slow down. Shut down car check fuilds. Restarted car to loud buzzer and abs lights. Very concerned if happened on highway could have been fatal to myself and others around.
Takata inflators, abs. Purchased vehicle used 08/12/2016 the following mil codes were cleared by selling dealership. C1223, p0456, b1150, cr123, c1241, b1152. Needed repair immediately, passed state inspection even needing the following repairs, both front axles, serp belt, sway bar link and rear brakes. 08/24/2016 vehicle repaired by selling dealer and returned with flat tire, I had it towed to tire garage because spare was too old and incorrect size. After I picked up from tire repair I made an appointment for an unrepaired safety recall from 2012 on the abs at a local dealership. Prior to service appointment I was driving over a speed bump and the vehicle would not drive over bump, abs lights came on and vehicle rolled backwards. Had towed to Toyota dealer for service(I have receipt for tow) a couple days later dealer said recall was completed but would not provide any documentation for repairs. That dealership broke a lug stud on the front tire in but did not repair it. They said its ok to drive on 5 lugs its a 6 lug rim. I then brought the vehicle to another Toyota dealer for repairs because the vehicle started rolling backwards on inclines and not accelerating. Very scary because I almost rolled back into cars, also tire pressure light was on but all tires were inflated. They had it from 09/12/2016-09/26/2016. Unfortunately could not duplicate concern but did repair the lug stud, tire pressure sensor and recalibrated the abs and airbag light(I was not informed until picked up about the airbag). I also had an oil change. Vehicle having issues as of today right turns I hear a loud clunking sound and wobble when hitting bumps on highway speeds. . The ball joints might be bad. I can see them covered in grease and have play. I am concerned that the vehicle is unsafe and was in an undisclosed major accident prior to purchase. Next app is not until 10/24.

My wife was at the school zone taking our children to school, when she heard a noise and an alarm start to sound, the abs and track off lights came on and the brake pedal went to the floor, she was not able to stop the vehicle, fortunately she was on school speed zone and nothing was in front of her and the vehicle stop by it self because the low speed, she was about to enter on the freeway to take our son to other school and I can't imagine what could had happen if the brakes would failed while she was at high speed on the freeway. We been searching online about other people having the same problem and we found out that this been happening to other 4 runners owners and our biggest concerns is that this can end up taking others peoples lives, because a malfunctions in this vehicle, we took the vehicle to the dealer, and certainly exist an electrical problem and since then our vehicle has been useless in storage.

I recently purchased a new 2006 Toyota 4 runner. I have had nothing but motor transmission, electrical failures. I have only had my vehicle for 1 month and anything and every thing has gone wrong. I even had to give my daughter cpr on the side of the road due to carbon monoxide inhalation. She went into respiratory failure do to this she has severe asthma.
Info copy ltr fwd to Toyota regarding front suspension lower ball joint recall, customer dissatisfied w/quality of current Toyota vehicles. **reference 10140998*** on 2 occasions, the starter would only click. The vsc, trac, vsc off and abs lights illuminated and stayed on for a couple of days and finally went off on their own. Two weeks later the lights illuminated again, the consumer took the vehicle to the dealer and upon inspection, they determined a sensor inside the right wheel area had been damaged. The dealer claimed the consumer ran over something. The consumer refused to pay for the repairs. The dealer did inform the consumer if the repairs were not made the anti-lock brake system would not work.
