I bought a 2002 4runner sport from jim barkley Toyota in asheville nc. Shortly after purchasing the vehicle I noticed a vibration in the brakes. I had them checked and was told the rotors were warped and had them turned. A few months later it happened again ,and I had to put a new set on. Then once again I had to replace them, when we did we also replaced the pads and the entire system was not working and we brought the vehicle to the dealership to have it looked at, and they worked on it and stated that it would be $3000 to fix it because the calipers and actuator would need replacing. I am sure when I pay for this the problem will come back and they will try to get even more money from me.
Experiencing severe vibration when braking at speeds over 50 mph. Steering wheel vibrates and control is difficult. Identified as warped rotor. Toyota dealer wants to charge to replace front caliper/rotor with larger design. Claims that its common to have it fail shortly after warrantee coverage. (failed at 50000, coverage to 36000) purchased vehicle with 17000 miles and rotors/pads look good.

Consumer complained about vehicle vibrating when applying the brakes. Consumer replaced the front pads and both front rotors. Within two weeks the problem recurred. Dealer was contacted.
I have 49,000 miles on Toyota 4 runner and am on my 4th set of rotors. Dealer claims it is our driving habits and not the fault of the design. They are 16" brakes on 16" tires; tires are oem from goodyear.
- the contact owns a 2003 Toyota 4 runner. The contact heard a noise coming from the front brakes. The contact had to apply the brakes with great force for the vehicle to stop. The vehicle slid to a stop. The dealer's diagnoses was that debris in the rotors caused the noise. However, they were unable to diagnose why the vehicle could not stop without sliding. The front brake pads were replaced, and the rotors resurfaced. The failure mileage was approximately 900 miles. The contact has the repair order. The current mileage was 40,000 miles.

Warped rotors on my 2000 Toyota 4 runner 2wd sr5 causing vibrations problems at 37,000 miles. This very common problem should be fixed at Toyota's expense.
I have a 1996 4runner and I have noticed that it vibrates when I brake hard, especially when I go downhill. I can feel it in the steering wheel. When I applied the brakes my truck started shaking like a earthquake. It was very serious. I almost lost control and I could have died. It only has about 70,000 miles on it. Brake pads are ok. Front brake rotors are defective. The dealership (kerry Toyota - florence, ky) replaced my front rotors at 18,000 miles due to warping. They are now vibrating again (36,800 miles) due to warping. I still have the original brake pads (only 50% worn). The dealership is now suggesting that the rotors be turned ($138)which I feel is only a temporary fix. They say its 'normal wear and tear'. I completely disagree. I'm not towing anything nor do I live in a mountainous area where long down-hill braking could be an issue. This is clearly a design flaw on the part of Toyota.
I have less than 50,000 miles and I am on my 3rd set of rotors. The last set lasted less than a year. I don't understand why this is happening. The rotors sure look small for the size of the truck and the size of the tires. I can tell you that I have never had to replace rotors before on any of my vehicles. The dealer said it could be my wife's fault. I don't know what that means. . Please help me.
Rotors warped for the 3rd time.
While driving 45 mph had extended stopping and brakes vibrated when applied. Front brake rotors were warped and had to be replaced. Consumer feels this happened prematurely.
Service dept. Said rotors overheat and warp because of where I live.
While traveling on the highway the truck has a thumping noise coming from the rear. The dealership is aware of the problem. The right rear seat will not fold. The brackets have been replaced twice and the seat is still half way folded. Also the door indicator light illuminates and does not go off and the locks will not lock. They were inspected and no problem was found. The driver side mirror is falling. The brakes needed repairs performed. The front rotors had excessive rout out.

My dealer told me that under normal driving contions, that my rotorswill get out of true. They say this is do to heat, aka long braking, down hill. I talked with my service manager at fremont Toyota about this and his 4runner does it, but is a few years older than my truck. If the rotters heat and get out of true and while braking downhill the front end of the 4runner has a magjor vibration and the truck feels like its you could lose control. I have talked with other people about and they(old Toyota works, etc. ) say that the 4runner braking system is not designed right. If the rotters get out of true under normal driving condition the rotters get out of true, caused by heat; it seems that the heat disapation for the fron brakes needs to be better and or a bigger/harder rotter to handle the wight of the truck and it brakes and the rotters heat up.
Front rotors are warped. Dealer has inspected vehicle and will replace rotors.
Rotors overheat, warp. Dealer states it is because I live where few roads are straight.
This is an intermittent problem that during braking at various speeds on varying roads surfaces and hills the front end of the vehicle shakes to the point it feels as if the driver may lose control. August 1999 took to auburn Toyota and they stated front rotors were extremely warped and were replaced. The problem continued first being noticed the next day. Again in November 1999 the vehicle was taken to service, this time they could find nothing wrong. Again this problem is intermittent--you could literally brake feel the vibration, let off, apply the brakes again and feel no vibration. Other times it may be a little more persistent. Most of the time the brake system seems to function normally, but at times the frontend vibrates something fierce. That also varies. Sometimes it is a slight vibration, and other times it vibrates up through the steering wheel quite severely. The simple answer from Toyota is it must be the rotors or we couldn't duplicate the problem. My concern is that we arrive at a more understandable explanation and hopefully a solution. Can abs create a vibration if the system is not pulsating like it should?.
Continuing problems with excessive vibration when applying brakes. Entire vehicle vibrates.
Front brake vibration. 2nd failure due to warped rotors.
The rear axle seal leaked oil, contaminating rear brakes, and causing rear brakes to become inoperative. Also and premature wear of front brake rotors.
Brake rotors have been replaced 6 times due to warping. Dealership informed consumer that defect was due to driving habits of his wife.
Within year rotors had to be replaced, under warranty. Was told by service manager at dealership was due to braking excessively during rain on long downhill run. Suggested to gear down which I now do. Situation did not repeat except that I now intermittently experience similar "pulsating" while braking. Was told by another repair service that I would eventually have to replace rotors.
Vehicle shimmies when stopping due to warped rotors.
The vehicle has the brake system for a 15 inch rim, however vehicle came stocked with 16 inch rims which requires a larger 16 inch rotor, the consumer requests that the dealer provide the vehicle with the appropriate rotor because the vehicle has experienced poor braking and premature wear of the brakes. Nlm.
Whenever brakes are applied would have vibrations while going up and down hills. Took to dealership, and had rotors and pads replaced due to warping.
