36 Equipment problem of the 2013 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 07/26/2019

My vehicle while holding the brake (stationary) at a stop sigh, the vehicle accelerated and hit the back of the car in front. . For 5 days it worked and the following Wednesday it accelerated again ( in motion) while parking in the handicap space at idle speed and brakes. Toyota motor north America, inc. Sent me a letter that stated that they could not find any problem with the vehicle. Their inspector called me and told me the car worked great and the master warning signal was not flashing nor buzzing and he would send me a copy of the computer print out but it was never sent. I did get some kind of a record but it could not be copied, I took a picture of it but it is in some type code( a computer file) the test consisted of a acceleration and stopping test 22 days after the 1st incident, the car worked well for the days between the incidents. The master warning signal was flashing and buzzing, instructions was to stop the car and have it towed to a dealer they described one incident , I don't know which incident they checked for there were two incidents 5 days apart. The report is a sham I can send you a copy of their letter. Text a copy of this computer info or forward the e-mail with the computer info that I could not copy with my copier. I don't understand any of the computer info. .

37 Equipment problem of the 2013 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 07/11/2019

The rear window shade (which should automatically go down when you put the car in reverse) was stuck in the up position which made it difficult to see clearly when backing up also at night. Toyota said it was not warrantied and that they would not be responsible for the coast $1400 to replace a bad motor even though I said it was a safety hazard. In the end I paid $395. 58 to have the motor disconnected so I could see clearly out the back window.

38 Equipment problem of the 2005 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 06/10/2019

On 2005 to 2008 Toyota Avalon limited models the 3rd break light works sometimes and other time it doesn't I have looked on a lot of forum and so many people are complaining about the same problem and I got a warning for it.

41 Equipment problem of the 2007 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 06/01/2019

The rear sunshade went up on it's own when I started my car and now it will not go down. My car makes a loud grinding noise when put in reverse. This seems to be a common problem for many years with the Toyota Avalon limited with many complaints on line. It is a safety hazard when backing up or driving at night. This is not an easy fix and typically costs well over $1,000 to repair.

42 Equipment problem of the 2015 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 06/01/2019

Unknown leaking. We have narrowed down to the sunroof or top portion of the windshield. Can not pin point leak, but after covering with tarp in particular areas we have narrowed it down to the sun roof or w/s. The drain plugs are clear in the sun roof.

43 Equipment problem of the 2011 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 05/19/2019

Telescoping steering column lock loosens while driving causing steering wheel and brakes to shake. Advised my local Toyota dealer and they said it was not covered under warranty but I could pay them to repair the issue with a upgraded repair that Toyota has identified. A notice was never sent out to Toyota owners. This should be a recall notice. Safety issue while driving. Service bulletin (#00206, NHTSA # 10019669) they now inform me of a known issue with the telescopic lever detent clip and a technical service bulletin TSB-0147-13 and also that Toyota had a warranty enhancement program - zty to address it which expired in September of 2019. I don't understand how this is not a safety recall that Toyota should continue to stand behind.

44 Equipment problem of the 2014 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 05/15/2019

Pre-collision system (pcs). My vehicle is having the issues identified in NHTSA campaign number: 15v728000. The dealership looked but didn't do anything more than attempt to recreate. They did say, the problem is most likely the pcs misreading objects on the road, which is what your recall notice states. Can you please include my vehicle in this recall. It is dangerous for this warning system to activate, falsely notifying of emergency when there is none. I purchase this vehicle on 5/3/2019 as a Toyota certified used car. Within days of purchasing I began having this pcs warning light and beeping going off and the break light coming on. The breaking system has not automatically been engaged but I am very uncomfortable when I drive. At best, it is a huge distraction to the driver.

45 Equipment problem of the 2018 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 04/23/2019

The back up camera display clearly shows the rear license plate. Vehicle purchased may 25, 2018. The camera and display worked fine until 4/23/2019, did not show the rear license plate. Bill wright service of bakersfield, CA stated that this was 'normal' and refused to consider any re-do or repairs. Called Toyota factory service (courtney) at 1-800-331-4331 and she stated that she was unaware of the problem and had no solutions for me. Contacted California bureau of auto repair (bar), they investigated the problem and only wanted to check installation measurements. I firmly believe that the installation of the camera is ok but believe that the camera lens now shows a distorted view I have two photos that I will try to attach which will illustrate what I believe is the problem. I believe that much use of closing the trunk has caused the camera lens to shift downward. Not a very good safety device as per pl 110-189 2/28/2008 contacted the bill's sponsor, (xxxx), but she was not interested in pursuing this problem. One picture I have is a late model Toyota corolla with no evidence of a rear license plate, and the other is my vehicle camera view clearly showing the rear license plate. 47 Equipment problem of the 2002 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 03/24/2019

While at the store I found I can turn the car off and remove the key and get ou while the car is still in gear. If you are not paying attention the vehicle can roll away, causing personal and property damage and possible loss of life.

48 Equipment problem of the 2016 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 03/08/2019

The front to back side rubber weatherstripping that moves with the sunroof as it opens and closes continues to fall off. There are two pieces like this, one on the driver's side the other on the passenger's side. The two pieces, each about 18 inches long and two inches wide, look like black rubber small accordions. While driving and opening or closing the sunroof, these strips fall off. Dealer has reinstalled multiple times, but they continue to loosen and fall off with the movement of the sunroof. Sometimes this will occur while driving at high speeds and disrupt the driver, in the last instance I experienced, while going 70mph and falling onto my head and disrupting my vision for a second. The dealer (and I) "fix" this condition by reinstalling the loosened piece. But the problem recurs and, in my view, is a safety hazard. I cannot get the dealer to focus on the seriousness of this problem and the potential jeopardy in which it places drivers. A better fix, than simple re-installation is required.

49 Equipment problem of the 2019 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 01/29/2019

Both blind spot monitoring and cross traffic alert - malfunction alerts, keeps popping up regularly. Multiple trips to the dealer, with no resolution. Toyota indicates that this is a prob and are working on an solution. It is not clear what that is. Seems like issue pops up more when it is very cold or very wet. Toyota says they are looking into it, but not sure what their plan is. Toyota case #1901292206 for today.

50 Equipment problem of the 2005 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 01/01/2019

Leaks. My stereo system shorted out due to leaking water from windshield area. I since learned Toyota knew about at least 2 leaking problems (in TSB’s) however the coverage was only for 36,000 miles or 36 months. I didn’t detect these issues until after that time. Now it will cost thou$ands to remedy.

51 Equipment problem of the 2005 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 10/21/2018

The rear sunshade won't go down and it's stuck in the up position hence causing poor visibility when driving at night.

52 Equipment problem of the 2014 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 10/11/2018

Sudden acceleration on 6-7 occasions. At traffic light coasting foward with very light brake pressure car accelerates, rpms run high, have to apply "heavy pressure" on brake pedal to stop. Also pulling into a parking space, coasting, light pressure on brake car accelerates foward. Anytime I stop for light I now place car in neutral and apply heavy brake pressure. I have had this car back to dealer several times on two occasions they have opened a case number with Toyota checked the car and have told me everything is ok. This started and milage approx 9700. Toyota will be opening another case file 10/16/18.

53 Equipment problem of the 2016 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 10/03/2018

There are two pieces of accordian shaped trim that continually fall from inside the sunroof. I have had the dealership reinstall them - and they charged me. However, they continued to fall from the sunroof and they are now stored in the trunk. Poor design. Plus, not too safe having this rubber part fall onto your head while driving down the road. The adhesive on the part may not keep the part in its proper place, but the adhesive does do a good job sticking to my hair.

54 Equipment problem of the 2001 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 08/07/2018

We went to get our truck inspected at an independent garage and he said he couldn't inspect it because the frame was to rusted. We contacted our Toyota dealer over the telephone and explained to them what happened and said it was under recall which we had just found out. They then told us their is nothing they could do. We told them we would have addressed this situation earlier if we would have gotten notification that they were being recalled now our truck is not safe to drive due to the rusted frame and a Toyota dealer never even looked at our vehicle.

55 Equipment problem of the 2008 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 07/10/2018

The dashboard gets sticky on sunny days and the surface becomes shiney which then reflects off the windshield. The reflection (on the windshield) significantly obstructs drivers view of oncoming traffic or pedestrians on sunny days. Driver is blinded or it is impossible to see through the reflection. This is a dangerous condition and a significant safety issue for the car owner and the public (accident can affect other vehicles, property, or pedestrians) that needs addressed as a permanent solution by Toyota corporation for all affected vehicles on the road. The vehicles are in motion and stationary when this occurs. Any recall should be extended by Toyota to all vehicles having this condition that are currently driven and not limited to any arbitrary date of coverage. Dashboard replacement by Toyota corporation is currently known to be the only solution.

57 Equipment problem of the 2006 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 05/01/2018

Toyota company refuse to honor my complaint that I did not receive any letters regarding a recall on my 2006 Toyota Avalon. Toyota company states that the recall on my 2006 Avalon has expired. Toyota company stated they mail out a recall letter to my address in 2015 and 2017. I did not receive the letter at my address. I live in a mobile home park where its about 30 mobile homes is located with the address, except the lot number is different. I search through my mail to double check and I do not have any letters regarding a recall. I called last year (2018) because I notice several splitting line across the dash board of my car dashboard and it has a sticky feeling by touching. I have read several emails stating "accordingly, per websites on recall there is no time limit on getting a recall fixed, and most dealers should honor the recall and fix your car free of charge. The only exception is if your vehicle is older than ten years at the time of the recall, the dealer may not fix the vehicle for free. Regardless, you should still make the necessary changes or contact the automaker directly and let them know of your predicament". My predicament is I do not want anything to happen and I cannot afford to pay the cost to replace the dashboard. All I want is for them to realize that my defect for the recall did not show until last year. I get my car service every year and there was no visible defect on the dashboard.

58 Equipment problem of the 2018 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 04/29/2018

The pre-collision detection system does not operate. Dealership mike erdman Toyota or Toyota headquarters in texas will put in writing that the system works nor will they do an actual test to prove that it is operational. All they will say is that the computer analysis says it should be working. It does not work and will not stop the car in any circumstances or warn you of a potential danger!!!!!.

59 Equipment problem of the 2016 Toyota Avalon

The vehicle was destroyed and towed to an undisclosed location. The cause of the failure was not determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but the local dealer was not notified. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 22,000. Jft.

60 Equipment problem of the 2002 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 04/03/2018

Moving my car from a to b put it in reverse it just took off by it self. It was going so fast I could not stop it even pressing the breaks it still went fast on it on. I started screaming why this car going so fast and why I can't stop it. It stopped when it hit the carport and to sienna van under the carport. Which my vans are damage very bad. I call Toyota corporation and told them what happen. They asked me what I wanted from Toyota I said my car carport, and both vans fix. They gave me a claim number. So they are having an inspector to inspect it I will have to pay to have it towed. They work for Toyota and may say the car is fine but I know what happen to me. It is scary, I could have been killed. In my own backyard.

61 Equipment problem of the 2006 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 04/01/2018

Dashboard is "melting", sticky and shining, which causes problems with visibility through windshield. (safety concerns) I am also concerned with toxic gasses produced from the breakdown of the materials in the car. Contacted Toyota about the problem and was told that they no longer replace the dashboard free of charge. Will be charged approximately $2,000 for replacement. This car has been kept in a garage most of the time, not in direct sunlight.

62 Equipment problem of the 2018 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 03/09/2018

A. Day driving impaired visibility-rear windshield: a rear windshield visibility problem exists with the 2018 Toyota Avalon on sunny days. . The combination of the steep angle of the rear windshield and the light interior on the back deck behind the rear seats creates a glare onto the rear windshield. The glare is the reflection of the rear deck panel onto the entire rear windshield. It is a distraction to the driver because it is difficult to see clearly cars approaching from behind through the rear view mirror. Instead of looking through the rear window, the driver looks at the rear window which causes more distraction. This lack of clear visibility can potentially cause an accident. Toyota has had this problem since 2013 (NHTSA 10505067) and should have solved it. Photo image 5288 clearly shows the reduction in visibility caused by the glare which appears as a haze across the entire rear windshield. Photo image 5289, problem mitigated by using a darker interior (for contrast, black towel on left side) on the back deck. B. Night driving impaired visibility-rear windshield headlights of approaching cars from behind shine though the rear windshield, and create vertical columns of dashed lines as shown in photo bw1, with window film. These lines are spaced in proportion to the distance between the heater strips in the rear windshield. And obstructs the drivers view. Without window film, this night effect is still not eliminated as shown in photo bw2. Toyota has built this Avalon from 2013 through 2018, and should have fixed these design flaws; (1) the daytime glare on the rear windshield on sunny days, and (2) the night time vertical column of dashes created by car's headlights shining through the heater strips on the rear windshield. A claim has been filed with Toyota by the dealer, but Toyota hasn't gotten back to me.

63 Equipment problem of the 2014 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 02/28/2018

All leather areas are sticky and difficult to use in the cabin. The dash, all covers, shift nob, center console, and steering wheel. This makes it very difficult to operate the vehicle where everywhere you touch is sticky. It also has an odor and mold/mildew smell. Toyota refuses to repair.

64 Equipment problem of the 2006 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 02/01/2018

Electric rear window sun screen is stuck in the up position. This reduces visibility especially at night. When vehicle is place into reverse the motor tries to lower the shade but fails. I have seen many similar complaints on the edmunds forum. Since the average Avalon owner is 65 years of age the reduced visibility at night is greater risk due to the reduced night vision based on the owners age.

65 Equipment problem of the 2013 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 08/24/2017

Rear window is distorted making it impossible to see clearly, while sunlight disables the back up camera so I'm not able to clearly identify pedestrians. I've owned 5 Toyotas since 2005 but this one is the worst and unsafe vehicle I've ever owned.

66 Equipment problem of the 2011 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 08/10/2017

2011 Toyota Avalon limited with 80,000 miles. The rear sunshade has begun operating on its own. It raises and lowers without my pushing button, it does this during daylight and at night. Hinders backing, especially at night. I have read on the "net" this is typical at this mileage.

67 Equipment problem of the 2009 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 06/26/2017

My car is a push start button. A few weeks ago, my vehicle would not start so had to have someone check it out only to find out it was the battery in the remote. And the 2nd remote had a dead battery. Fortunately it was in my driveway. What if this had happened when traveling to my hometown in canada and I got stranded in the middle of nowhere. How did this push button start get passed by safety. Am I the only one complaining about this. This is a serious matter. Is there a way I could have a regular key ignition put in to the car?.

The rear window sun shade screen does not work properly. Sticks in up position blocking site out rear window. With screen down while cranking car, putting car in reverse causes a loud noise of gears stripping. There are hundreds of reports on the internet complaining of this problem on all Toyota products that have this screen. This is obviously a design flaw and should be subject to recall. Scout navigation system works with my android phone. When the phone enters time-out mode, the navigation on the vehicle is frozen. To restore service, the driver has to pick up the device and swipe the screen in order to re-establish the scout application. Removing your eyes from the road and hand from the wheel while driving is not a safe procedure and should not be required by the product in order to run.
