I was driving on the freeway at 60 - 65 mph. I am a cautious driver and am always aware of the conditions around me. Suddenly, my car just took off like a shot. It was going at an extremely high speed on the freeway. I had no control over it. There are dark skid marks on the road from my braking. I tried to turn the car to straighten it out, but the next thing I knew I had flipped into the median. I flipped two times in the air before crashing, hood first, on the median. I did nothing to cause this. I was merely driving, in the slow lane, at a safe speed. It is a miracle I am alive, and even more-so that I wasn't injured. The air bags did not deploy. At the end of the accident, my seat belt was unlatched. I am going to receive a citation for this. I have done research on 2005 Camry's since this happened, and have seen that it is a common problem. People have been killed from this fault and I nearly was. I want to know why Toyota didn't warn us of this. I know the VIN number says no recalls have been made on this model, but research tells me that involved research in self-accelerating gas pedals report disturbing evidence of problems potentially afflicting the electronic system governing the gas pedal, problems that Toyota and the highway safety agency have so far dismissed. (huffpost, 1/22/12) I am not a sue person, but I think Toyota should be held accountable for this flaw. This was a terrifying, horrible, unnecessary crash. I don't know when/if I'll get the courage to go behind the wheel again. It replays over and over in my mind. The terror is immense.

The air bags did not deploy in accident.
Airbags fail to deploy in an accident . At a intersection in san diego,CA.
I, robert, was sitting in the car when my wife came out of the store and got into it. I put my foot on the brake and started the car. It took off at a very high rate of speed. The car lunged ahead and steadily picked up speed. The car hit a lady walking with her groceries, then hit a parked vehicle and pushed it into another vehicle. The air bag never deployed. The brakes would not work. The only thing that made it stop was that it hit a large SUV. My wife did not have time to fasten her seat belt, thus sustaining injuries. It all happened in a matter of seconds. There was a police report filed. I was not charged with the accident. I purchased the vehicle on may 24, 2017 at a public auction in washington, DC. That means that these vehicles are still being sold as if there is not a problem with them. The vehicle had about 240,000 miles when I purchased it. When we checked the internet, we found that there were hundreds of complaints. Beware!!!.
Pulling into a disabled retail parking space at very low speed, car lurched forward and hit the metal parking pole, damaging the front bumper and hood. Eyewitness to collision incident confirms this. Car was barely in motion and my foot was on the brake. I received whiplash requiring medical attention and injury to my right knee. Automotive repair company states impact was so severe that frame was bent, resulting in the insurance company declaring vehicle a total loss. However, the air bag never deployed even though the bumper damage occurred right at the air bag location on driver side. Toyota solara air bag should have deployed. The sudden lurch forward should not have occurred since my foot was on the brake at the time and barely moving. Pictures available. Police report not possible as they do not come to private parking property. Vehicle still drivable, so it was taken to Toyota-approved auto repair shop.
